Anthony Davis Sprains Ankle, Most Likely Won’t Play in 2012 Olympics

Team USA was already going to be competing in London without Dwight Howard, LaMarcus Aldridge and Chris Bosh. Now it appears that an already thin front line has gotten thinner. From Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski: “Anthony Davis, the No. 1 overall draft pick of the New Orleans Hornets, suffered a severely sprained ankle in a workout Saturday and almost assuredly will bypass a chance to play for Team USA this summer in the London Olympics, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.”

Which (healthy) big man do you think the team should add to its bench?

probably a blessing in disguise for the Hornets. He would’ve hit the rookie wall by January if he played in the Olympics.

Roy Hibbert should take his place

  • hyperactive

sprained ankle? for real? davis is already hurt? could this be the beginning of an injury plagued career?

  • http://slamonline.com badnewsballer

    G.O 2.0

  • TheWhiteMarkPrice

Roy Hibbert, Deandre Jordan, Greg Monroe are about the only choices left at Center.
David West, DeMarcus Cousins should get an audition as well.

  • hyperactive

    @badnewsballer you read my mind

  • http://www.fullc0urtpress.com KHOLIDAY05

Wowwwwwwwww… Somebody better get that boy some milk ASAP! dont know if he’s ever been seriously hurt, but he does not want to be Greg Oden Part 2.

  • jaychau

Or it could be just to exaggerate the severity of the injury and keep him out of the Olympics by the Hornets’ staff.

  • TommyBoy

He sucks he wasn’t going to make the team anyway.

  • TheWhiteMarkPrice

I wonder if New Orleans will hold him out of Summer League too?

  • D12FSU

    Tyson Chandler

    And so it begins…

Breaking, Anthony Davis would likely struggle for minutes anyway. Chandler and Kevin Love likely all team USA needs down low.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa guys. . .Don’t go throwing out greg oden’s name so fast. . c’mon now. . .you know these things happen,

  • http://slamonline.com Eldon Khorshidi

  • bdogg

come AD …be a man! it is a sprained ankle..play !!! don t be a girlie man! sprained ankle should be a week! very disappointed…do not want LO on the team..this aint good!

  • FnF

Does it even matter who team USA sends? Put Lebron at the 4. Not like Team USA will need him to create offense and lockdown someone. Who needs shot blocking when you can snatch it off the rim?

  • http://www.gil1906.com Pve_2@yahoo.com

I hope Demarcus Cousins gets some consideration and if picked that the work ethics of great players rubs off on him.

    Javale McGee anyone?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Nick Tha Quick

    leave the kid alone.

  • http://www.nba.com Shadojoker

Cosign@Nick on javale …btw…Jordan is lookin pretty smart right now and Hornets are starting to feel Oden-itis

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

    Nike did it.

  • http://www.slamonline.com spit hot fiyah

@bdogg, not all sprained ankles are the same, some cn take more than oi month if they r severe and high on the ankle

  • LA Huey

Can we blame this on the lockout too?

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

Man, this is always the downside of summer: middle schoolers show up and spew whatever crap they want on here. A sprained ankle does not mean he’s Greg Oden. How’d Blake Griffin do after his YEAR LONG injury? Idiots.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Javale McGhee should be kept away from Team USA and the world stage at all cost. We don’t want the rest of the world seeing just how dumb Americans truly are.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

    Co-sign Caboose.

  • Wixurrs

To the Slam kiddies on here an ankle sprain is just as serious as an ACL tear. Stop googling if there’s such thing as microfracture ankle surgery and get back to your summer reading lists.

If this was the season he’d be out 1 week. And like someone said, the Hornets might be keeping him out on purpose.

This is what a consensed schedule does!
    Oh wait..

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

Anthony D. will never play basketball ever again I guarantee it.

  • http://www.nba.com VanCityBBall

    demarcus and hibbert what up?

  • http://thahiphopcorner.com Kevin

@JTaylor21 I actually wouldnt mind seeing Javale McGee mingling with other countries…..im sure some memorable comedic moments could come out of that

  • LA Huey

Actually, word has it that JaVale’s trying to secure a Phillipine passport. The international scene is doomed to see “The Future of the NBA”

  • cbb_fanatic

At first I was depressed in hearing this news, because I wanted him to get to the Olympics just to prove naysayers wrong (but he’s accomplished a lot already so it’s not like he has ANYTHING to prove). But I rather him focus on getting better for the NBA season. He’ll have plenty of chances to participate in the Olympics-to-come, so if he has to sit this one out, it’s alright. I also co-sign @Caboose comment. The best thing about AD is that while other players were TALKING about what they were going to do, he was actually getting it done. So if some “middle schoolers” who can’t tell the real from hype want to TRY (yes, emphasis on TRY) to act like he’s not what people say he is, he’ll have to make it known like he did before. I just want him with Eric Gordon once the regular season starts (hopefully for the summer league too).

  • cball

    deandre
    tyson chandler
    javale
    bynum
    monroe
    horford
    haywood
    joakim noah
    roy hibbert
    brook lopez
    demarcus

  • Billy Hoyle

^ We need joakim noah that guy brings heart and intensity to the table. If we matched him up with deandre jordan or tyson chandler…”block city!!!” (patent pending)

  • Ronald

Noah would be an awesome idea. Except for the fact that he plays for the French national team.

  • The Truther

    Andrew Bynum!

  • robb

Bynum won’t play he’s taking care of his knee. I think Hibbert or even DeMarcus should go. JaVale would embarrass the team internationally.

  • http://slamonline.com Datkid

    I blame addidas personally.

  • http://slamonline.com Datkid

I wanted DMC to go at first too, but NBK explained to me why that was bad. Hibbert would be good but IDK if he’s strong enough to go stop the gasol brothers in the post. greg monroe doesn’t play defense well enough… hmmmm… are Horford and Deandre available?

  • will

    DeMarcus ‘Boogie’ Cousins!!

  • Josh

Yeah Joakim would be a great suggestion if he wasn’t already in the French team, Silly Slammers. Hornets keeping Davis away from Olympics, Ankle Sprain is nothing in comparison to ACL, everyone calm down.

  • Bash

Dude tripped over the mono brow, yeah?

  • kame

Hibbert plays for Jamaica, not US
