Deron Williams Announces Via Twitter He Will Re-Sign With Brooklyn Nets

After narrowing his choices to the Dallas Mavericks and Brooklyn Nets, All-Star point guard Deron Williams met with both teams on Monday and vowed to have a decision soon thereafter. Tuesday evening he revealed his choice via Twitter in one simple tweet, which you can see below. Sam Amick of SI.com reports the deal for DWill to stay in BK is for 5 years, and worth roughly $100 million.

Smart move by Deron. Nets have a future, as crazy as it sounds. Anyone else hear the rumors of a 3-team trade with Orlando, Brooklyn, and LA?

  • RKJ92

Wow Nice! Can You Say Contenders?

I Only Hope My Raptors Can Contend One Day Soon Aswell :(

  • Tyquez foster

They bout to win next year dwill joe and they still can get Howard

  • Tyquez foster

So if Dwight doesn’t work out, which it’s like it won’t – Willaims, Johnson, Wallace, Humphries and Lopez? Not bad at all…

  • LA Huey

    This Knicks-Nets rivalry is set.

  • O

That Brooklyn bullsh*t, we on it…

  • http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine VanCityBBall

imagine IF the Clippers do better than the Lakers and the Nets do better than the Knicks… i cant wait (already) for the season to start!

    HOP on the BANDWAGON quick!!
    Take my hand!

  • Sérgio

Caboose, how’d this 3 team deal be?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Dagger

As great as this is for the Nets, it might be equally bad for the Mavs. With Terry gone, who do they have? Will they even make the playoffs next year?

  • Drew

As a side note, Chris Broussard is a clown for tweeting that “sources told him that D-Will was signing with the Nets” 5 minutes after D-Will himself tweeted decision.

  • http://www.xvideos.com keep it real

    Lmao Brooklyn is a joke.

  • http://www.xvideos.com Bravo

@jtaylor2……lmao I see you copying my comment

  • Ldub

Hopefully the Nets dont try and trade for DH this year. Keep the players you have now. They have already given up so much. Then try and sign DH next year.

  • RunNGun

Good move… now for D12 to be traded to the Nyets.

  • Jake

I actually don’t mind this super team, but I don’t know why… they just don’t seem threatening.

  • bravo

@JAKE….yeah i agree on paper it sounds good but i doubt they do damage like the heat

  • Dagger

This is nowhere close to a super team without Howard. Maybe that’s why they don’t seem threatening . . . .

  • MirChilly

Maybe because none of their players are super… Seems like the nets is poised to be the new mets. Signing 2nd tier “great players” to keep headlines

  • http://www.rich-imaging.com Dutch Rich

    Today was a good day
    Deron Williams
    Joe Johnson
    Gerald Wallace
    Kris Humpries
    Brook Lopez
    2nd unit:
    Tyshawn Taylor
    MarShon Brooks
    Mirza Teletovic
    Reggie Evans
    Al Thornton

We can definitely bruise up any team in the east now.

  • Shem

Had the Nets been in the West, I would consider them a poor team to compete for a championship. However, this is the East and there isn’t an elite duo of big men. Do not say Hibbert and West. This team can compete regardless of the fact that Lopez and Humphries/cheap replacement are paired together. Crash definitely adds to the front lines rebounding and defense.

  • Ghost361

Nets shouldn’t trade for Dwight. They got perfect depth with this team. Dwight takes too much from nets.

  • logues

Ghost361: if the nets serioulsy want to be contenders, they need to trade for dwight. right now they can’t hang with the heat, celtics, or bulls(if rose is healthy). this current team will help sell tickets, but wont win anything

  • http://slamonline Jimbo

Well there is an elite duo of big men in the East… Andrea Bargnani and Jonas Valanciunas!!!!!!!!

  • http://www.bloghoggers.com bloghogger

“we” & “nets” in one comment. never thought i’d see the day

  • MeloMan15

Brooookllynnnn!!! But I’m really happy for dwill, this is the best team he’s ever had (utah had a good system, not much talent though) He’s gunna prove to everyone why he’s the best pg in the game

  • Ill Smith

Where Brooklyn at?!!!? Getting a thorough ass whooping in the 2nd round fr the next 5 years.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Brooklyn is looking good… I’ve been a Knicks fans since I was 6 but the Nets have a sweet roster. No shame in supporting both New York teams.
Usually what I do with the Giants/Jets and Mets/Yankees is I cheer for both but favor the team that’s doing better. Hmm…

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

@ Omar: Who you gonna root for when it’s Knicks/Nets? And what about Spike Lee??? Sh!t is about to hit the fan.

  • https://pointingnofingers.wordpress.com twinparadox

I just wanted to comment on the 2nd string player Teletovic…
Sounds like a serbian electrical repairing company…

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

“Nets” is quite literally the worst team name in sports history though. Such a boring and obvious name. It actually kind of makes me angry. Okay second worst name behind the Bobcats (which are cool animals, but terrible name for an NBA team due to the though of BET).

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Deron Williams can go 69 with Dwight Howard. LIKE A BOSS

  • https://pointingnofingers.wordpress.com twinparadox

@Teddy: They have the worst logo too

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

It’s funny and sad at the same damn time that the Nets will be better than the Knicks during their first season in NY.

  • ado

so is jason kidd joinin the nets too?

  • ron wealsy

Kris Humphries is leaving for sure though

  • http://www.yahoo.com The Fury

NETS Champs by 2015, count on it. (predicting the next cover for SLAM after the Finals issue.)

Next year’s NBA Finals- Nets Vs. Mavericks

  • Wil

Brooklyn is looking good. Not sure I would mess with Howard either. Win and attract good players.

Next year’s Finals: NO vs. Minny

  • jufu

finally my team is once again a contender! miss you petrovic, kidd, van horn, rj, kerry, kmart!

  • O

Cosign Teddy, Nets is such a weak name for a team. Bobcats is up there as is Wizards. Brooklyn shouldve just jacked Washingtons old name and been the Brooklyn Bullets. Stereotypical? Maybe. But its better than the Nets. And yeah, Knicks aint looking good. Nash aint coming, Knicks aint matching any backloaded contracts Lin is gonna get offered, and their plan B’s are hella wack. Knicks are gonna be fighting for they playoff lives this year, man. Just glad these Nets is repping my borough instead of Long Island or something…

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

Redd: A Finals with 2 Western Conference teams? The East isn’t that bad, bro.

  • Niio

Nice, I’ve been a Nets fan since they traded Marbury for Kidd. And once Kidd left they been pretty sorry since. Remember how everyone was jumping for joy when Kidd got traded for Harris straight up? I wasn’t lol Now I am. We may not be championship material just yet but we are at least contenders!

  • Niio

Also I think the East is scarier than the West. In the West the power teams are Spurs and Thunder, in the East there’s the Bulls, Heat, Celtics and now Brooklyn..

  • Byebye

The nets are ok they wil be the 5 th seed at best don’t forget they don’t play any defense

  • Allenp

Everyone they have on the roster is capable of playing defense. In fact Lopez is the only bad defender. Deron, Joe and Wallace are all high level defenders and Reggie defends too.

  • Righteous

Nets have the potential to become a big threat with D. Williams, Joe Johnson, Reggie Evans, and maybe Dwight Howard. If we don’t get D12, then we’d still have Lopez, Humphries, and Brooks. Looking good, Brooklyn.
