Dwyane Wade on Last-Second Miss: ‘It Didn’t Want to Go in’

Dwyane Wade’s attempt to win Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals at the buzzer in overtime last night cruelly danced off the rim, and Wade said afterward that he couldn’t have asked for a better look. From the Boston Globe: “While Wade’s leadership and sacrifice during the last two seasons cannot be questioned, he was unable to revert to his ‘Flash’ days offensively. He finished 16 for 42 shooting in the two games at TD Garden, getting off to painfully slow starts. On Sunday night, he missed 9 of 11 shots in the first half, but responded with 9 third-quarter points as the Heat’s defense stifled the Celtics and rallied from an 18-point deficit. But when it really counted, when the Heat could have stolen the game and headed home to potentially close out the Celtics, Wade was 1 for 5 with a lone 3-pointer in his final 17 minutes. He could have compensated for his inconsistency with that winning 3-pointer, but his cleanest look of the night meant little. ‘Yeah, a good look, on line, it didn’t want to go in,’ he said. ‘Couldn’t ask for a better look, got the shot off I wanted from the standpoint of how we ran it. They took away our first option and then I tried to make a one-on-one play and got a good shot. Yeah, it was on line,’ he repeated. ‘That’s all you can ask for. I got my legs under me a little bit. It just decided it didn’t want to go in tonight.’ [...] He wanted the chance to be the hero. He waved off Mario Chalmers, who has been a thorn in the Celtics’ side. ‘I felt like I got a lot of good shots,’ Wade said. ‘I got a lot of good looks, way better than last game. I felt a lot [more] comfortable, Coach did a good job, I got the ball in certain areas. It’s a 50-50 shot when they go up. They don’t always go in, but I’ll shoot them again.’”

Seriously,am I the only one who thought this was a good opportunity and certainly better than any ‘pass to Mario Chalmers’ play proposed by some journalists?I’d say you always go for the win when on the road and Wade had an open look for three.Open look for one of the best basketball player ever=good shot and certainly better than any Chalmers/Haslem what so ever shot.

    it was pretty close

I’d rather have DWade shoot that shot than LeBron.

  • dsleepy

dwade really hasn’t been himself lately.

Lebron is horribl at LAST second shots, but I think anyone can agree he is pretty damn good at anything before that.

    AT33 why?

  • What

I’d rather have ray shoot it. go celts

  • Zabba

I’m gonna be the first one to say…”that’s what she said!”

  • Fat Lever

I heard the real reason is that Lebron did a Jedi Mind Trick on the ball, and forced it’s trajectory off by 2.5 degrees, leading to the miss. Because, you know, he’s an alien.

  • Zabba

Him being an alien is more believable than him hoping his teammate misses the game winning shot while he’s chilling at the bench. Moron.

  • Fat Lever

Zabba, not sure if that was meant for me or what, but ok.

So Zabba, you’d believe that Lebron is from another planet, before you’d believe that he’d wish ill will towards his teammate to make himself look good?

I don’t know why Miami don’t always go to Wade at the end of games. LBJ is undoubtedly the biggest mismatch on the floor at any given time but Spo’s gotta use him to create set shots for Wade. Not iso LBJ and force him to make a decision. Wade’s got a ridiculous shot fake as JVG puts it and he ain’t wrong about that. What I’m more worried about for the Celts is that despite Wade’s cold shooting in first half of games and no Bosh, Miami finally came close to almost nabbing away the win. Once Bosh comes back, if he’s not rusty and knocks down the midranger with enough consistency, trapping Wade is gonna be hell for them and hopefully, that’ll kickstart him again.

Say what you want about Lebron in the past, he’s really stepped up in 4th quarters in the playoffs. He did hit that game tying 3 late to help send it to overtime. The way Wade is playing, I’m giving Lebron the ball at the end of the game all day. And this coming from a “hater”.

watch the replay at the end of regulation. LBJ had Battier wide open in the corner…but went to haslem. Which I feel would have been a good accurate pass, aside from the fact that MP? came over and hit the ball…so it didnt get there on time…which allowed KG to close out effectively. Even with the millions of ppl saying LBJ isnt clutch…Id prefer for him to hit the wide open man when he is triple teamed. As far as Wade and his hot. Its do difficult to say this is what he should have done…especially after we get to watch the replay 15 times. I as in a similar situation a few weeks back…I could have drawn the foul, cuz the defender jumped, I could have passed it to my wide open man in the corner (didnt see him) so I threw up some junk that grazed the rim and we went to overtime. Bottom line is woulda, shoulda, coulda. Didnt happen, next game!
