Boston Celtics, Jason Terry Agree to a 3-Year Deal

According to Yahoo! Sports, Jason Terry (an unrestricted free agent this summer) is on his way to Beantown. Terry has reportedly agreed to a 3-year deal with the Celtics: “The Celtics will use their $5 million mid-level exception to sign Terry. The total value of the contract will be worth more than $15 million. Terry spoke with Celtics president Danny Ainge and coach Doc Rivers on the first day of free agency Sunday. Rivers said he hopes Boston can still re-sign Ray Allen, in addition to adding Terry. The Celtics have also already reached agreement with Kevin Garnett on a three-year, $34 million contract. Free agents can sign contracts on July 11.”

Allen to the Heat…I hope not! Good for Boston tho, better pick up than OJ in my opinion.

Wallace and O’neal were dead before Boston

the beauty of jet on the mavs was that jkidd could guard the kobes, wades, hardens and they would switch roles on offense. in boston, you can’t really do that with rondo. so is he going to guard wade?

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

so where is “basketball iq” and his genius theory about them signing OJ Mayo? man, of all the people on this website who try to portray knowing what they are talking about, that guys opinion (and name) are BY FAR the most ignorant.

  • T-Money

3:42 wasn’t me. slam, step your game up.

A sixth man of the year is always a good add.

  • smoove

@ tmoney well id still rather have jet in front of a Dwade instead of Ray, and not to mention, we are bringing back avery bradley for that task.

  • T-Money

other ppl on here have been talking about OJ going to boston but signing Terry is a much smarter move for them.

  • Ghost361

First off fu** ya click and fu** the fame it’s Boston til we die Or scalabline flies

Celts j terry addition was amazing! Celts 2013 conference final loser

  • T-Money

hell yes ghost. tell em what’s up lmao

^can’t tell if he’s really stupid or just a Boston Native

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

T-Money, if they could have got OJ on the cheap he would have been better, because him, Rajon, & bradley is a nice core of guards for the future. but immediately, i agree, Terry helps more.

  • basketball_iQ

i love this move… i was one of the oj mayo guys becasue hes young and maybe moving forward it would be the best move to me. But as long as we get better is all i care about. Jeff Green is a lock. He wants to prove to the world hes a better player than when he 1st came over for Perk. and i believe he can still be more valuble than Perk in the end.

  • http://www.macknificentcasey.com/ Macknificent31

This move may be the last straw that causes Ray Allen to stray. First the trade talk, then Avery Bradley, now this? It’s a good pick up though for Boston. Terry is a gamer

  • logues

if the celts are healthy next yr (with bradley and green back), with the addition of melo and sullinger, they could still be a championship team, esp if they somehow keep ray ray

  • Basketball_iQ

My name is basketball iQ because ima major student of the game and i can actually play at a high level in real life.
I never knew you could intimidate someone on a computer enough to have them call you out when youre not around.
I respect your opinion and THEN i add what i think about it & the situation slam speaks of.
    Im just a baller bro.

  • Heals

@Mack, if RayRay wanted to be a C, he would’ve, this is a business and he knows it. So does Bos so rather than get caught flat-footed they made their move. Interesting though +; woulda been awesome cause of his age and mentality, plus his weaknesses would be covered up by complimentary players (JGreen, Mayo off the bench, ahh what could’ve been). As for Jet, he fits perfect with this team, it’s just that RayRay fits better in Mia than any of these guys fit in Bos, so they stay one leg up on everybody. Here’s to hopin Jesus settles for the city of Angels…

