Austin Rivers Had Ankle Surgery, Xavier Henry Underwent Knee Surgery

A pair of New Orleans Hornets guards went under the knife, the team announced today. Rookie Austin Rivers had a bone spur removed from his right ankle, and Xavier Henry had arthroscopic right knee surgery to repair a lateral meniscus tear. Per the Times-Picayune: “Both players are expected to be recovered sufficiently to participate in camp, which will commence at the end of September in preparation for the Oct. 31 regular-season opener against the San Antonio Spurs. ‘Austin had a bone spur in his ankle,’ GM Dell Demps said. ‘And the surgery went well today. I’ve been in communication with the doctor who did the surgery and we expect him to be back in time for training camp. We’re not going to rush him back, but we do expect he’ll be ready to play when training camp opens.’ Rivers’ surgery was performed in Boston by Dr. Brian McKeon. Rivers, who is expected to be converted into a point guard this season, was limited to just two games during the Hornets’ five-game Las Vegas summer league schedule because of what was termed lower leg soreness. Rivers averaged 10 points and a team-leading 3.5 assists per game in his two summer league appearances. Henry’s surgery took place in Los Angeles where Dr. Neil ElAttrache repaired the damage. Henry played in all five of the Hornets’ summer league games, averaging 12.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists.”

man, the hornets got anthony “the brow” davis, eric gordon, and ryan anderson….this ain’t a big blow at all. all the necessary pieces are still healthy (knock on wood…lol). that’s all that matters.

    @Bravo I agree

  • cbb_fanatic

It’s too early to talk about ROY, but I honestly think it’s between Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, Bradley Beal, or Jeremy Lamb.

  • http://www.champs.com Reggie06

I think either Damian Lilard or the guy that been smoking crack my man Jeremy Lamb shouldve been top 10 pick

  • Basketball_iQ

Thomas robinson bc of his energy.. damien lillard&terrence ross both have the green light but harrison barnes has freedom from marc jackson to fail or succeed … I think one of these guys will win it

@Reggie06——-LOL. man, raise up off jlamb. he balled out in the summer league with terrence jones and he gone be on when the season starts. he really should’ve been the 10th pick but the coach and gm let their ties to the rivers fam cloud their judgement. they could have done the same thang with jlamb they trying to do with rivers and had a better shooter, but…

^^^^ Austin Rivers will be great, man yall sleep on Rivers, He played at Duke with no big men, imagine if he would have went to Kentucky or NC with their offense, he would have been top 5 pick.

  • patrick

how does one prevent these knee tears??

  • riggs

    not playing ball.

  • mike

why is everyone sleeping on Terrance Jones?

@seed: what does the presence of big men have to do with him shooting in the 20 and 30 percentile? plus he dont pass to anybody anyway! he had players: seth curry (who was featured in slam for being one of the best 3-pt shooters midway through the season), ryan kelly (the maui invitational mvp), and even andre dawkins had big games, balling out at the garden and shooting 7 straight threes in a game (mostly with rivers on the bench, of course). his inconsistencies was masked by his ball-hog nature. so stop making excuses for this guy and tell the truth. he gone have a hard time b/c the hornets (players) are not gone take him affecting their game the way he did duke’s.

@mike i’m not sleeping on jones. he gone be a vital piece to the rockets, but the roy pool is deep. it’s hard to tell if he gone be in the mix right now!

Big men make it easier for slashing lanes and open jumpers. Duke had no big men this year you had to double unlike when Duke had Elton Brand and Carlos Boozer and others. The defenses keyed in on Rivers and he was trying to live up to the high expectations of being the best. Who cares about Kelly, Dawkins, and Curry, now they are overrated. Rivers will be the truth!!!

okay. you going to see what you want to see. just be prepared when he disappoints you again. you need to be realistic. only time will tell, though. we’ll see how duke fairs without rivers (even an admission into sweet 16 will be a step up from last season) and what happens when the ncaa and nba regular seasons start!
