Denver Nuggets Waived Chris ‘Birdman’ Andersen, Signed Anthony Randolph

As the Birdman continues to face legal issues, the Denver Nuggets used the amnesty provision to waive him, and signed mercurial free agent forward Anthony Randolph to replace him. Per the Denver Post: “The Nuggets cut Chris ‘Birdman’ Andersen and signed in his place free agent Anthony Randolph, a source said Tuesday. The team used the NBA’s amnesty clause to waive Andersen, a source said. Randolph, a power forward and center, averaged 7.4 points and 3.6 rebounds in 34 games for the Minnesota Timberwolves last season. He made five starts. Over four NBA seasons, including stops with the New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors, he has averaged 17.6 minutes, 8.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Each team is allowed to use its amnesty clause once during this new collective bargaining agreement. The team still has to pay the player the money on the contract — Andersen is due to make around $4.5 million next season and $4.8 million in 2013-14 — but it doesn’t affect the team’s overall salary cap.”

whatever happened to the Birdman investigation that started in the playoffs?

  • V

ditto kh, anyone got a link or update on that birdman nonsense? that was a wild story during the playoffs. i can’t find any updates on it.

Well to be fair, he’s never been given a solid shot at a starting position. He always gets a surly coach(Don Nelson) or get stuck playing behind an established star(Kevin Love). I think he should do well in Denver as long as they give him the right opportunity to flourish. That being said, he probably should have gone to Europe instead.

I forgot about Birdman’s crazy legal stuff.

Yes! I pumped up about this move. Anthony Randolph is better and younger than the bird man which makes us that much deeper. Now we dont have to play timofey mozgov or 2k as the backup center because Anthony Randolph can play the center pos. But this this mean Quincy miller donst make the team?

Anthony Randolph is the guy that looks like E.T., right?

^ shouldn’t put that claim on anyone without proof. Randolph is a good pick up tho. Denver will be legit this year top 4 of west. OKC LAL DEN LAC!!!

Even if Denver was some how able to grab the 4th seed (highly (highly) unlikely, or as you claimed the 3rd seed lol) they aren’t going anywhere in the playoffs. Sorry.

Always liked Anthony Randolph. Has never got a great chance I remember that his 36 min per game stats were really great a few drains back but he has never been given A chance. I hope he can get given a decent chance to flourish. Also a shame about the whole Bird man saga………
