Dwyane Wade May Need Surgery, Could Miss Olympics

After battling knee pain throughout the Playoffs, Dwyane Wade may be forced to miss the Olympics this summer. Depending on upcoming MRI results, Wade admitted to the Associated Press that he may need surgery or rehab on his left knee. If the two-time NBA Champ decides to play for Team USA, he’ll have very little rest, as training camp opens July 6: “Dwyane Wade played with knee pain throughout the playoffs. He’ll soon know exactly what was causing that problem, and if it could keep him out of the London Olympics. One day after celebrating his second NBA championship, the Miami Heat guard told The Associated Press on Friday that he will soon have his ailing left knee examined, and acknowledges that surgery may be a possibility. Wade appeared in all 23 postseason games for Miami, averaging 22.8 points, and scored 20 in the title-clinching win for the Heat against Oklahoma City on Thursday night. ‘I’ve got to make a decision on what my knee needs and what’s best, because my career and finishing my career strong is what’s important to me,’ Wade said. ‘And I know, yeah, the Olympics are coming up. It’s something I really want to do. But at the same time, if I have to make a big decision, if something has to happen surgery-wise, that will have to be a step I have to take. My loyalty and my commitment to Miami Heat basketball is the No. 1 thing.’ An MRI exam will likely take place in the next few days. Wade had the knee drained during Miami’s second-round series against Indiana. ‘From my small conversations with the doctor at that time, I think some kind of cleanup process might have to go on,’ Wade said. ‘And when that happens, from our previous experiences, it takes a while to recover. So I want to make sure that I want to recover strong and not like I did the last knee surgery that I had.’”

I want Wade to compete in the Olympics because last time he did, he lead the league in scoring, as well as average more assists and rebounds than LeBron despite being shorter and coming off an injury. But at the same time, it will benefit Miami’s future if he heals well and not participate. If he doesn’t participate, then it could open up a slot for Anthony Davis.

He should go to Germany and get that surgery that Kobe and A-Rod both got. Seems to be working for them.

  • Jake

    He needs that Kobe surgery.

It was pretty clear he was not anywhere near 100% this post season. Which is scary considering they won a title.

I hope he decides to rest up, get healthy, and work on his jumper, i don’t think i saw him take as many three’s as he did the last two season, part of it was because he worked on the post game a bit, but with alot of the falls he’s taken, he should focus on the J more

Ooh. This could mean we could put a lineup on the floor that includes Durant, Melo, LeBron. Best SFs in the game at once. ::shudders::

Didn’t wade alreay said he wasn’t going to participate in the Olympics? This is lame news to me and whoevere reported it should use this google thing and look that story up. He wasn’t going to go and now it’s news. He had already said that his health was priority number one and that the OG weren’t in his plans.

so tru NBK, in no way shape or form did Wade seem like he was 100% ever in the playoffs…if Wade gets back to those outstanding performance years he had in the past, watch out world the Miami Heat surely will only be just starting their reign.

1)I want Dwyane Wade to be healthy for the 2012 USA Men’s Basketball Team in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London as,”Quest For Gold ?”.

2)No way for Dwyane Wade to miss the entire 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
