Antawn Jamison Will Reportedly Sign With the Lakers

According to the Charlotte Observer, free agent forward Antawn Jamison has made his choice, and that choice is the Los Angeles Lakers: “Jamison, who starred at Providence High and North Carolina, gave serious consideration to finishing his NBA career as a Bobcat. But late Monday he decided to sign with the Lakers for a chance to pursue a championship, an informed source said. Jamison is on vacation in Europe. He’s expected to sign with the Lakers once he returns to the United States later this week. A 14-season NBA veteran, Jamison would have been big for the Bobcats as both a power forward and a mentor to a young team. Bobcats executives Rod Higgins and Rich Cho recruited him over dinner two weeks ago, as Jamison still lives in Charlotte and is raising four children here. Jamison said he was torn between the chance to spend winters with his family versus signing with a contender. The Lakers and Brooklyn Nets both made him contract offers. Jamison averaged 17.2 points and 6.3 rebounds with the Cleveland Cavaliers last season. He should provide strong bench scoring for a Lakers team that will feature Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum and newly signed Steve Nash.”

Good pick up. Still a NBA Stated coming off your bench

  • timbo slice

    huge

  • Fresh Boirdee

Good pick up, but LA looking old out here. Wish we could have kept sessions as a back up. Now we need to get rid of Barnes and Artest.

Oh, look. Another undersized, non-defending 3pt shooting power forward to bolster the Lakers bench. That sounds familiar.. oh, wait! Troy Murphy!
Good luck to Antawn though. Liked him as a Mav & Wiz player.

    dope.

Lakers getting a lot better this offseason..

  • http://none bogoyme

Lakerfan here but the bench is getting from being all scrubs to all-old doghouse team here. Y’all see the Lakers summer league team getting beaten daily by 50pts.!!!

  • MirChilly

@ Hursty… No troll but comparing Troy Murphy to Antawn Jamison… Big reach…
I see sixth man of the year potential. He can still score and hit the boards some, should get easier shots with nash now too. Only if Artest and Barnes actually come to play

  • LA Huey

I’m sure Mike Brown is thrilled. Non-factor at best.

last’s season might have been the quitest 17 and 6 since loy vaught or some one like that did it

    Gary Payton-Karl Malone part 2?

  • http://bleacherreport Gary Arakel

Antawn Jamison will be a great addition to our bench. You can’t find a player, who can score like him for the veteran minimum, even at his age. The age is not a factor. The contribution is.Nash is also older, but he can play this game. Now, we have to concentrate on getting Courtney Lee and resign Jordan Hill. Unfortunately, the amnesty window is closed already and MWP is still on our roster and salary book. That was big mistake. By waiving him, we could shreed some $ 9.5 millions from our Luxury Tax and have the mobility to sign two more good players for our second unit.

  • Josh

A UNC boy for my fav team! Great pickup

  • RickyRude

Lakers are slowly becoming my personal fav to win it all next year. With their addition of Steve Nash, I started liking them. And now Antawn, man I hope they can get a ring or two. It would be like a happy ending kinda thing.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Good pickup for Lakers, we still need a backup shooting guard.

  • BiggGrip

Everyone talks about age. I see two major additions that are mature and hungry for a glimpse of a championship. The level of professionalism will be raised on this team. It won’t be all Kobe waiting for others to step up and he can actually rest some times now. Scoring options are created with the additions of Nash and Antwan. Yes MWP is still around but now he has to show up. Good job to the office for making key moves with limited resources.

  • LA Huey

TADOne, Karl Malone is rolling in his grave…

  • lisa

Now the Lakers need to get a pg and sg. Get Courtney Lee now!

  • KP

They have a backup point guard and shooter.. Steve Blake. Good or bad, I believe he has a “no trade” clause in his contract so he is the Lakers Back up PG..

    KP

  • LA Huey

I doubt Steve Blake has a no trade clause in his contract. You need something like 5 years of tenure with the team you’re resigning with to earn that.

  • G Mannings

Lake Show now needs to rid themselves of Steve Blake he is garbage let the sophmore Morris get on the job training behind Nash

  • HoOssining

The Lakers are so subtle in their dealings to the point that most folk tend to miss the good dealings because they are so quick to respond emotionally. Just last year Antawn AVERAGED 17 points a game. On the Lakers he will NOT be throwing up three points but will be a superb low post player as he as been for all these years. Now, on the Lakers, he gets to rest and explode when he comes in off he bench AND have Nash get him the ball too. So, believe me when I say it…his teammates are going to believe in him to score cuz Antawn regardless of his years is going to blow up in L.A. Welcome to Los Angeles Mr. Jamison … now, go get that RING.

They have leapfrogged the Spurs I think with these moves especially if they get Courtney Lee. A few more pieces and they could be on OKC’s level.

  • http://www.slamonline.com nbk

you are dumb fake me. how in the f*cking world would they get Courtney Lee?

  • Sparker

    lamar minus 2.0

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

    Nice sign.
He has the ability to average double digits off the bench. Probably won’t just because Pau and Bynum are getting 33+mins.
Realistically the Lakes need one thing from him: Come off the bench and nail two 3′s a game. Start focusing on that stroke AJ.
There aren’t any major holes in the roster now. I hope Ebanks has been having a off season of learning and equipping himself. He has potential to be the back up at the 2 spot and 3 spot.

  • RJ

Anyone who’s saying this is a “nonfactor” is a moron. We needed bench scoring and this guy is craft around the rim (averaged 17 last year). Has a chance to be really effective off the bench. Players get rejuvenated when they come to LA. Not to mention Nash brings the best out of all of his teammates.

2:24 is the troll. You suck at being me. I don’t understand why you just say my comments aren’t mine. What kind of trolling is that? You’re a douche.

No mention of Engeye or DJO.
I prefer trading blake for picks. DJO and Goudelock are combo and can get minutes as needed at pg. What to do about Engeye? Train overseas maybe.

  • stolen

for those laker fans who are saying he averaged 17 points last year, that is because he had 16 attempts a game. he threw the most number of shots for the cavs. i highly doubt he’ll even get to 10 shots a game with the lakers. with kobe, bynum, gasol and nash, he’ll probably be the last option on offense.

  • Ray allen baby

I think if they get him and Dwight they will be a very good team this upcoming season

  • Sundance

Ain’t no way lakers get past OKC
