Tim Duncan ‘Absolutely’ Believes the Spurs Can Win Game 6

by Marcel Mutoni @marcel_mutoni

Death is knocking at the San Antonio Spurs’ door, and the knock is only getting louder.

And even though the young, hungry, and wildly talented OKC Thunder delivered an absolutely devastating blow last night in San Antonio, the Spurs’ leaders are putting on a brave face.

To a man, they all say that they’re ready to get it on in Game 6, in an attempt to stave off Playoff elimination.

From the Express-News:

Post-shower sweat was still trickling off Tim Duncan’s brow after the Spurs absorbed their third straight loss to the Thunder in the Western Conference finals, a debilitating 108-103 loss at the AT&T Center, but Duncan had a request that surprised everyone: Start Game 6 immediately, please. “I’m ready to play right now,” the Spurs captain said after scoring 18 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in just over 33 minutes of court time. “It’s a heartbreaking way to end that game. I’m ready to get ready to get out there and lace them up again and go.”

Duncan said he was ready to play as much as necessary in Game 6. Stephen Jackson, one of three Spurs who were with him on the 2003 championship team, vowed to play every minute of Wednesday’s Game 6 if need be. “I can play the whole game,” he said. “Before I came here, I was in the top five in minutes the last couple years. I’m used to playing a lot of minutes, and if I have to, I can.” [...] Jackson expressed confidence in the Spurs’ ability to bring the series back to San Antonio for a deciding Game 7. “You know me,” he said. “I’m not submitting to nothing. We’re going to go win this game. We have to. If they can do it, we can do it. I give them their props. They came in and did what they’re supposed to do. They’re a great young team, but we’ve got to go do the same thing. I’m not counting us out.”

Duncan was even more certain of the Spurs’ ability to bounce back. “I absolutely believe we can win,” he said. “I believe we’ve got the right formula, the right attitude and mindset to be able to win on the road. We’ve been in this situation before. I think we’re all very sad and upset about the loss, but we’re excited to go out there, lace them up and go again.”

The San Antonio Spurs sound like desperate men, which is precisely what they are. Their remarkable season is on the verge of termination, and they will need to play a near-perfect Game 6 in order to push this series to the limit.

San Antonio is (obviously) not ready to count itself out; is anyone?

  • lakernation

OKC is just a better team hands down. F the spurs winning streak…. that doesnt matter when you got durant and westbrook and harden on yo azz.

  • JoeMaMa

    COME ON SPURS!!! LET’S GO!!!

  • andrew

spurs think they are a good team??? they are a good team..otherwise, they wouldn’t be here…

Come on San Antonio, I want Duncan to win his 5th championship. Nobody deserves it more. Just a great player, great person, and a awesome team mate.

Tim has to step up and have a monster game. Forget Tony Parker, he’s out of it. Tim is being single covered all game, time to take advantage of that….

    come on timmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

i doubt it happens though.. =(

  • timbo slice

have to love this series, seasoned vets vs. energetic youth
    the definition of entertaining basketball

  • bike

They can if Parker figures out how to counter the defense OKC is throwing at him and causing all those turnovers.

  • Phil da Windmill

Manu and Loud Pack Jack had the best game out of all the spurs last night.

  • Ash

You can’t count Spurs out until there is no time on the clock. They didn’t get 20 wins in a row for nothing. I have to say OKC is better than my team, Miami Heat. They have the toughness and experience to back it up. Great series! This is basketball to its fullest.

The Thunder have been playing tremendous ball, but the Spurs can do it, the have to keep their focus sustained for the whole game, that being said I have more and more respect for Durant, I have always held him in high regard, but he reminds me a lot of Duncan, humble in victory focused and poised, if the Spurs lose I will be saddened but losing to a quality team and most of all a quality individual such as Durant will ease the disappointment. I have lost so much respect for Harden during this series, I vehemently defended him in the Ron Artest incident, but I have seen him bump multiple players while they are in-bounding or running up court, not justifying MWP’s actions but I understand the other side just a little bit more.

    ^^^ WORD TO ASH ^^^^

I like for the Spurs to win but their defense has been the reason they are losing. In championship defense wins hands down and unless they pick up their defense the Thunder will be in the Finals.

  • LuisTmac

Let’s Go Spurs, for the 5th Championship

  • fruizm

I used to HATE the spurs, but I think I hate the Thunder even more now. Cant stand them!

  • http://spursfan Terry Evans

The Spurs are a great team. Just because they are older than OKC, don’t think they can’t still play. Look what they have accomplished this year. Anyone who thinks they are not good is an idiot.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

    If TP shows up.

  • Ari

It is time to show everyone the definition of a winner and show up tomorrow with no doubts that Spurs will be heading to Game 7 in San Antonio just in time to redeem themselves and head to the finals. A little Bruce Bowen D, and a little Avery Johnson smartness at the Point and we will win ! Learn from your elders

  • youfgangs

give it up everyone spurs are a bunch of old balls let okc make history
bunch of 23-25 year olds dominating the league shame everyone young youf okc alday errday

  • Ldub

@ASH…toughness I will give them. Experience? I cant agree they are more experienced than any of the final 4 team. Aside for Perkins and Fisher..no one else has made it to the finals. Just about everyone on the all of the other teams have been to the finals and aside from Haslem and Wade…they have won the finals. So i cant agree with OKC having the experience. Ill give them the young hunger/toughness but thats about it. I still would love to see a MIA/OKC Finals. With Miami winning it in 7! (I would like a sweep but just because Im a bball fan and wouldnt want the series to end that quick)…MIAMI IN 7!

  • lamar hudson

Lets go spurs were going to win game 6 everboy is couting us out so we got to show them who we are we have the haert of a champion lets show everybody wat we are made of

  • http://spursfan Terry Evans

I hate to bring this up, but the referring is pathetic. How about the three goal tends in game three that were never called against OKC. This kind of officating is so unfair. I am not saying it is all one-sided, but I have seen enough bad calls to make me think that something preferencial is going on.

nbk, I’m sorry dude, you deserve a better imitator than this cat. He’s not even funny, sadly.

  • DukeFromDeep

Anyway.. My prediction is this. Both the C’s and OKC either win it for game 6 thus forcing a OKC/C’s final because if it goes to seven for both teams they both lose forcing a Heat/Spurs final. I believe it will be a Heat/Spurs final, or as NBK would say. Book it!

  • dowio

spurs will surely bounce back,, will win game 6 and finish it off in game 7 to advance in nba finall..

  • Devio

The spurs dunks and layups need to improve, and the layups, and too much passing can be good but frequently it has caused turnovers quite often. The spurs team players might be older, but if younger players are hired, people will see more spurs dunks and points.

  • SPURS FAN REY

HYFR HELL YA F***KIN RIGHT, GO SPURS GO. FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Spurs

Spurs win game 6 and 7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
