Ben Wallace Will Reportedly Return to the Detroit Pistons

Despite repeatedly claiming that he was ready to retire from the NBA, it’s starting to look as though Ben Wallace will hang around for at least one more season. Reports the Detroit News: “A source close to the situation says that ‘it’s a pretty good chance’ Ben Wallace will return to the Pistons for another season. Wallace, who will turn 38 in September, has been wanted back by the organization since the drafting of Andre Drummond. ‘Me and Ben talk every other day,’ Pistons President Joe Dumars said recently, while intimating he would give Wallace until the opening of training camp to make a decision. Apparently he didn’t wait that long. Wallace is a four-time Defensive Player of the Year and anchored the Pistons title run in 2004. He told many close to him in the final weeks of the 2011-12 regular season he was ready to walk away, although many of his teammates thought he would consider returning.”

    Why? To retire?

Bt?? Why?At the age of 38 this guy still has more defensiv talent and motivation to be better than alot of the young centers in this league.A true warrior and hopefully he teaches Andre Drummond to be an excellent defender.

I have no problem with him sticking around and mentoring the young bigs on that team. He can still defend and he’s a good locker oom presence. He commands respect like no other play on that team. I just hope that Drummond gets his minutes, he needs to get experience. Maybe he can give Drummond some free throw lessons too…hah

so all those fans wore those head bands for your sake last year for nothing?!

  • Orlando Woolridge (RIP)

I didn’t get the feeling that he was a great locker room presence during his time in Chicago.

Ben needs to hang it up and pass his “annoying hustle, endless energy, and rebounding talent” torch to Reggie Evans!

How is resigning a still good defensive center to play spot minutes for the vet minimum (most likely) a bad move? Especially with a few young bigs on the roster.
