Blake Griffin Reportedly Added to Team USA Roster

It’s looking like #LobdonCity for Blake Griffin and Chris Paul this summer. ESPN reports that the Clippers All-Star forward will be part of Team USA’s 12-man roster: “Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin has been elevated to a lock to make Team USA’s Olympic squad, according to sources close to the process, leaving USA Basketball coaches and officials with essentially five players for two remaining roster spots. A rash of injuries and pullouts leading up to this week’s opening of training camp prompted Team USA chairman Jerry Colangelo to say there are nine automatics for the 12-man roster that will be announced Saturday night live on NBA TV: Carmelo Anthony, Kobe Bryant, Tyson Chandler, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Kevin Love, Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook and Deron Williams. Sources told ESPN.com that Griffin quiely has been added to that group as well, leaving five players — Anthony Davis, Rudy Gay, Eric Gordon, James Harden and Andre Iguodala — in contention for the last two roster berths, to be revealed following Saturday’s practice session. One source said Friday that Iguodala and Harden went into camp as the favorites for the last two spots.”

I don’t like this for the lack of any form of interest in playing defence and inability to shoot a basketball he brings.

he does know that there are no refs to baby him in the olympics, right?

Anthony David would be a quality fit. Most people know him as a premier shot blocker which will fit in perfectly with international rules. But he is also a terrific shooter for being 6’10 and he has guard handles. At Kentucky he was limited to more versatile power forward role but in highschool he played like a guard even with he tremendous size and length. Should be interesting to watch I he makes the team.

Good one Vantot… Great move here. His game is the exact opposite of international, but his relentlessness on the boards as well as above the rim is gonna come in handy. Not to mention how thin the frontcourt is minus the small forward position, this dude might shoulder some major responsibility.

we need to get BIGGER!!! sure blake is athletic enough to match up with the euro PF\C’s but demarcus cousins can grow tremendously from an experience like this and so can a young roy hibbert

  • greg

USA will get killed inside by all the BIG pfs and centers. there is less room to drive because of the court size, which is America’s advantage. if they are forced to double down in the post, it could make this a much more difficult tournament than any of these players signed up for.

  • Bola

@ VanCitybbALL you are right on Demarcus Cousins. If only KINGS management knew how to help him make his game better I see him as a good centre in 5 years time. But he has to get his mind right, something i blame on KINGS management. That’s why I give wizards credit. They realise they have a future in Wall and they are doing their best to manage him by removing the weed in the team.

  • JB

Davis’ length and Gay’s shot from the wing get both in.

  • http://slamonline.com Datkid

davis is wayy to skinny for international play IMO.plus he’s still injured. Gay can play the 4 and provides a lot of versatility at the international level but Bc he’s rudy gay I can’t say i’d want him in there over davis. Eric Gordon definitely has to make it tho

    Manure Bowl.

  • LA Huey

I only ask him to do one thing: top what Vince did in Sydney. The real superstars will handle the winning part.
