Paul Pierce Wants to End His Career Alongside Kevin Garnett

It’s out of his control, but Paul Pierce doesn’t want the Big 4 in Boston to be broken up. Pierce would especially like for the Celtics to re-sign Kevin Garnett. From WEEI: “Following Boston’s 101-88 loss to the Heat in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals, captain Paul Pierce made it clear he wants management to do whatever they can to bring Kevin Garnett back for one more run with the Celtics. ‘He’s been everything for my career, just his locker room presence, his desire, his determination, his leadership,’ Pierce said. ‘I’ve said before when Kevin first got here, he really changed the culture of everything we did around here, from the practice habits to the on-court discipline. He made everybody accountable, from the ballboys, to the chefs to the guy who flew the plane. Everybody was accountable. It was just tremendous to have him around, just the culture he brought. ‘It would be great for me to end my career with Kevin. I have a couple of years left [on Celtics contract] and who knows what his future is going to bring. Hopefully, management can do something to bring him back, maybe add some pieces to this team that we need to get us over the top. If not, it’s been a tremendous ride.’ Garnett, who fell into early foul trouble in Game 7 and finished with 14 points and seven rebounds in 35 minutes, is now an unrestricted free agent after spending the last five seasons in Boston. Garnett did not speak to reporters after the game but Pierce did address what went wrong in Game 7, a contest the Celtics led by seven at halftime before being outscored by 20 in the second half. [...] Pierce is hoping for one more run with Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen and Garnett but he knows it’s not his decision. ‘That’s a question you’re going to have to ask management,’ Pierce said. ‘Obviously, we want to play together. Management has their choices that they can make. I’m just happy that they were able to let us play.’”

I’m glad he made sure the guys flying the plane were accountable, by the sounds of things the celtics team flights weren’t a good place to be pre-KG

Fingers (and toes) crossed Ticket tries to give it a go for 2 more years (same with TimmyD). I’d LOVE for it to be in Beantown, but I’d settle for 2 more years of KG even on another team at this point…

That’s just an awesome quote from Pierce. People that don’t play with KG think he’s a scumbag, but it’s nice to know his teammates appreciate him.

  • ZEASLUAR

for that to happen, Garnett has to take a serious money reduction, even when KG where they’re more consistent player throughout this playoffs, $20millions a year is a lot to take that risk, maybe if he’s willing to take $10-$12million that would be a good sign for the celtics, and leave to wiggle room to add a few other role players with the other $8-$10millions

  • @hoopDREAMZ_11

That was wonderful of Paul to give such a great speech on his teammate. They have been playing do long together to build chemistry and love one another on the court. I think managament will take this into consideration

^those dudes r really the best, love to play with them, HATE to play against them

  • banjo benny

Is it just me or does Paul Pierce look like Beetlejuice from the Howard Stern Show?

  • LA Huey

So I doubt the Celtics can really get anyone via free agency to make the same impact KG did so they should try to bring him back. So what do you guys think he’s worth? He’s still, at least, a $10M big man. I know that’s a 50% pay cut for him but fair value considering the miles he has on those knees.

  • Fat Lever

Somewhere Ray Allen is screaming, “What about me?!?!”

  • Fat Lever

And KG will probably get a 2-3 year deal worth about $10M a year, I’m guessing.

@bt – You won this thread with the opening shot. Good work.

  • Stephen

I see what you did with that headline… double edge sword and I like it! :)

  • ClydeSays

I can see KG & Ray resigning only if they’re willing to take a discount. KG has made a crazy amount of money in his career, so he might sign a short deal for short money. I get the feeling Ray is looking for more cash though… We’ll see…

I can see KG coming back, but not Ray. i don’t even think money is the thing with him, he’s looking for more shots.

@banjo benny shut up and stop hating you look like the crap that comes out of bj ass!

I WISH DANNY AINGE WOULD CONSIDER BRINGING THEM BACK I”VE BEEN A CELTICS FAN FOREVER EVEN WHEN DANNY AINGE WAS A PLAYER FOR BOSTON.MY HEART IS A CELTIC AND ALL THEY NEED IS ANOTHER SCORER LIKE KG,AND THAT CAN STAY HEALTHY.I THINK DANNY AINGE KNOWS WHAT”S GOOD FOR THE CELTICS AND BY RESIGNING KG,AND RAY-RAY, AND A LOW POST BIG MAN THAT CAN SCORE THE CELTICS WILL BE RAISING THAT BANNER ONCE AGAIN IN 2013

  • mango

Start fresh. Start re-building around Rondo before he enters his prime so he can start chemistry with a New Gen of players. NOW is not the time for Boston to get nostalgic. N E X T.

    $8-10 million is fair.

As a Laker fan, I got mad respect for the Big Three. I hope they can all stay together. I keep thinking Ray Ray and KG are gonna take massive pay cuts just to stay in Boston and to give Ainge some money to spend on FA’s

  • B.C.

It’s over for the Celtics, no matter what Paul Pierce says they are going to break up the big 4.

  • bike

With the run the C’s have had over recent years, I see KG finishing his career out in Boston if they let him. He’s a different breed of cat and $ can’t be that big of a deal for him now.

  • Ross

I guess its so obvious to everyone that Ray Allen won’t be coming back that Pierce’s omission was appropriate…but damnit!..of the big 3 Ray’s my favorite. I hope the surgery brings him back to his old self somehow and hopefully…the Celtics sign him for 1 more year.

  • Ldub

Another year older, another year wiser. But idk if the old bones can keep Bos in contention like they were this year. Can they really rely on double R to play so many massive minutes? Yeah he’s young, but I believe he got burnt as the series played on. All of the big 3 got burnt as the series went on. And they had inefficient bench players. Granted half the roster was out with injuries. But unfortunately you gotta get rid of 1 of the big 3 to bring in some newer, younger talent that RR can grow with. Bring in another shooter similar to that of an anthony morrow. That way you arent losing that 3 pt threat.

  • illchi

Bring my dude KG to the da CHI!!

  • tim

The big 4 wasn`t the problem. They need a damn bench so they don`t have to do everyhing! Dooling was their best role player and he`s a bottom tier guard.

  • http://thosefishtacosarethetits.blogspot.com Chris_Griff_3

^ They have a bench. Dooling, Jeff Green, Chris Wilcox, Mickael Pietrus, and Ray Allen. If they bring the team back, they have a bench.

  • BostonBaller

I’ve been saying it for a few years now…”keep saying that the C’s [big 3] are too old or done and you will eventually have to be right”. If all 3 are back next year in varying roles they can still contend with RR, Bradley, Pietrus, Steez, a healthy Green & Wilcox.

  • Basketball iQ

Im very late to this discussion but personally i think KG would play for free… thats the kind of heart i think he has but of course aint nobody doing that around here when the likes of sheldon williams and trash like ed curry get 2-3mill a season…LOL.
But i see Kg signing for 2 more years 8-10mill a season. He knows this team has to move forward quickly and adding some young legs to run with Rondo at the 2 is essential. EricGordon is on my short wish list and I think they should make him an offer N.O cant match. JeffGreen will come back to for what he signed for last season 1season-9mill or less since hes coming off surgery. Surgery doesnt make you more prominate Mr Falk!
