LeBron James, Miami Heat Even Up NBA Finals With Game 2 Win

by Marcel Mutoni @marcel_mutoni

We have one hell of a championship round on our hands, as the NBA Finals now shift to Miami for three consecutive tilts, following the Heat’s big Game 2 win last night.

LeBron James (32 points, 8 boards, 5 assists) received the help he so desperately needed from Dwyane Wade and others, and in the end, James got the best of Kevin Durant at crunch time.

Per the Miami Herald:

“We wanted to split,” James said. “Game 2, we wanted to come out and get a win. We didn’t want to go back home down two.” While his offense shaped the game early, his defense saved it in the end. He provided desperate defense against Kevin Durant in the closing seconds, forcing the young offensive maven to miss from seven feet with a chance to tie the game. James was 10 of 22 from the field and 12 of 12 from the free-throw line. “I just wanted to put a body on him,” James said.

“We had a chance, man. It’s tough,” said Durant, who had 16 points in the fourth quarter. “It’s tough to lose that way. I was open and I missed the shot.” [...] Dwyane Wade, critiqued for looking a little past his prime in Game 1, responded with 24 points, including 13 in the first half. Wade was 10 of 20 from the field to go along with six rebounds and five assists. He was 4 of 6 from the free-throw line. “Just know that I’m always going to keep coming back until I can’t play this game no more,” Wade said. “I had more opportunities than Game 1 and I was able to attack it.”

This was the OKC Thunder’s first Playoff loss at home this year, and now they must prove their mettle on the road. Even more importantly, the Thunder will need to get off to a better start in Game 3.

The first two games between Miami and OKC have provided thrilling finishes. Here’s to hoping this theme continues as we move forward in these NBA Finals.

As someone who cant stand the Miami heat, I’m beginning to get a really bad feeling about this series…

  • WEASAL

the thunder got SCREWED by the refs in a major way stern’s not even trying to make it look fair

  • AD

Lebron might just be to much for the thunder….. Wannabe skips and stephen a smiths will say westbrook cost the thunder the game, but you still have to defend!

  • http://nba.com GP23

    Heat in 5

  • wp

the refffing in that game was so bad, durant got fouled by lebron so hard on that last play, refs are on bath salts or something

  • T-Money

the refs swallowed their whistle on kd’s last shot but they also swallowed their whistle on what should have been his 6th foul with 3 mins to go – dude just ran over battier and they gave him 2 fts.

  • LMurray

T-Money hit the nail on the head, that should have been his 6th foul, it was either a no call or a charge, yet they hit battier with the blocking call, but Heat haters have amnesia

  • WEASAL

Thunder played their worst basketball this year last night in the first 3 quarters and only lost by four (shoulda won in OT but Lebron can do anything without getting called ) f*ck you stern. Thunder in seven

  • Heals

LBJ misses a 3, KD comes down and HITS his baseline floater and all the noise from Gm1 gets louder. LBJ missed his 3, KD missed the floater, LBJ hits his FT’s so it’s all irrelevant, but I just find it funny watching these games and seeing all the possible plays (of course none in the first 3 1/2 quarters though cause I guess those plays don’t count for the armchair analysts) people could overreact to given just slightly different outcomes. KD hits that floater and all we hear all-day are Mamba comparisons and how Bron once again blew it. It’s just crazy, LBJ’s Gm6 (in Bos) was a week ago and already the talking heads seem to have forgotten…

  • spurs4life

LBJ is looking real scary right now

    Spurs in 7

  • tpathi1

thank you! they put LBJ on KD early and often this game..KD will not have tremendous starts if Lebron guards him throughout the game, with that being said..@Heals..KD I think is really making Kobe and LBJ look like playoff youngins the way he ballin out, especially in the fourth..man it is hard to root against KD when he shows up ALL the time in the fourth..he played aggressive in the fourth even with 5 fouls…he is one mentally tough ball player…regardless of the outcome of the game that man is ridiculous!

  • R32

If it wasn’t for the refs, KD could’ve easily been called for a charge on Battier (his 6th foul)! He was lucky to even be in a position to bring his team back.

Side note: Harden’s flopping skills are at an all time high. Good job refs for not calling that ish!

  • nick

THANK YOU tpathi1, best unbiased comment i’ve read on this site thus far.

  • Sean B

LBJ has reached that level… where he is coming up big in every must win game the Heat need. Here’s the stat I love… in the last 3 series… with his team trailing and playing a critical game on the road, LeBron is averaging 39 Pts/14 rebs a game. 39-14!!! If the Heat don’t get it done this year… LeBron will continue to get killed in the media, but it will be undeserved.

  • Da-Meat-Hook

@ tpathi1, “KD I think is really making Kobe and LBJ look like playoff youngins the way he ballin out, especially in the fourth..”

Tell me, how did Bron’s bank taste???

  • Coggie13

@weasal your a joke. One play doesn’t define it. I am sure Stern is to blame for the thunder falling behind 18-2 I’m sure Lebron getting blocked by Ibaka which was more of a foul than what lebron did to KD would be called if it wss rigged. You are a disgrace to the righeous sports fan.

  • tpathi1

@Da-Meat_hook, i got madd love and respect for Lebrons game..hell im rooting for him this series..and i was more happy wit that bank than you! But lets be real here…KD has been showing over and over and over his abilities in the fourth quarter throughout these playoffs. haha that statement about ‘playoff youngis’ was thought of before last night!! i thought it was still appropriate, but your right..gotta give Lebron his dues..he came up HUGE…especially wit the free throws (0 misses, who woulda thought that? I wonder if that was a prop bet in vegas, and if anyone cashed out bigtime wit that one), and the bank shot…im not tryin to be overly analytical on LBJ (since everyone else is), but I’m not a ‘fan’ of that three pointer he took with 14 seconds left

  • http://www.slamonline.com/online/nba ti-sizzle

Lebron played huge, Wade played big, and Bosh was good in the first half. Reminds me of the Heat introduction concert when they were first united. The announcer proclaimed that it was “Lebron’s kingdom, Wade’s house, and Bosh’s PIT!!” really a testament to how important they each are. LOL Bosh’s pit…

  • JML-G

suuuure Stern is to blame, lockout is to blame, refs is to blame, fucking moon and the stars is to blame.. just face it – Heat will win the championship, so ya can eat your hearts out ;)

  • T-Money

lbj can’t get in foul trouble tho… mad props to battier for hitting all those 3s but he’s getting cooked by kd.

