Mike Miller to Consider Retirement During the Offseason

Should offseason back surgery push Mike Miller to retire from the NBA, he’ll have gone out in style. To say the least. Per the Miami Herald: “Miller has arguably the toughest decision to make of any Heat player in the coming weeks. His bad back, which isn’t the only reason he missed 68 regular-season games during the past two seasons (foot, thumb, shoulder, ankle, hernia), will likely require surgery. He said Monday the odds he will go under the knife are ‘better than 50-50.’ Miller said Monday he will see a doctor about his back later this week. If he doesn’t need the surgery, he said he’s definitely interested in returning to the Heat, which still owes him $18.6 million guaranteed for the next three seasons years. If he needs surgery, retirement is a possibility. ‘It will be hard to walk away,’ Miller said. ‘But I have to make a good decision. I want to be able to play with my kids.’ Although he started just two regular-season games and averaged 19.3 minutes a game this past season, Miller improved his three-point percentage dramatically, shooting 45.3 percent (up from 36.4 percent the previous season). In the playoffs, he was 31 of 75 from three-point range (41.3 percent) and averaged 16 minutes a game. The Heat considered using its amnesty clause last winter to dump Miller’s contract, but ultimately decided against it. There’s a chance the Heat could use it next season if Miller decides not to retire. ‘I remember texting Coach [Pat] Riley and saying thanks for not taking me behind the barn and putting me to sleep,’ Miller said. ‘I still got something left in me.’”

Best way for a role player to go out. I’m for it – he looked zombified when the adrenaline wasn’t pumping.

    is he Uncle Drew?

  • O

Pat Riley is praying this happens. That’ll free up money to sign a few heads…

O I am praying this can work out so that we can sign a Dalembert type of player this offseason

  • Jono

Whatever it is, what a way to end the season for this guy.

Dude went HAM the last game of his career if he decides to call it quits. He can always say he went out guns blazing.

Like millers game but leave on a high note. Dude went to Florida, played for Heat and won a title. Health is much more important at this point. Plus on a basketball note like MUBWAR and O both stated it frees up more money for other signings. With Miller, Jones and Howard off the books…thats an estimated 8mil. If there was a way to split that between Ray Allen and Samuel Dalembert…this team would regain the 3pt shooting its losing with Miller and Jones missing, and the defensive presence it never had in the post. Positions 2-5 blocking shots would be crazy. Good luck scoring.

Please retire, he’s such a joke

Even if he retires, Miami will only have the Mid-Level Exception. It benefits the team if he retires and they replace him with a better player. Which is not necessarily what will happen. Miller was huge for them in the playoffs.

mike miller was amazing in gm 5, he played hard even tho he was banged up i respect that.. he plays very good defense too..– All of miamis others played there roles perfect!

If Mike Miller leaves (or even if he doesn’t), the Heat would really benefit from signing another Miller: Andre. He’s hungry, and doesn’t seem to mind not having the ball in his hands every single second. Also, he throws some sick lobs.

A lot of people forget Miller was the ROY in 2001. He’s had a great career as a role player and would have sustained his production had it not been for nagging injuries. Loved watching him play with the Magic.

    PROPS to Mike MILLAH!

The heat won’t need Samuel Dalembert if they draft Festus Ezili tonight. Fes could dunk on Dalembert with one hand tied behind his back. He’s as close to Hakeem Olajuwon (sp?)as you’re going to get with a #27 pick ever.

Not saying he was faking, I do believe he was hurting, but it seemed to me like he played up his injury a little extra whenever he made a bad play. lol

    Awesome Pootie Tang reference

MILLAH out RAY ALLEN in, if that’s the case it’s over for everybody else in the league. 12-13 Season Miami got this…..again

  • http://www.hoopsworld.com IamYOU

RAY should go to Miami to win 1 more chip and MIA needs another BIG MAN. I don’t know if Miami would pick Ezili but if they won’t, I hope they’ll get Kaman which is nearly impossible because of cap space. However if they can pull it off, IT WOULD BE A REPEAT FOR MIAMI! BANG BANG MUTHFU-!

  • bhoyal

Let’s see Dalembert or Hamed Haddadi do THIS…
(some of it was against Anthony Davis and Kidd-Gilchrist)

    Miami needs Ezili
