Trevor Ariza, Emeka Okafor Traded for Rashard Lewis and Draft Pick

According to Draft Express (and other media outlets), the Washington Wizards and New Orleans Hornets have swapped players in a trade involving Emeka Okafor, Trevor Ariza, Rashard Lewis and a Draft Pick: “NBA source tells me Emeka Okafor and Trevor Ariza have been traded to the Washington Wizards for Rashard Lewis and the #46 pick … Rashard Lewis’ 23.8 million dollar contract can be bought out for 13.7 million before July 1st. Trade saves New Orleans around 30 million? New Orleans now has unlimited cap space, in addition to the #1 pick, the #10 pick, and Eric Gordon. Not a bad time to be a Hornets fan. “

    Trevore Arizar?

  • Nate C

Trevore Arizar is my favorite player

  • greg

why would washington do this deal whats the advantage for them??

  • JLP

@Greg no advantage at all, but it’s the Wizards!

  • http://www.nba.com/bulls The Babe

How is this a good trade for washington at all?… they better make a few more trades or it’s gonna be crisis time

  • http://ZOGS1.COM ZOGS1

ok now ANTHONY DAVIS will average a SHlTLOAD OF REBOUNDS!!!
    whos their next best big?
i dont agree with this trading a solid 12 and 10, and a solid 15 ppg scorer for the most highly overpaid player in the NBA and a decent 10th pick player…
its clear the the New Orleans will be playing the lottery for a few more years…

    ^No more Shard…

    @ greg

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

@ Zogs, Chris Kaman is their next big. He averaged nearly 13 boards a few years back. None the less Davis should be “getting his.”

Wizards get a top 10 center and a top 10 sf while unloading Rashard Lewis contract. Good Trade washington. Plus they have the 3rd pick. Seems like a good starting 5 with wall, beal, trevor, nene and okafor. Should challenge for a playoff spot.

a lineup of john jordan trevor nene and okafor is pretty solid

  • http://slamonline.com 19821982

Probably because Wall, Nene, Ariza, Okafor, and Jordan Crawford is better than whatever they had before.

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

That means the Wiz are definitely going for Brad Beal at the 3rd pick.

  • http://thahiphopcorner.com Kevin

Can NO just already announce their taking Anthony Davis? The team with the first pick in the NFL draft will announce their selection weeks before the draft sometimes

  • Matt Park

    Excellent trade.

  • Patrick

Any chance this trade gets vetoed?

  • Trilla

Goddamnit I wanted Thomas Robinson or MKG

  • Apex

It’s against rules to announce who you are taking before the draft.

  • http://kb24.com x-DrEw_MaiN-x

Its a great trade for the Wiz they got Rashard off the books thanks to ORLando he was one of the highest paid players in the league -_- Good Job wizards lol

  • Vince

great, now get rid of blatche!!

  • T-Money

i don’t like it for dc. leonsis is too impatient. nene, mek, ariza, crawford and john wall will get you a 7th or 8th seed but that’s not really something to build on. it’s a great trade for NO, tho.

  • http://thahiphopcorner.com Kevin

@Apex seriously? SMH that’s a terrible rule that the NBA has.

  • Kadavour

NO didn’t trade for Rashard Lewis, they just wanted the cap space. they’re gonna buy him out and he’s going to play for the mid level exception elsewhere.

  • CubicleWorker

    T-Money… don’t forget to add either Beal/MKG/TRob.

  • Ldub

Wall, Crawford, Ariza, Nene and Okafor is a good starting lineup. Howevever there isnt any experience in that lineup. There really isnt a go to guy. And who do they have coming off the bench? Its good that they got rid of Lewis, but now what? IDEK if this lineup is good enough to get you in the 7th or 8th spot like T-Money said. Chi, Mia, Bos, Orl, Atl, Ind, Phi, NY (should be 1-8)…I dont see Wash making playoffs with this lineup. Even Kyrie Irving getting some help in Ohio has a better chance.

  • 2Quick

    Hornets got the better deal?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

This can be a good move for both teams, I don’t think any free agents would of wanted to go to Washington no matter the money with whatever they were going to do to rashard contract, so getting some quality players like that is a decent move.

