Hornets to Trade Emeka Okafor, Trevor Ariza?

Hornets GM Dell Demps told the Times Picayune that he’d be open to trading either Emeka Okafor or Trevor Ariza, along with the Hornets’ 10th pick, to dump salary and possibly pursue veteran free agents: “Although the upcoming NBA draft is deep in talent, Hornets General Manager Dell Demps hasn’t ruled out the possibility of trading the team’s second lottery pick. ‘Yes, we will if it makes sense,’’ said Demps. The Hornets have the 10th pick in the draft June 28, as well as the No. 1 overall selection, which the team is expected use on Kentucky power forward Anthony Davis. ‘There’s been some teams that have put young guys around a top pick,’ Demps said. ‘Some of the other teams have put veterans around the pick. Some have been successful both ways. I think we’re just going to look at what is best for our situation.’ To improve the roster around Davis, the Hornets could try to explore a deal that would include trading either center Emeka Okafor or small forward Trevor Ariza, along with the 10th pick. That would clear salary cap space to possibly pursue more veteran help in free agency.”

As a Warriors fan I think Trevor Ariza would be a great fit in the Golden State.

  • Bravo

    Bad trade

  • mac

gotta think the jazz will try to get in on that. wonder if anything will go down.

PLEASE DONT TRADE OKAFOR AND ARIZA! TRADE KAMAN PLEASE! Davis NEEDS young guys to keep up with him, wether that’s Damian Lillard, Terrence Ross, etc. Please don’t trade the 10th pick.

kaman or okafor has to go. kendall marshall at 10 is interesting

  • D Michael

Bynum for Ariza and Okafor. The Lakers would be back in the hunt.

I think they should trade UP in the draft. Give up the #10 and whomever in order to get an even better pick. They need to rebuild with guys who can contribute immediately, and Gordon is probably thinking of going elsewhere.

  • Mack

they should trade Kaman if anyone, Okafor’s a lot tougher and stronger to help Davis in the paint next season. Also Ariza is a great defender and decent scorer on occasion so why not keep him?

Let me guess… Trevor Ariza + 10th pick back to the Wolves for Derrick Williams? Makes too much sense, doesn’t it? How’s a front court of DERRICK WILLIAMS (SF), ANTHONY DAVIS (PF), and CHRIS KAMAN (C) sound with ERIC GORDON at the 2 and a free agent PG acquisition after using the amnesty on OKAFOR? Make it happen, Demps and Kahn.

  • Matt Park

    Same thing every thread…

Kaman is a free agent; he can’t be traded. Gordon is a restricted free agent and the Hornets want to retain him no matter what (up to a max deal). The Hornets need cap space and a good young core in place to sign a big free agent.

I dont care where okafur goes but brooklyn needs to go get ariza. ariza is a hard-nose player who would is an above average defender. deron will, dwight howard, and ariza would make up 3 of 5 starters for bk.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

Okafor, Ariza, and #1 overall for Dwight Howard and Chris Duhon.

  • bdogg

i do not care what la has to do…i want ariza back in the p&G! add dwhoward or kg with ariza and of course the mamba and we are cool!

after this celtics need to put in an offer to eg

  • Drig

@bdogg….nope. I say try to get Iggy+Hawes for Pau and get back Odom. KG would be the icing on the cake. Pipe dream?? I’ve seen worse trades happen. ( Yeah, stern. I’m looking at you. And lots of others will too once EG bails. )

  • Yesse

    Ariza back to LA.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

U can’t get much for Okafor or Ariza. Idk who they would trade them for, realistically.

Caboose, that would be a good trade if Dwight would sign an extension with NOLA

  • bonk

@ caboose that’s a horrible trade. Howard would never sign there so stop dreaming

  • blackthought

trade kaman and the 10th pick to get some young talent, or a better draft pick..

  • Benjamin Epstein

okafor for josh smith! hawks need a center desperately to move Horford to pf and move on from early playoff bust

  • Benjamin Epstein

plus Atlanta is okafor’s home town!

  • http://slamonline.com Mars

Smart move. But it better be for Dwight Howard cause I love Davis, but the rail thin beast is not convincing me that he can bang in the NBA. I hate to say it but looking like 2007 draft where Durant got slept on for Oden. Please dont sleep on Robinson or MKG.

Ariza would be a great addition (for PHX) if Grant Hill is retiring (do we know on that yet?) at that 2-4 spot. What does PHX have though to offer…?
The Suns NEED STAR POWER if they think Nash is staying on. With Gortat strong, Morris playing really well in his rookie season and Dudley showing a constant effort now, it would be great to see the Suns add someone (or two) without giving up anyone.
A starting PF or SF at that 2nd 3rd tier level is ideal… I don’t know if thats Ariza but it’s close….

  • haslem

if they’re smart they’ll trade okafor and ariza for 50 cents on the dollar and cash in on another top five draft pick next year. Davis, Gordon, Lillard, and a top five pick next year is a good foundation to build on. They shouldn’t be trying to make the playoffs this season.

Nbk and eboy enjoy airport shiistalls together…….in a disgustingly sexual manner

I am a fan of Pau Gasol, but LA’s salary situation means he’s probably going to be shipped out. What would be the best fit for Pau? Perhaps LA could get some high picks for Pau in order to get young role players who can serve as decent contributors?

  • Bobitto

Good luck trading both of them. Both have underperformed since coming to new orleans and have a few years left each on a contract. If they could trade okafor then they’d seriously make some cap space.

Great Additions For Washington, You Get Size In Emeka Okafor, Then According http://www.nbadraft.net They Might End Up Getting DC’s Very Own Thomas Robinson From Kansas, Remember They Have Nene If He Can Remain Healthy And Wall, Crawford, Blatche, Etc. The Future Is Very Bright For Washington Wizards