    nbk… (no basketball knowledge)
34million over 3years is about 11 a season. Thats means, he only accounts for 11million of the 38-40million we have free for this season—leaving us 27million to play with.
Kevin was due 21million before restructuring for these 11million nbk(no basketball knowledge) go add that up AveryBradley is a beast, dont get me wrong, but who said he was the solution of the future at 2?
Just letting him have free reign with no competetion ahead of him or behind him in the gym with him EVERYDAY will make him fat(headed). they will compete for the job if Mayo comes over. Its healthy.
Either way, they will both be winners.
Boston still happens to be losing production since they had Bradley and RayAllen last year. Another guard is in order.
And the argument of being over paid goes both ways.
The winning type dont fall under that criteria and I see Oj as the winning type.
And all that mess about PaulPierce not letting go of the team… were you not watching the last half of the season & playoffs when Ray, Paul, and KG openly ADMITTED they turned the team over to Rondo.
HUSH my child. all is well.
Like i said, those losing franchises have nothing to offer but money. No legacy, no future, no chance of greatness anywhere else but Boston.

  • http://www.forbes.com/teams/miami-heat/ nbk

Quite the change in attitude. Given all your “facts” we’re false and ignorant.

  • Basketball_iQ

Rondo will be finding Terry all over the place for 3.
Everyone saw the way Boston was clicking before Bradley and Ray’s injuries kicked up sand.
Boston is offering Ray 6per but something tells me with this signing, Ray wants to be a starter, maybe. You wont start in Miami and make less tho. idk.

  • B.C.

    Good replacement for Ray Allen.

  • T-Money

3:48 and 3:50 isn’t me either. man, eff this.

    Whats wrong with that?^^^^
    A change in attitude?? STFU
So what I wanted OJ Mayo, hes young, you have to move forward at some point and Ainge has been all on him as a player since he came in.
To me it makes sense and im VERYVERYVERY sure i wasnt the only person on that board who’d welcome OJ MAYO. Hell, he could still come unless someone stupid offers him max money.
I appreciate you being a follower of mine and all but its a lil creepy

@Real T-$$$, at this point I blame those posting more. I’ve had Cab’s, bk’s, and several other commentors names/info show up before I tried to comment and have NEVER once been in such a rush to post that I left their info in place. Folks just look at the damn name, mail, etc. if it’s not yours change it before posting. Simple and plain…

  • Basketball_iQ

Ive followed JasonTerry since his Arizona days where he hit many clutch shots after the MikeBibby championship team.
Hes a good player, a veteran-been here, done that,do it again type player… why would i have a problem with him coming over? He’s had a better career than OJ. Calling me out like you said, GET Jet.
I thought Gordon wouldve been the prize to chase heavy but NO has’em locked in if someone chases.

  • O

Boston can still sign Allen at 6 mill a year for two or three years apparently. Plus Ray is basically guaranteed a starting job over at the Clippers and more money than Miami. Either way, dope pick up for the C’s, man. Just further confirmation that the Knicks will be fighting for their playoff lives this coming season if they don’t sign Nash AND learn how to PASS THE BALL while playing the little bit of defense that their laziness allows them to. If the C’s can keep their veteran core along with Fab, Sullenger – or however you spell dudes name – Jeff Green, Bradley, damn! Heat, Celtics, Nets – so much for the Knicks “resurgence.”

  • http://www.forbes.com/teams/miami-heat/ nbk

Boston has assuming Garnett’s contract is worth about $9.75million (assuming as most veteran deals do, it increases 5% per season), Boston’s payroll is right now Approximately $41.75million with SEVEN players (Rondo, Bradley, Pierce, Garnett, Johnson, Stiemsma, Williams, Moore) with the salary cap at 58.044 that leaves Bowton with almost 17 million (close to $27M but not really) in cap space. You think they want to use around $10M of it on OJ Mayo, in hopes to win a title, fine. Your the one whose name is basketball iQ throwing out a bunch of “facts” – AND you thinking the legacy is more important than the money to many players is cute. When a $50M over 4 year contract gets thrown at OJ Mayo I highly doubt he takes Boston’s 4 year $40M and legacy offer anyway. But if that’s what you know? “they have $27M after $38!! Hahaha $38million dollars? Really? Let’s just look at Paul Pierce’s 2012-13 paycheck to be – ($16,790,345) from the already stated ( ) team Soft Salary Cap what do you have? ($41,209,699) now how in the world is Rajon Rondo still on the roster and they have some what did you say? $38-40M in cap space? for Kevin Garnett and others? Lol, someone doesn’t know what they are talking about. And it’s not the guy boasting about his “iq” in his name. lmao – you got me though “no basketball knowledge” that was catchy in 2007 when I would have just reacted by calling you stupid and not having a very good argument….I’m passed that though.
    .
You facts aren’t factual because you don’t know what your talking about