  • http://www.dimemag.com Showtime

This was good move on both parts, wash defense get dramtically better. Also know beal is a lock for #3. So the lineup is wall, beal, ariza okaford & nene. With gunner crawford , vessely, serph off bench. With Hornets that get those contracts off books and more money for gordon & or kaymen to resign plus addition of A.D or another big such as pj3 or Leonard or even Moultre

  • Ldub

dont forget that the hornest can amnesty Lewis and rid themselves of that contract making room for more or a better player.

  • http://www,slamonline.com S-Mills

I also wanted MKG or T-ROB in the draft, oh well, i do like this trade! Can we amnesty Blatch?

  • Mike

@Ldub…didnt you read the article? they will buy out Lewis!

  • Mike

    Rigged just like the finals.

  • http://slamonline.com Datkid

I said on twitter a wall beal, ariza, okafor, nene lineup is good enough for 6th or 7th in the east I think. you’ve got a long, athletic, speedy, defensively sound team, that can shoot pretty well from outside, and run the P&R well. plus you’ve got 3 guys (wall, beal, and nene) that can create their own shot. the wizards will be one to watch very soon.

  • Wet

It’s all about cap space for the hornets. The wizards are probably going to draft Beal. John Wall, Beal, Ariza, Okafor and Nene… that might be a playoff team.

  • Ldub

Mike….didnt YOU read the article….Rashard Lewis’ 23.8 million dollar contract “can” be bought out for 13.7 million before July 1st. Since when does CAN become a guarantee? We know this is what will probably happen, but that doesnt mean it is going to happen…mister NBA owner!

  • Ldub

@datkid….Im saying (IMO) they wouldnt make the playoffs so soon. Yes you have that potential, but Beal hasnt played an NBA game, you need team chemistry. That is all going to develop and take time. Maybe in a year or 2, but I dont see them jumping into the playoffs fresh out the gate. Unless they were sandbagging like people claimed, so they could get good picks. Im pulling for these dudes, they are an east coast team and Wall is one of my fav pg’s to watch.

  • Rainman

@zogs1: did u read the article? The 10th pick had no part in the trade, and this was an AMAZING trade for new orleans from a cap perspective.

Also, did someone say okafor was a top 10 center? LOL

  • Wet

Okafor is closer to a top 10 center than Ariza is to a top 10 sf.

  • Rainman

@wet: that too lol, ariza ain’t on that list either

  • http://slamonline.com Datkid

Ldub I hear you, you’re probably right.

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

Oh Trevor; You should have stayed with LA. Now look at you.

  • ab40

okafor, nene, booker, veseley. That’s a nice big man rotation for the wizards. They’ll have two double double bigs. And if John Wall can work on his game instead of playing around in the et summer leagues they might get in the playoffs next season.

  • Mike From Spain

For those who said there is no experience in the lineup of Wall, Crawford, Ariza, Nene and Okafor, just remember Ariza has a ring and is a 9th year vet.

  • http://www.twitter.com/hurstysyd Hursty

Both teams got better. Washington added legitimate starting NBA players. Hornets clear up huge cap space to sign 2 very good/excellent calibre players.

  • BostonBaller

    f*cking stern

  • Wixurrs

brilliant trade for New Orleans. They have enough cap space now to resign Eric Gordon and offer a max contract to another free agent. Put those two alongside the #1 pick in the draft and the #10 pick and you get an exciting team.

  • Wixurrs

the Hornets were trying to trade the 10th pick as long as that team also took Okafor (often injured) and Ariza (who coach Williams benched for lack of effort). Now they get rid of both, take zero money back, and keep their 10th pick. Wow.

  • Ldub

Is EG a restricted FA? I feel is really odd to keep a player that doesnt necessarily want to stay. I thought EG made it clear that he wanted to be out of NO. And if another team comes along to swoop him up….why would you put the money up to keep him? In my mind, youre trying to keep someone that cannot give 100% effort because they dont want to be there. Spend your money on those that do. Plus EG is often injured….so do they really wanna spend any of that 30mil on this dude?