  • Da-Meat-Hook

@ tpathi1 , i’m just playin. I too, was not a fan of him dribbling the last 15 seconds of the shot clock down only to settle for that contested 3.

  • bike

Great win for LeBron and co. I hope they do realize by now that no matter how big a lead they get on OKC, they can erase it in a heartbeat. SPO need to call a timeout as soon as OKC starts one of those runs. KD’s shot is insane and Westbrooks quickness is off the charts. Play smart MIA and don’t turn the ball over and this could be yours.

  • T-Money

i’ve been defending westbrook for a minute but i think i’ve reached a breaking point. you can’t take more shots than the best scorer in the world in two consecutive finals game. you just can’t. brooks also need to realize that perks serves no purpose in this series – his biggest attribute is individual post defense and that’s not needed vs miami.

  • Fat Lever

I don’t want to hear any sh!t about the refereeing being biased last night. They let these guys play, and only called blatantly obvious calls. People always get mad at ref’s for making themselves part of the game by upstaging it. Last night they did what they should have, let the players decide. And they still get killed? It’s ironic really. Ref’s can have a direct say in who wins and loses a game, but they never win because it’s d@mned if you do, d@mned if you don’t.

  • http://slamonline.com AlbertBarr

co-sign fat lever. That game was officiated pretty damn good considering.

  • tpathi1

@Fat Lever..the refs let the players play..but if you breathed on james harden in the first half it was a foul..if KD or LBJ aren’t getting to the stripe, then in no way shape or form should a bench player get there..Harden kept them in the game the first quarter..and i’m not knockin his shooting, but for some reason of all players HE was going to the line!

  • http://slamonline.com Datkid

cosign T-money and Fat lever. KD honestly shouldn’t have been in there anyway.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=rwDluFZQmtQ Max

The key in the next 3 road games will be OKC’s start.
On the road it’s way harder to come back than at home.

  • http://bulls.com airs

    chicago will hate me but…
    go…mi….ami?!?
    DAH!LEBRONSTOOGOOD

  • LA Huey

The game was officiated very well. .001% of the world cried for a foul on KD’s last shot in real-time. It wasn’t until the replay that anyone suspected anything. Hell, it might have been a veteran move on LeBron’s part knowing the baseline ref had an AWFUL angle to call that.

  • http://www.soundcloud.com/tray-5 T-Ray

Lmao @airs people see what they wanna see. So LeBron fouled KD but KD didn’t run over Battier? Ahh makes since

  • T-Money

harden is really hard to officiate. when he drives to the hoop, he puts the ball low and really far away from his body so that his natural upward motion when going for a shot immediately creates contact.

  • LA Huey

Cole did a solid job off the bench. He picked up a charge going at Collison but his energy saved a couple turnovers for the Heat and he did the Keyon Dooling thing where he pressured the ball down the court to shave about 5-6 seconds off the shot clock. Not sure why more back-up PGs don’t do this.

  • tpathi1

Harden has like three attack moves to the hoop..the euro step…the move T-Money is talking about..and then going in an exact straight line thru the defender (who for some reason always get called for a foul when he does this)…he either finishes or flops and gets to the line

  • Ldub

I didnt think Battier could do it again, but he did. Glad he did too. Everyone stepped up. Chalmers had solid D, drawing a few charges. LJ and Wade played the way they were supposed to. Loved the assertiveness from Wade on both ends of the floor. Harden played his *&% off! Game wouldnt have been as close if it wasnt for him. IMO Russ shot too much…I know he ended with 20 something points, but he made 2 less shots than KD and shot 3 more times. Everyone knows hes a shoot first pg, and Im not knocking him for that. But KD had it going…feed the hot hand. As far as KD…..one word “WOW”! You would think, that at such a young age, he would fold under pressure. You could see how bad this kid wants to win. If they Heat dont pull this out…I wont even be made because Durant is the definition of what a basketball player should be. Kudos to both teams…LETS GO HEAT!

  • Ldub

@tpathi1—-wouldnt you love to guard Harden? Think about this…even if you know the move is coming…its still very difficult to defend. Now times that by 3…you dont know which move is coming and you have to defend him. He is solid, strong, deceptively quick and can shoot from anywhere on the court. He’s kinda like Paul Pierce. Either way…dude knows how to get the calls. Cant be mad at him for it. I would say to shave the beard though.

  • R32

Refs saved KD from picking up his 6th foul on the blocking call on Battier.

Harden’s flopping is ridiculous, glad the refs aren’t calling that! On that spin move LBJ put on him (barely any contact), he went down like a ton of bricks lol

  • trueballer4life

its over HEAT IN 5!– OKC was dw all gm , KD SAID IT HIMSELF I MISSED THE SHOT MAN!..,AN THATS IT…..

