Clippers, Blake Griffin Agree to 5-Year, $95 Million Contract Extension

The Los Angeles Clippers and forward Blake Griffin have agreed to a five-year-contract extension, with incentives bringing the deal to $95 million. ESPN.com has the details: “The extension had been expected as sources had told ESPNLosAngeles.com earlier this month that Griffin had informed team officials that he intended to sign an extension with the club. Griffin could earn as much as $95 million over the course of the five-year extension if he is voted an All-Star starter again or named to a second All-NBA team next season under the so-called ‘Derrick Rose Rule’ in the new collective bargaining agreement. The rule allows a player finishing his rookie contract to make 30 percent of a team’s salary cap — up from 25 percent — if he’s twice been voted an All-Star starter, twice been voted All-NBA or won an MVP award. Under another clause in the new CBA, rookies may extend their contracts by four years. However, a team may designate one player to sign a five-year extension.”

The thing with Blake is i think he will be the same player his whole career. Will always rely on his athleticism and will not develop his jumper.

good move by the clips, he has a very high ceiling, still has som many parts of his game underdeveloped, IF he develops them it will be scary

Getting better on D needs to be his #1 priority…he’s still putting up great ffensive numbers despite the holes in his game. His defense in non-existant though.

The money the Clips will make from marketing BG > $95 million over 5 years. It’s a revenue generating move, not a basketball personnel move.

Blake griffin is great but he’s no superstar. Good for him and the clips. His knees will last about 4-5 more years and then his career will be pretty much over with. It’s weird to think bout because kobe’s career could end just the year before that…

BG is one of the most exciting players to watch in the L. I hope he takes this money as the teams investment in him to grow and become a better “all around” player. 3 things. 1. Defense 2. Low post 3. Mid range jumper. He is a beast now. But adding those things each and every year would have him in talks with the elite PF’s. Congrats on the dough!

Y’all remember when they said some dude named Shaq couldn’t do ish but dunk? Did he ever accomplish anything in his career?

  • Donte

This man avg’d 20pts a game with no real post moves,,, that’s scary.

Shaq was also a great center you can’t compare the 2, what Shaq did Bg can never do.

Way too much money for Blake Griffin, for now. He’s only going to get better with his post moves, shooting will take some time, he’s just got to instantly improve his defence.
