Darko Milicic Waived By the Minnesota Timberwolves

The immortal Darko Milicic, the number two overall NBA Draft pick in 2003 (word to Joe Dumars!), is currently unemployed. The Timberwolves released Darko via the amnesty clause today. Per the Star Tribune: “The one-time amnesty provision allows a team to waive a player and not have his salary count against the salary cap or luxury tax. Milicic spent parts of three seasons as Minnesota’s starting center, averaging 7.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks over 122 games, including 110 starts with the Wolves.”

Please make it through Waivers so you can join the Heat.
#1, #2, #4, #5 all from the same draft on the same team? That’s AWESOME.

Hope the Spurs try to get this guy. Might not be the best big man but he could be huge help

Reporter: Darko, what do you do with your NBA paychecks?
    Darko: I keep them.
Reporter: What do you mean? You save the money?
    Darko: I keep them.
Rasheed: Stop asking, man! Darko is a Serbian gangster!

I wonder if he would have got drafted by another team that would have allowed him to play as a rookie, what he would be like today? I think Larry Brown was the worst thing that happened to him.

  • RunNGun

@MikeC. That reminds me of this little number from Darko… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woWqSmichOo He only he played like this during his stops in Detroit, Orlando, Memphis, New York, and Minnesota…

  • bravo

    lmao he is still playing?

  • jinolin

Wouldn’t mind him in NYK or MIA would be a nice fit as well.

I wonder the same thing Fresh, he isn’t actually THAT bad. Obviously he’s terrible for a number 2 pick but, he’s not THAT bad, could’ve turned out really differently for him, same with Michael Olowokandi too.

But he got his money first. Darko has been stealing money for YEARS! Smart dude.

@LA – are you pulling a reverse Kahn with that one?

  • riggs

looking like a tall christian bale

I’d take him on the Bulls as a back up center if Rockets follow through on giving Asik that crazy contract.

Houston’s next starting centre???? This just got serious.

I like Darko’s game, he showed some flashes of brilliance in his first year in Minnesota, then he got injured and Pekovic emerges. With the RIGHT coach, this kid can be good. I also named my son after him, so I believe in this guy.

  • http://whut Ugh

He showed flashes of brilliance everywhere. So did I. I’m not an NBA centre either.

  • Marc

    Miami perfect fit.

  • Jose

Haha NBK’s first comment. That would be EPIC!

MikeC, now I’ll start comparing him to CWebb

  • startown

Really, I watched almost every TWolves game, you do not want this guy. He is lazy, bad hands, terrible shot beyond 8 feet, I’m excited to see him off our bench.

Rubio fed him some absolute perfect passes and he could not catch them.