  • tpathi1

Ldub..Harden is a sick ball player..he does everything plus his defense is a little underrated. I do disagree with you on one thing..you said “dude knows how to get the calls. Can’t be mad at him for it” – well frankly..i am mad at him for it! the flopping is just outta control for my taste..i really want my team the chicago bulls to make a run at him..but i know that d rose is not gonna respect his game if he keeps doing that…hell i dont think thibs will cosign him playing like that either..he too good for the theatrics! Its one things to flop and get calls, but then its another when you flop and go along with it by staring down the ref and politicing with them. KD gets calls, but you hardly see him complain. The flopping is annoying but then the ‘entitlement’ he shows afterwards drives me over the edge sometimes…with all that being said i guess if he was on my team and were are in the finals i would never say one negative thing about it

  • davidR

t-money, perk is great at setting (illegal) picks for westbrook, harden, or durant.
    that’s about it though

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=rwDluFZQmtQ Max

Ldub, Harden should never EVER shave his beard!
How dare you say something like that!

  • LA Huey

A few flops in this game weren’t called. I was glad to see that.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

What’s up guys who have no life and spend time posting on a basketball website

  • davidR

    wattup

  • Ldub

tpath…Certain players do it…others just get up and go. I dont think Durant considers himself a superstar, no matter how much ppl tell him he is. He is another guy on the court that knows he can play, and knows he can score, but still tries to get better. He doesnt trash talk, he doesnt throw up 3 fingers when he hits a shot…he simply plays the game at a high level. Difference is, even though they are around the same age…Durant is much more mature (on the court). Idk about off. But he knows the little antics wont win the game, but hard work and dedication will. You see some of Miami’s players talking to the refs when they feel they were fouled…it creates opportunities for a mismatch. A few years ago I would talk to the refs or lay on the ground when I was fouled (with no call) and look up and the other team is scoring. Well I erased that mentality. No matter how much you complain to the refs, they arent going to switch the call so you can get you free throws.

  • Ldub

Harden fits into any system..because he doesnt need alot of minutes to be effective. He shoots a good %, plays d and is very unselfish. He doesnt force alot of things and if he does, its to get a foul. I dont think he flops too often…not when youve been watching players like pau, battier and chalmers. lol…Id definitely pick him up on my squad

  • AQWORD

Good win for da Heat. Gain confidence while shattering some egos + gaining homecourt adv. Lets bring it home now. Go Miami!!

Fake nbk, how about you, who spends his time impersonating guys on a basketball website?

  • Ldub

MAX…it looks crazy bro! Trim it or something. He looks like Peter Griffin from the episode where he had birds living in there! I personally dont like it….but it is a hit with the fans…so….so be it i guess.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

That’s the real me. I guess I should stop taunting the trolls huh?

  • tpathi1

Ldub..see thats the thing..when you say he forces the issue in instances to get a foul..to me thats a cop out mentality he shows on the court..it reminds me a lot of chauncey billups..as good as he is..his go to move at the end of the games is to draw a foul before actually making the shot. If thats how a player is going to play ball, i get it, but i dont like it one bit.

  • Lloyd

I don’t think that potential 6th foul on KD was a charge. Battier needs to get into position before KD takes off, not when they make contact with each other. He was still moving into position when KD got in the air, but established positioning by the time KD crashed into him. It was really hard to tell in real time, and Battier always gets that call so it was crazy that the refs picked that up. This is all from what I rmb seeing, but if someone wants to post the video to prove me wrong please do. I couldn’t find it on youtube.

  • LA Huey

    Harden’s beard :: Samson’s hair

  • Ldub

Well here is the thing T….can i call u T? ok good…so T….here is the thing….If you know that youre an above average foul shooter…what is the point of practicing (ala AI) foul shots if youre not going to take advantage of them in the game? Now with that being said..let me give you my point…I never worked on my game of how to draw a foul…if it happens it happens. A buddy of mine said L..get to the line youre a good free throw shooter, but you only take 2 a game. He said not only do you get free buckets, but you also get the opposing team in foul trouble, which changes their mindset or strategy. In return you have all the advantages. You can be more aggressive, and it will be easier to score because they dont want to keep fouling you. Aside from the floppin…if you can create contact and get the call then you are a mastermind. This is when good turns you into great. Look at Kobe, Ginobli, CP3, Pierce, Wade, James…all these cats draw the foul with the best of them. Take the FTs away and they are averaging 20ppg. Thats how you get to 30ppg and become and elite scorer brother.

  • Ldub

LOL LA HUEY….he was ballin the same when he didnt have the beard. Maybe we all should just fear it….fear the beard. He kinda looks homeless too. I wonder if Westbrooks shot got lost in there? ha!

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

My troll spends more time commenting as me then i do.

  • Ldub

Lloyd….Battier was still moving, and you are correct he did slide under KD (after) he jumped. You gotta give the person a chance to land. However, even if he was moving slightly…had KD not jumped when he did…it would have been a charge. Im surprised the refs picked it up…it was hard to see in slo mo

  • 23

Ldub, i think what T is trying to say is that… there is a difference between drawing contact and faking, or dramatizing a foul. harden is good at getting to the line yes. but whats gonna happen after this summer when the nba looks at flopping. maybe harden stops getting those calls, and starts costing his team fast break points by not getting back on d? lebron spun away from harden in the 4th, and harden fell down. which left lebron open, which made collison have to leave bosh to cover lebron, which led to an easy assist from bron to bosh in a CRUCIAL moment of the game. its not just that harden draws fouls on the offensive end, but he flops a good amount while he plays d as well. when harden was entering the draft, i remember hearing alot of comparisons to ginobili as far as being a “crafty left handed player” who keeps his defender off balance and can knock down the open shot. well it appears he had more in common with ginobili than just that….

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

12:45, that was fake nbk. Your horrible grammar gave it away.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

    Hi everybody.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

So Lakesh…..I mean the troll nbk, is kind of funnier than the real one. Sorry Soop, but it’s true. Hey, did the Heat play last night?

