Agent Says Dwight Howard Won’t Sign Extension, Will Test Free Agency

Well, so much for that … Dwight Howard’s agent flatly rejected the widely reported notion that his client would be willing to sign a contract extension with the LA Lakers (or anyone else, for that matter) should the Orlando Magic trade him. Via ESPN: “Dwight’s position has remained unchanged since the end of this past season,’ said Dan Fegan of LaGardere Unlimited. ‘He fully intends to explore free agency at the end of next season, regardless of what team trades for him, including Brooklyn.’ A source said the Nets never insisted Howard commit to an extension as a prerequisite for acquiring him, which Nets president Billy King confirmed in a text message. Howard told the Magic, according to GM Rob Hennigan, he would like to be traded to the Brooklyn Nets above any other team. The Nets made concerted efforts to strike a deal for Howard earlier this month, but were forced to stop when the Charlotte Bobcats threatened to sign their restricted free agent center, Brook Lopez, to an offer sheet. Lopez was expected to be a key part of any deal with the Magic and signing an offer sheet could have preempted including him in any deal, depending on the terms of the offer sheet. The Nets then signed Lopez to a four-year, $61 million deal. Since then, the Lakers have become the primary suitor for Howard, recruiting both the Houston Rockets and Cleveland Cavaliers as potential third-team participants to deliver the salary relief, draft picks and young talent that Orlando is seeking in return for their All-Star center.”

I hope he is healthy after all of this crap. if not, he legacy is screwed. NBA fans are looking for a new bad-guy now that they can’t hate on LeBron and Dwight seems to be begging for that spot.

It all comes down to whether the Lakers are willing to give up on their future in hopes of winning right now.

And with that DH12 has effectively enabled this scenario to carry on another 10 months or so…

This situation has gotten so sickeningly ridiculous that it’s laughable. As a fan I’ve grown weary hearing this guy waffle around so much. He’s that leak in the house that can’t be fixed unless you move away.

^Haha! It’s abysmal. Even more irritating and distracting than the Melodrama, which was pretty damn bad.
I have a great idea on how the NBA can cut down on this business – stop trades. That’ll make players STFU until free agency. It’d be great!

This is by far worse than a certain 1 hour special.

Why did he opt in for the final year then? That’s an actual question to people here. Was there a good reason to do so if all he wants is free agency? Will there be more teams with cap room next year? It makes no sense to me but I could be easily missing an angle here.

if howard is still on the magic roster when the season starts, i can see him be sit down for the entire season.

Dwightmare… the Legend Continues. Brought to you buy Dan Fegan and Amway. Wanna know more?

  • MeloMan15

have we coome to the point where we can classify the dwightmare as worse than the decision?

He signed the extension because he lacks testicles. Instead of nutting up and doing what he thought was best, he punked out, gave in to Orlando’s pleading and signed a stupid extension.
Then he realized how stupid it was after the fact, and that was that.

Lol nutting up. He didn’t want to be a “villain” so he caught feelings for Orlando.

    This $hit is beyond aggravating

  • Ldub

He wont sign because he can get a max deal after 2013-2014. Spend the 2 years with Kobe and then he will be the man in LA once Kobe retires at 35. Even if he test the FA market, there wont be another team that can offer him the money LA will be able to. He isnt going to go to the Nets because they simply cant afford him. If I am not mistaken CP3 will be a FA at the same time. I strongly feel he will shift locker rooms and go to LAL as well. Clippers cannot win with the team they have now. A team of CP and DH has a much better chance.

  • robb

I hope Dwight gets the worst deal possible

  • Oh Nose

    I hope Dwight doesn’t get a deal

Magic should just sit him on the bench the entire season. He doesn’t want to be in Orlando, so why not just let the team move on without him? I’d love to see him rot at the end of the bench.

  • Charles

This is turrible for the NBA. This guy has no conscience for his own team and the city of Orlando. He makes me sick to my stomach. We talk all the time about players being imature, he is the new king of drama!

  • Mat

And next offseason he joins lebron in miami for some MLE or something like that for a beggars salary just to play with lebron

goodbye lebron james scapegoat of the nba, hi donkey-dwight :D

  • phamie

I would love to sign an extension with the LAKERS… LOL

The Magic should make the Rockets Trada ASAP. They need to get rid of this dude.

  • vtrobot

Some of these dudes are like politicians now. About 25% of their energy is spent on actually focusing on the task at hand. 75% is spent on worrying about their future.
