Delonte West Staying With Mavericks on 1-Year Deal

Dallas will retain free agent guard Delonte West, who agreed to a one-year deal. Per the Star-Telegram: “Delonte West reached an agreement Tuesday on a one-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks, according to a team source. The Mavs had been holding out hope that they could come to terms with West, the primary backup to Jason Kidd last season. The re-signing of West gives the Mavs some veteran stability at point guard behind Darren Collison – he was acquired in a trade with the Indiana Pacers earlier this month – and rookie Jared Cunningham. With West on board, the Mavs now have 14 players under contract, one below the NBA maximum.”

Glad to see this guy is not in jail or bouncing around Europe. Could have been an All-Star if he didn’t have mental issues

Should have went to the Lakers, Mavericks are over.

    Veteran, yes; stability…no

Unless it’s NBA2K, you don’t sign this guy to a multi-year deal. Solid player though.

Mavs now have 8 guards. Not just “can play guard” players. 8 PGs or SG’s. Talk about a log jam.

*8 PG/SG players. Not ‘or’, sorry.

@The seed – no way he was going to the Lakers. Mike Brown under utilized him badly in Cleveland, especially during the 2010 playoffs when He was outplaying Mo “Regular Season” Williams and still wasn’t getting minutes

@Chris: You beat me to it. Always pulling for REDZ tho.

BT: Your right, but West coming off the bench to relieve Mamba would have been great. I like West’s game its versatile.

West is one of the best back up PG/SG’s in the L. Part of it being his defensive toughness. Another part being his different style. He plays his pace and goes to his places on the court without a crazy first step. Solid veteran player. Enjoyed him on the Sonics for half a year. His jersey was like 15 bucks and I didn’t snag it at the Sonics “going away party.” My bad on that. Redz is dope.

Ups, Lakers still waiting forvHoward and seeing useful and cheap players gone. And with Blake and Josh still in the roster. Great Mitch.

Was hoping he’d join the Heat. Sounds like the Mavericks are the new Timberwolves. With all the PG acquisitions, you’d think David Kahn was the general manager. LOL