  • Lloyd

Ldub yea my comment was towards people saying that the no-call on the last play was justified due to the refs not calling that “charge” on Durant. It was BS still.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

The Heat will leave Miami up 3-2 after Game 5. You can bet your as*es Bron will bring a Game 6 Celtics-like performance in Game 6 or Game 7 in OKC to bring his first ring and give ALL basketball fans an incredibly entertaining Finals a fitting close. The script can’t be written any better…not even by the Sternbot.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Naw that fool just be taking credit for my 1980s Eddie Murphy like sense of humor.

Troll nbk could also be Tarzan..

  • tpathi1

23 thank you thats pretty much what i was tryin to say..harden admitted in in the pregame before game 5 against the spurs that he studied ginobli’s game..he said he studied his foot work, his shot, he failed to mention the flopping lol. their games really do mirror one anothers..but i think ginobli would throw it down more often in games (harden can fly too)..and as for this summer when the nba looks at flopping…i thought they been changed this rule..i thought you were supposed to get a tech for ‘tricking the refs’ and that was set in place like 2-3 years ago..obviously the refs never used this rule..nor did they bother giving players techs after the fact thru video tape evidence

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

12:45 was real nbk. Who is commenting from his phone in a billing meeting. Grammar is not a priority lol

  • http://www.sportsgrid.com/media/shaq-kobe-highlights/ shutup

That no call on battier was the same call the Thunder got all series long against the Spurs, Collison and Harden do that a lot, the slide under the air-borne defender. How great was it to see Harden flop and try to get the call, then have Chalmers flop and get the call, that had to be like my favorite play of the game. Durant didn’t get anymore fouled than Lebron did a couple of drives he didnt get the call, quit the conspiracy theory ish. Its kinda sad though, Lebron stepped up big and nailed those two high pressure free throws and Durant missed a game winner, but you don’t see any Durant choked comments.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

    Nice try max but no

  • tpathi1

mario chalmers might just have the best job in the entire nba..starting pg for a stacked team..he plays with Lebron and Wade..he will never receive the blame for a loss…it seems that he takes a verbal beating sometimes from wade bosh and bron and he doesnt get paid like them..but hey the pressure to perform is never really him, and more than likely he will be the receipient of some rings so long as he keeps ‘the best job in the nba’

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=rwDluFZQmtQ Max

shutup, that’s because KD didn’t really choke..

  • Ldub

Lloyd…i was agreeing with you @23 I was also agreeing with T…yet making my own point on the side. I dont think that Harden flops and then doesnt get back on D…granted I havent watched many thunder games this year…but if thats the case then I can see the problem. But if he is getting legit fouls because of his style of play and ability to draw a foul then let it be. Obviously he isnt going to get every call, but why change up a style of play if its working. I understand it may cause an issue if the refs/league considers it to be flopping. But from what I gathered (if it comes to a point of review)..it was based on the defensive end. I could be wrong and probably am, but we shall see. I do think the PP driving to the basket throwing your head back is out of control. I dont see harden doing this, where it would be called flopping. But if i am wrong…someone please correct me.

  • Ldub

agreed with tpath…hes like a poor mans rondo

  • http://www.sportsgrid.com/media/shaq-kobe-highlights/ shutup

I wasnt saying that he did, but if it was Lebron in the same situation the word choke would be a trending topic. @ldub Harden does the head whip as well as 32 other flavors of flopping, The Derrick Rose head-whip, the Vujacic phantom contact, The Battier slide under, The Kobe leg kick, The Ginobili over exaggeration while ball handling, The ben wallace dude just hit me with a brick shtick. the list goes on but you name it Harden will flop it.

  • Ldub

There is a difference between choking and not coming through. Durant has been pure beast in the finals. HIS FIRST FINALS! He is shooting a great % and he has been super clutch. 1st game 17 in the 4th qtr alone. And last night…dude went 7 for 7 to pull his team back into the game. Then hit a huge 3 to bring them within 2. This dude doesnt fold under pressure or “choke”. If there is 1 DURANT hater (for a valid reason)…they should shoot themselves. This dude is the definition of basketball.

  • tpathi1

ldub..im pretty sure if the nba players would take a poll at the end of this year on who the biggest floppers are..harden will be there and near the top of the list..him and derrick fisher are definately the two biggest American born floppers in the game..but a lot of the euro players developed this rep too

  • Ldub

Good ish Shutup….gonna have to pay attn to it in game 3…i honestly didnt notice it too much last game. well at all. I saw him come in, hit a 3, hit a jumper, step back jumper, eurostep, leaned forward and drew the foul on Bron…but that was about it. The only flop I did see was when Bron spun and he hit the deck with very minimal contact.

  • Ldub

T…I feel you. But the question is….has this always been a part of the game or did it slowly incorporate itself because a few did it? I remember AI doing this back in the day. But I always felt it was because he was so small, that his body actually reacted that way.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

If I had the drive and determination of that troll, i’d be the head honcho of some big company. Dude literally has no life what-so-ever. Think about it – He is making fun of people who comment on a basketball website… While he is vicariously living through a man who comments on a basketball website…
    The irony is unreal.
Great game by the Heat last night. Really put the gas down and never let off. I’m on with the Russ should rarely have more FGA than KD group. Not to start the first two Finals games for sure anyway.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

So i only saw the first quarter and a half, and the last 4 minutes of the game. anybody wanna explain to me how each team was attacking? who shot more 15+ foot jumpers? those sort of things? if one of you wouldn’t mind :)

  • davidR

ldub, harden is a notorious flopper. it’s pretty ridiculous actually.
go on youtube and search “james harden tyson chandler”
look for the 56 second clip of chandler hitting harden with an elbow

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Lol@ lakeshow thinking I have no life when he spends time watching the Lakers

  • tpathi1

flopping has been part of the game, but never to the extent it has been for the past 10 years. Back in the 80s/90s (Jordan era), if you were even half a ginobli you would probably get your ass whooped by a player sooner or later, coaches wouldn’t tell you to flop either…post jordan era flopping started evolving into the 32 flavors that shutup has indicated in his previous post..the restricted area got stretched out and the rules changed a little bit while athletes only got bigger, faster, stroner…the nba abandoned hand checking as a legit form of defense and introduced zone defense (a la allen iverson) and the artistry of the flop has been revered ever since from coaches and players alike

  • tpathi1

its used as a mechanism to change the refs opinions on the offensive players attacks to the bucket..because in many cases you can’t stop a superior athletic baller if you can’t handcheck, and if the restricted area is so damn far away from the basket..the only thing left is to hit the deck and act like a b**ch…shutup how dare you accuse d rose of being in possession of any of the 32 flavors of flopping??!! take that back!