  • T-Money2

Sorry T-Money I don’t want to confuse ppl. Used my friend’s email for the Davis autographed ball and haven’t changed it on my comp yet. My bad

  • T-Money2

I thought of something quick and simple. Thought it was a lame name actually.. Didn’t know there was a t-money who posted on here lol

good signing…vets love Doc…stay off google, guys..

  • jon92

Sorry, I used my friend’s email on the Davis signed ball contest and never took it off. Didn’t really think it mattered…My friend’s name is Tim so I just thought of a quick and simple name. I actually thought it was pretty lame, didn’t know there was a T-Money who posted on here haha

  • http://www.forbes.com/teams/miami-heat/ nbk

That was my original response to your initial comment, which you clearly didn’t read, considering you are still peddling the same ignorant facts. An if you didn’t want me to call you out, you shouldn’t have made such a spectacle of incorrectly doing so at me. And it’s not being intimidated, it’s just setting the record straight.

were they gonna find minets for ray, bradly, and terry

  • Bernie

Anyone else think Boston is pretty set for next year? I thought their roster last year was poo and they were one win from the finals

  • http://thahiphopcorner.com Kevin

As a Spurs fan and Mavs hater i’ve always despised Jason Terry and respected him at the same time. Good move for Boston

  • Heals

As a C’s fan I’ve just come to grips with RayRay in Mia; the hoops fan in me supercedes it and with SugarRay in South Beach the rivalry between these “crews” will be awesome for the next 2-3 years…

  • LA Huey

Nice. Doesn’t matter where Ray lands, this rivalry will still be played at a high level. That’s all hoops fans can ask for.

  • The Great Mambino

What a coup for the Celtics. I think the most important number is 28: that’s the number of games that Jason Terry has missed in his CAREER. He’s been very consistent, scoring 16 points over his Mavs career (most of it off the bench) and most importantly, been very very healthy. For a C’s team that needs an extra scoring punch off the bench and someone who can just show up throughout 82+ games, a great signing for a relatively low price. We wrote a little more here: http://thegreatmambino.blogspot.com/2012/07/instant-trade-analysis-jason-terry-to.html

maybe they should trade bradely while hes a commodity, and reup on ray ray,
a crunchtime lineup of rondo ray jet paul and kevin is pretty damn good to me

Nbk trolling hard this round. Opinions-as I’m sure you know- aren’t factual. Randomly calling out a dude for making a couple errors seems a bit too petty, especially when you are usually insightful rather than abrasive.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

Basketball IQ is so named because his actual IQ is his scoring average.

  • Ernie D

Great Pickup for Boston. Ray Allen seemed to be annoyed with the fast that Bradley was starting, and was uncomfortable coming off the bench. I don’t see him coming back to Boston, because of that fact alone. He wants to start for another contender. Terry has a history of coming off the bench to light it up, and that is what Boston needs. Let Ray go, and keep Brandon Bass (another bench guy, who can start as well). Not sure about Jeff Greene, because he still hasn’t proven he can flourish in Doc’s system. I would rather keep Chris Wilcox, because he’s another bench guy who was able to step in when needed, and give them rebounding and points.

I doubt Jesus Shuttlesworth Stays now. . .

Great pick up…AND no one was bashing Ray’s D when he wasn’t hurt. I want hm back and those who
