Ray Allen to Undergo Ankle Surgery on Wednesday

As expected, Ray Allen will go under the knife this week to remove bone spurs from his right ankle. Reports the Boston Herald: “Allen will have surgery to remove bone spurs from the ankle at 6 a.m. on Wednesday at New England Baptist Hospital, according to a source. The problem, which first surfaced during in Los Angeles during the C’s’ eight-game road trip in mid-March, eventually forced Allen to miss 15 regular-season games as well as the first two games of the Celtics’ first-round playoff series against Atlanta. By Allen’s own admission, the ankle had a serious impact on his ability to cut, plant and rise for his fabled jump shot. It even affected his free throw form. Allen finished the playoffs 32-for-45 (.726) from the line — a career postseason low. He did, however, show considerable improvement late in the conference finals against Miami from all spots on the floor. He scored 15 points on 5-for-11 shooting, including three 3-pointers, in Game 7, and was 8-for-8 from the line in Game 5. But with a big summer of free agency looming, Allen vowed to take care of his ankle trouble as quickly as possible.”

People questioned his ankles 5 years ago, so I see no reason why he wouldn’t hold up well for a 2-3 year contract in Chi, LAC, Mia, etc…

Bring him back to be 6th man. Celtics will go from having NO bench to one of the top benches in the league with Ray, Jeff Green, and Mickael Pietrus. If Wilcox can play, bring him back, too. I don’t think anyone has considered that the Celtics have the depth they needed. They just were gutted by injuries.

Speedy recovery Ray. Hope they give him a solid contract in Boston still.

Best of luck, Ray. Hope to see you back in Celtics green next year. If not, anywhere BUT Miami or Lakers…

Just like the nail marks in his hands and feet did, Jesus’ ankle will heal quickly.

Someone will probably pay $5000.00 for one of those surgically removed bone spurs.
    Go spurs.

Get rid if Miller/Jones and perhaps Haslem. And bring him to Miami. I know Miami needs a PG and a C. But the NBA leading 3pt shooter is available…you gotta try and make move for him. When I see Miller or Battier shoot…Im thinkin “damn, I “hope” he makes it”. When I see Allen shoot (since Im not a C’s fan)…Im thinkin “damn, we left him open, thats droppin”. And majority of the time it does. Come on Riley. Chalmers, Allen, Wade, James and Bosh. Make it happen!

Supposedly Boston already nearly traded him to the Grizzlies at the deadline, and he came off the bench for a while behind Avery Bradley. Unless Boston really makes a commitment to him (which I doubt), it’s hard to see him coming back next year. I love Ray, but it’s not looking like we’ll see him in a C’s uni next season.