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

That’s real nbk at 2:05. I really didn’t get to watch the game (hence my opinion on it not being posted like usual). So if someone could give me a non-media’spinned breakdown that would be great.

nbk..durant was plagued with foul trouble throughout the game..as u kno lebron was the primary defender on durant from the get go..he made durant commit a foul against him early..and then d wade made durant pay by giving him a pump fake and then going up for a shot..by the early third quarter durant had 4 fouls. with 10’30” left in the fourth durant picked up his fifth foul..durant was a little out of the game to that point…miami was clickin on all cylinders..battier started the game where he left off the last game by hitting a bunch of threes..lebron was definately in attack mode..and d wade was too..wade got his team involved early and himself..he was getting to the lane quite often on the high pick and roll at the top of the key…Lebron continued his ways…but did one better by hitting all his free throws

  • LA Huey

Durant is the “definition of basketball”? He’s an elite scorer but his individual defense is average. Dude, is a great player but let’s not get carried away.

tpathi, best job in the NBA belongs to Juwan Howard.

Who is the greatest flopper of all time (GFAT)?
    1. Vlade Divac?

    3. Dereck Fisher?
    4. Hedo Turkododo?

  • tpathi1

james harden kept the thunder in it early..the refs were letting them play but harden got to the line in the first half..in the first quarter he scored like 10 points and i think the thunder only had 15 for that quarter..miami answered every time the thunder would make a run..lebron or wade would step up and make big plays and stay aggressive..the half ended with the heat up by more than 12 i think..in the third durant picked up his fourth foul but brooks elected to keep him out there…lebron got into a little bit of foul trouble..after kd got his fourth..they called a quick foul on lebron for his third foul..this made Miami put battier on durant instead of lbj for a little..the thunder went small..perkins was pretty much a non factor this game

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

appreciate it tpathi – so for the most part both teams were attacking and not relying on outside shooting? — How was Westbrook last night, i see he shot the most shots, but from the sound of it that was out of Durant not being able to do what he normally would? And Harden did a whole bunch of nothing after that big 1st quarter? He only had 7 the rest of the game with Durant in foul trouble…what happened there? — If you don’t wanna answer or not sure, no stress. i just don’t have a good feel for what went down after the 1st quarter last night.

    The Heat won…

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Durant is a monster. Dude cannot be stopped. His scoring is crazy.
    NBK
LeBron played bully ball. Only settled for jumpers rarely, regularly took smaller players on the block, and recognized how to attack different matchups. Against Thabo it was post work, Durant it was off the bounce since Durant can’t handle him if he gets a running start. Same with the bigs. Harden played the best defense on Bron, but mainly because Bron didn’t post him up. Serge did ok, too.
Wade got to the rim. Used the high pick and roll and the Heat used rapid ball reversal and an immediate attack against the rotating defense to get their early lead. The reason the game got close was because they went away from that style. The Thunder are not a great defensive team when you make them execute multiple contests and switches. They aren’t cerebral on defense outside of Fisher.
Bosh was crazy active. His activity on both ends was the most important factor in the game. he crashed the boards like crazy, hustled and was aggressive on offense looking for his shot. He missed some bunnies and couldn’t catch some easy passes or he would have approached 20/20.
Battier and Chalmers hit shots and played great defense and Cole gave them great energy. miller and james jones were active too. Very complete game and we didn’t even see Joel Anthony.
Durant, as I said, was a total and complete monster once he wasn’t in foul trouble. Honestly, no one can guard him. LeBron does the best job, but as someone said, he can’t guard Durant and Westbrook and Wade has not shown an ability to guard Westbrook. Durant hits every shot in the book and has no fear. It’s awesome to watch.
Westbrook played fairly well in my opinion. He took mostly smart shots, made good passes and was aggressive. People are blamining him but he kept the HEat on their heels.
Harden is a master foul drawer. He uses that same extended arms move Pierce and Vince Carter perfected years ago and it’s great. And he flops like crazy on defense.
Ibaka is a terror. He is always lurking and he had the Heat thinking early. Unfortunately, the Thunder’s best defensive lineup includes Perk, Ibaka and Thabo and that allows Miami to rest on defense. I would expect Perk to get fewer minutes and Thabo and Harden to be paired together more.
It was a great game. The big Miami lead never felt safe because OKC’s crowd wills them to success. The energy was palpable even through the television. I think OKC is the team to beat still in this series because they never get rattled or lose confidence.

  • tpathi1

westbrook once again stayed aggressive…he shot more than durant but didnt shoot at a good clip ….battier stayed hot in the third by hitting another three i think and taking it to the bucket with his floaters…mario chalmers played decent and stayed aggressive…the thunder hung in it tho..i think they won the third quarter by 1 point or so..

  • LA Huey

Heat started to chuck jumpers toward the end of the 3rd and for a lot of the 4th. They got back to their bread and butter just in time. Heat did a great job of getting back on defense and putting bodies in front of Westbrook and daring him to shoot his pull-up jumper. It was the same shot he was killing the Lakers with but just wouldn’t fall. Ibaka got a bunch of blocks all at the expense of the Big 3. But then they started realizing that he’s a young shot blocker and just started pump-faking the hell out of him or sending Bosh 18 ft out to the baseline.

