Chicago Bulls to Sign Nate Robinson on 1-Year Deal

Chicago Bulls fans have been in an understandably foul mood all summer long, but Nate Robinson will soon arrive to provide some laughs. And presumably, to play a little ball as well. Per SI: “The deal, which agent Aaron Goodwin said should be finalized ‘barring unforeseen problems,’ will likely pay the eight-year veteran the veteran’s minimum of $1.2 million for next season. Robinson, who regained his form as a reserve for Golden State last season after playing just four games in the second half of the 2010-11 campaign with Oklahoma City, will join veteran point guard Kirk Hinrich in the Bulls’ Derrick Rose-less backcourt after his recent return. Hinrich, who signed a two-year, $8 million deal last week with the Bulls, spent his first seven seasons in Chicago before he was traded to Washington in June 2010 and later traded to Atlanta in Feb. 2011. [...] Robinson, the 5-foot-9 guard who is still best known for his three All-Star Slam Dunk Contest championships, averaged 11.2 points (42.4 percent shooting overall), 23.5 minutes, 1.2 steals and a career-high 4.5 assists per game with Golden State last season. If the signing does indeed take place, this will be the 28-year-old’s fifth team since the 2009-10 campaign after he played previously with New York, Boston, Oklahoma City, and the Warriors.”

    better than nothing. Welcome nate

He can provide some of that toughness in the backcourt the Bulls will lack with D-Rose being out. Good move by the Bulls.

At this rate Nate should just sign 1 year deals until he’s played for every team in the league.

  • pposse

Shoutouts to D Rose, that player nice!

  • LA Huey

    Poor man’s Spud Webb

Nice move, a bunch of 1 year contracts, not a bad move.

  • phil da windmill

dude is no spud webb or mugsy bogues he’s a side show

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgvwfvTcNl0 danpowers

he can provide some nice energy boost / scoring punch off the bench if coach lets him do that. if not, he is just a mediocore roleplayer

The Bulls really are trying to be no better than a 7 seed or worse than 9th in the East.

  • ab40

nbk, don’t forget they played mostly eastern conference last season. Because there is no way in hell that Indiana was the fifth(?) best team in the league last year. The west is still loaded and the east is still worse. The gap is getting closer but even in the new era there will be “superteams” 2 to 4 a year and they’ll reign supreme.

Solid player. Don’t care whatchu say.

  • crooklyn

@philthewindmill, you buggin’, comparing him to 2 good players who gave about as much to a team as ” nate the great” does. Maybe if you said tiny archibald or someone of that quality…

  • Otero

Y’all don’t no basketball he’s solid off the bench and every time he’s given a chance he produces had a good season with GS last year thought he’d get a longer contract somewhere

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    ab40 – ? i don’t understand why you said that.
    .
Lake – you are right, but it doesn’t really change anything for them. it just more or less solidified where they are in the conference.

Hey you don’t know what will happen, look at the Knicks on paper last year. A team on paper doesn’t necessarily mean it will be good or bad. Let the season start to pass judgement. But I do agree on paper the team is just so & so. But I suggest you keep an eye on Jimmy Butler.

Why so much hate for Nate? People need to watch the games and think for themselves instead of buying into this B.S. media narrative that he’s a bad teammate. He’s instant energy and toughness–things the Bulls could use without the MVP.

I like the move. In the right system he can flourish. Remember he was a key part in that championship run the Cs had two years ago.

Nate cool….can be very explosive at times.

  • http://Slamonline.com IMPALA T

Dude in my opinion is better than spud webb in almost any category, but mugsy was a better player due to how he ran his teams as a floor general. Nate will have another solid year in ChiTown

  • bike

You have to hand it to Nate. He does pretty dam well for a guy 5’9″. I mean, how in the world does he even get a shot off?

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

I had a feeling uriNATE Robinson might be on his way out after G.S. picked up Jack.. Im not gonna say theres beef, but I don’t think the 2 really like each other..

  • Bernie

The bulls looking real good this season hahahah

  • LA Huey

bike, by shooting at the wrong basket

  • http://www.slamonline.com nbk Troll

Nate Robinson will never get a long term deal again. @least not in the NBA. unless he has a remarkable season! GM’s just dont trust him

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

I’d feel bad for the Bulls if they weren’t the Bulls…

  • LA Huey

    I hear you, Wayno. LOL

  • bigA

I feel like he is being underpaid for an NBA player. He deserves a longer contract.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

Next season should prove if Thibs really is as good a coach as most of the media thinks he is.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Caboose
That doesn’t make sense. Doc Rivers had a horrible record with bad talent. When he got great talent, he won a championship.
    What was proven?