  • tpathi1

what allen p says sums it up…kevin durant had 5 fouls with 10 minutes in the fourth quarter and still dropped 16 points..if he goes on like this you might have to put kevin durants name in the dictionary as the definition of ‘clutch’

  • http://www.nba.com/heat/history/mia_v_sea.html Feez_22

the thing is… westbrook is going to have more field goal attempts than durant next game 2. Just following the trend. its just how it is. If i am not mistaken… westbrook has had more field goals than KD in 4 out of the 6 heat/thunder games played since the heat big 3 was put 2gether in 2011-2012. Don’t believe me? Click my name and you can see for yourself (2010-2011-finals 2011-2012 disregarding preseason). Westbrook in these finals however has shot much better v. the heat than he did in the reg season… thats odd huh? 40% in the finals, 31% in the reg season (2011-2012) v. the heat. Westbrook has the ball the majority of the time and is the guy that is supposed to set the thunder offense… yet he usually drives and reacts most of the time. he never has a plan on a play to me… its just read and react like AI. the difference is iverson was a SG and had no scorer next 2 him in philly at least. westbrook has durant yet continues 2 do this. Its nuts though… even though he plays like this he is avg 9 assists to 2 turnovers v. the heat in these finals. thats pretty gr8 but he could avg 12 assists if he wanted to… just pass the ill advised drives on 3 guys to durant and boom assist. i’m not blaming westbrook for this whole game though… i blame durant for playing putrid defense to start. If u look at it… westbrook and harden held it down game 2 while durant was in foul trouble due 2 getting eurostepped on the fastbreak by bosh (really kd) and biting on a wade pumpfake (i mean c-mon). KD needs 2 play better. also, perkins needs to hit inside shots. he was bricking everything jeez. but ya… chances are westbrook outshoots KD again and since its a road game… expect him to shoot sub 35% next game.

  • http://www.nba.com/heat/history/mia_v_sea.html Feez_22

BTW, the thunder should be concerned as lebron hasn’t played one of his “beast” games yet. they should know its coming… lebron has hit 3 jumpers if i’m not mistaken his last 3 games. when he gets that jumper going… OKC will have NOTHING available to stop him. so far he has his driving and post up game going but u best believe… when his jumper starts its useless 2 even try 2 stop it.

  • Ldub

yes he is the definition of basketball. He is a crazy scorer. Has decent defense. Plays the team game. Has a great attitude. Doesnt complain and whine like 90% of the other players. And he will only get better. He has the young drive and hunger…and if one dude really loves the game and has a passion for it…its gotta be KD. This dude doesnt throw his teammates under the bus (no matter how much they under perform)…wants to just play and learn how to get better. This is just my opinion obviously…but KD overall as a player and young man is what the league should look like.

  • http://www.nba.com/heat/history/mia_v_sea.html Feez_22

btw i mean “since the heat were put 2gether in 2010-2011″ sorry for that typo

  • T-Money

allen – durant has been a monster but he is not unguardable. you can still get up on him nad force him to shoot very tough contested jumpers. it’s just that battier doesn’t have the foot speed to keep up with him at all (like with melo in the 1st round). watch closely all of his 4th quarter makes, the vast majority are on battier. with battier on him, he can just get to his soft spots and rise for jumpers without impunity.

  • Ldub

Key to the Heat success is ball/player movement. When Lebron started to iso in the 3rd, that is when the Thunder made there run. Heat players were standing around watching. Even when Wade had it..he wasnt trying to iso anyone. He was coming off Bosh and LbJ screens to get himself an opening or an opening for the others. I think the formula is to get Wade early and often…that way when the 4th qtr comes…the D has to respect him for the drive and shot. His ability to create/finish himself will be key (more so if he has been hitting for the duration of the game) as opposed to trying to “turn it on” at the end. Much more difficult to do.

  • http://www.nba.com/heat/history/mia_v_sea.html Feez_22

btw, KD is the first player since the merger to put up 16+ points in 2 straight finals 4th quarter. the DEFINITION of clutch. not only that… he put up a monster 4th Q versus the spurs in i think game 4 or 5. he’s a beast. heat can’t stop him… just hope 2 contain him. his jumper is on fire as well. he is just a gr8 player… at the end of the day he might be the best scorer the NBA has ever seen.

  • tpathi1

yes, most of durants scoring has been done on battier..its weird cause when you see battier out there guarding kd u want to throw something at the tv cause its no contest..but he is making up for it by making his three pointers on the other end..lebron needs to continue to make life difficult for durant, the heat has the personnel to keep durant in foul trouble throughout the series if durant especially if durant is adamant on guarding lbj

  • blackthought

all heat haters should read dave zirin`s coloum! it`s time 2 hate the thunder (how the owners screw the game, and make a profit outta it)!and lebron gotta take it to the basket!

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    Thank you Allen. –
    .
So in summary, to me, it sounds like, despite the hot start, Harden actually was the most disappointing. (only 4 points in the second half, which means he wasn’t attacking the rim like he did all season in the 4th) – Westbrook does what Westbrook does, he constantly attacks but his shooting is erratic, Durant just put himself in a tough position to be completely aggressive. On the Heat side LeBron dictated much of the offensive rhythm for the Heat, Spoelstra finally got Wade driving lanes from the high P&R, and Bosh looks healthy – also Shane Battier remains an x-factor that is pulling Ibaka away from the hoop. sound about right? — Was Wade healthier looking, or just being put in better spots?

  • LA Huey

Anyone else catch that side-armed bounce pass LBJ fed inside to Wade as he flashed to the 3 pt line? It was gorgeous.

  • IamYOU

Heat will win this sorry haters! and boom goes the dynamite!

  • tpathi1

no nbk..durant was completely aggressive..he is unflappable, it did not matter he had five fouls, he did what he wanted and when he wanted still..and ibaka got like 5 blocks..he was staying in the paint a lot..he even blocked a what was going to be a ferocious dunk from LBJ like two feet above the rim (it was crazy)..he had like four blocks on lebron along i think..but he got overly aggressive..the heat noticed him going for the ball so they killed him with ball fakes and made the easy hi lo pass to bosh for dunks and layups

  • Bill

If KD plays the 1st 3 quarters the way he plays the last they could beat the Heat. He’s like the reverse Lebron James.

  • tpathi1

the fan in me wants to say that this was a defining moment type of game if the heat win..because lebron did everything he gets criticized for..he stepped up in the fourth quarter..he hit a nice bank shot with a little over a minute left..and most importantly he hit all his free throws..and the last two were with 7 seconds left in the game, that put the heat up 4 and thunder couldn’t come back

  • LA Huey

I’ve been thinking that quite a bit, Bill.

  • tpathi1

*if the heat win the whole thing

  • tpathi1

and wade definately looked like he had an extra bounce in his step.

  • http://www.nba.com Redd

The play calling was good. Did u guys not see the refs letting KD stay in the game after Shane got the foul?

  • http://www.nba.com Redd

I hate the Heat but I’d rather Lebron win one before Rose, not KD. Plus Lebron won’t win again.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

The heat got themselves in trouble when they went away from posting up LeBron on the low block. It was especially troubling when he decided not to post up Harden at all in the 4th qtr. It has become a troubling trend for LeBron that he refrains from hitting the low block when the game gets tight instead chooses to go back to his ball-in-hand, dribble for 10 seconds routine. I don’t know whether it is a comfort thing or a lack of supreme confidence in his post game.

  • tpathi1

Redd why would you rather have Lebron win one before Rose?

  • Heals

my bad on the sarcasm real bk…

  • http://bulls.com airs

Maybe someone already pointed this out, but how do the heat NOT attack KD after his fifth foul, particularly lebron??
There were many times where they could have easily switched off a battier screen where bron could have attacked and drawn a 6th on kd.

  • http://bulls.com airs

Id love to see lebron get his ring.
But id HATE to see chalmers get a ring, especially before rose.

  • Heals

My bad on the sarcasm bk, didn’t know “you” were you…

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

They tried to attack KG. They ran a Bron and Battier pick and roll to hopefully get a switch, but OKC stopped switching and had Harden fight over the top. And even when they did switch one time Durant played decent defense and Ibaka came over the top to block Bron at the rim.
Like JT said and I said, Bron has to put Harden on the block just like Thabo. He cannot let them get away with anyone short on him. When the Heat move the ball, they are the best team in basketball. When the ball sticks, they are just all right.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

lmao, no stress heals. i completely understand.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

tpathi, think about it like this though, ibaka had 5 blocks (presumably at the rim) which stops 10 points. Battier had 17. And hit 5 threes. He’s neutralizing Ibaka completely with his shooting.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

so i’m listening to a radio show right now, apparently Harden was upset with the 6 total shots in game 1. It took Derek Fisher and Kendrick Perkins reminding him that it was the NBA finals and personal touches are not what is relevant for him to get over it. That worry anyone?

  • tpathi1

oh yah he was definately neutralized if you look at it like that, what i was just trying to say is that it didnt look like it was his responsbiblity to to run out at the three point shooters or anything, and when he bit on the shot fakes it opened up passing lanes for the heat players to pass and get easy layups..he had 5 blocks, battier had is 17 but ibaka also left his feet like 10 times…5 blocks and then like 5 field goals scored on him from his over agression (if that makes sense)

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

Because Rose is injured & he can’t? I’d rather Lebron win it than KD. KD is younger & Lebron is older. Lebron FINALLY winning it means “wow finally in a shortened season” but KD winning means “next Kobe”. I want Rose to win it first.

  • http://slamonline.com Brion

I was getting nervous for the Heat in the last 5 minutes of the game cuz they went away from what got them the lead and started milking the clock too early in my opinion.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

who was on Battier than? Ibaka started on him. – I just figured Brooks left it that way for the most part.

  • tpathi1

oh nbk..Bosh started..Ibaka was matched up with Bosh i believe, and Redd sorry i misunderstood your comment from before…Im on that same train you on concerning Rose taking that ring!!

  • http://slamonline.com Datkid

nbk doesn’t he have a point? I’m James Harden, a top 5 2 guard, 6th man of the year and 3rd best player on the team shouldn’t I get more shots If the team wants to win? Especially If I started out as Hot as I did..

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

i’m pretty sure Perkins started on Bosh. I did watch the 1st quarter. Bosh was killing him with his speed, he had like 3 offensive rebounds in the 1st quarter.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Dat, he was mad after game 1, not game 2. and according to what i heard he got over it rather quickly. i just think that’s some pretty good evidence that Harden might be ready to have his own spotlight.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

nbk, it does a little bit but I have no problem with it. If anything it shows that OKC might have a hard time keeping Harden which is why I think their focus should be on resigning Ibaka due to the fact that personal glory doesn’t seem to drive him and the lack of elite shotblocking bigs in today’s NBA.

  • https://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway/status/213315516360687617 nbk

i think Phoenix having so much money is going to be a big obstacle for OKC. Especially with Robert Sarver who is unpredictable. I am not putting it past them offering Harden a max deal. If OKC has to match a max-deal for Harden, knowing Ibaka will get more than $10M a season. If they want to keep both, OKC is going to have to amnesty Perkins. Their situation is not as rosy as it seems.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

I have always felt that you don’t need 3 star/superstar players to be a championship team. You can get away with 2 star players surrounded by a bunch of good role players who are willing to do the dirty work (rebound, defend, and draw charges). That was something that MIA lacked last year because outside of Haslem (who was hurt/ineffective most of the year) no one was willing to do the kind of dirty work it takes to win a championship. The acquisition of Battier gives them that guy.

  • http://www.nba.com Redd

Oh excuse me, I did kind of screw up what I meant. Either way it goes I won’t be offended by who wins but it’d be nice to make sure Rose becomes the next ‘it’ player instead of KD.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

Honestly, their best bet may be a S&T with Harden to Phoenix or Toronto. Cause Harden will want his spotlight and that Thunder payroll is about to balloon, especially when a team like Sacto throws something like $48 mil, 4 years at Ibaka.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

    Harden to Toronto? WTF?

  • LA Huey

Yeah, Harden’s not staying. He might be willing to embrace the “Pippen” role of facilitating the offense and locking down the other teams best player but I don’t see it happening. I think it’s better for OKC to keep Ibaka and let Harden walk or trade him for young talent to mold into role players.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

Raptors have had their eye on him from what I’ve heard. They’ll have crazy money to throw at him if they amnesty Kleiza. Word was they liked the idea of a Harden/ Derozan 2-3 punch.

  • Roi

What is the difference between this Lebron and the one in Cleveland? He still has to do damn near everything, except that in Miami he even has to guard centers and lead the team in rebounding. Lebron is simply not a complementary player, rather he needs the team to complement him.

  • Roi

Oh and Cleveland fans must be PISSED that Lebron never played as hard in Cleveland as he is doing now.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

I remember when OKC drafted Harden I was thinking WTH. Steph Curry and Reke were available in addition to Ricky Rubio and Brandon Jennings.
I THINK they made the right choice now looking back…

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=542782613 The White Charles Barkley

Pat Riley should trade Wade for Bill Russell.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

Lake, can you imagine Rubio at the 1, Westbrook at the 2 and Durant at the 3?

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

    Yes I can.
    And it’s beautiful…
But it’s also not, because Rubio had the contract in Europe in addition to the injuries (not saying he would or would not be injured in OKC). Also the contract situation would not be any better going forward and the team would have to dismantle like it is going to anyway.
Sorry that was kind of the downer, realistic route.
Or as I call it the nbk route.
Wow it would be amazing though…
Think about how they run already, then throw Rubio in as the Quarter Back and Russ running at the 2 spot. Holy smokes.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

So yes, I think they should have grabbed Rubio instead of Harden. Especially since Rubio might have left Spain for OKC.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

I do not agree with that.
What’s arguable is who is better.
What is not arguable is who has had more NBA success. This is a league about what have you done for me lately. Ask any player. Harden is a 6th man of the year 18ppg scorer off the bench. What has Ricky done? You honestly think that Rubio was going to come out of Spain for OKC but not Minny?
    Whaaaa?
You think he wanted to go to a team in a new state and city that is not well known for being a haven for entertainment and such in addition to the fact that the Thunder’s record was ’23-59′ …
I don’t agree, but it’s mute, so whatevs.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

Sigh, that one wasn’t me Lake. Yeah, Harden has for sure had more success. Don’t worry, I know that. I just think Rubio on the Thunder (as a rookie this year) might have fit the Thunder better than Harden. Who knows though.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

    I have a foot fetish!!!

  • http://Slamonline.com Datkid

ROI nahh lebron arguably played harder in Cleveland. He avg 40,10,10 in 09 against the magic. He torched the pistons for 25 straight, and what about the epic duel he had w/ paul pierce in 08? IMO tho he plays just as hard as he did then, he just doesn’t do quite as much bc even injured wade+bosh take a little pressure off him. Just their presence on the floor means the entire defense can’t key in on him.

  • http://Slamonline.com Datkid

This Miami team does need him to do everything for them tho. Also harden seems to be working out just fine for OKC. You can argue that they might be better with Rubio… But they’re in the finals. You cant do much better than that. And without Harden they might not be. Also why wouldn’t Rubio come to America for the chance to play with KD and Westbrook?

My apologies for bringing up history.
    There are different kinds of mileage on players;
Tim Duncan = highway miles. Not spending too much on the deck, or under the knife.
Dwyane Wade = city miles. Multiple surgeries on multiple body parts. Spends much time on the floor.

  • http://slamonline.com The Philosopher

And Kevin Durant will go down as one of the greatest scorers of all time.

  • Gary E

By 2016, the Heat will have cemented their legacy as the Buffalo Bills of the NBA. They play with about as much heart as their heartless, disconnected, ultra-quiet home crowd. Look for some crisp passes by LeBron to Udonis Haslem (or anyone else) in the waning seconds as they go deeper into the finals. If I hear anyone even remotely compare this guy to Jordan anymore, I’ll puke.

  • http://slamonline.com Datkid

who compared lebron to jordan on this thread dumb@ss?

  • SeanMagicJuan

I’ve seen a ton of flopping comments and comparisons with no mention of one Derrick Lamar Fisher, are we serious here? He is the one player who can “draw” 2 or 3 charges in a single 24 second possession.

Go back to sleep dat, if you’ve never heard those comparisons, you must be living under a rock. Find a thread where 12-year olds are discussing the NBA so you can showcase your gripping insights.

  • justink81

Guess what people if its a foul at the first of the game its a foul at the end of the game. You don’t all of a sudden say oh well we will just let them play now with a few seconds left. I think it was a foul but I’m biases I’m an OKC fan. But the ref was just in a bad spot and could not see so I can live with that they aren’t always going to make the right calls. If he wuld have just yelled like lbj and dwade do they would have called the foul. And for flopping I mean really no dwade votes the man flops a lot a lot not so much on defense but on offense he does

  • justink81

Oh ya one other thing I know fouls were missed on both ends and little oh he touched me so I yelled dwade calls got made for him. But remember the goal tending call that wasn’t goal tending. Even the refs discussed it and still got it wrong.
