Dwight Howard Expects His Back to Be Healthy for Start of the Season

The rumor mill continues to work overtime on the Dwight Howard trade front, but while no one knows for sure where the big fella will be hooping next season, Howard tells the LA Times that he will be ready to go come opening night: “Dwight Howard stood outside a Dodger Stadium suite Tuesday night trying to decide what to eat off the dessert cart. He took forever, and when he began to recite out loud, ‘eeny, meeny, miny, moe,’ I asked him if that was how he was going to pick where he played. He mimicked as if he would, saying ‘this team and that team,’ but unfortunately stopping when his attention returned to the desserts. [...] A fan yelled to Howard, ‘Are you coming to L.A.?’ And Howard replied with the consent of his security guard, ‘I’m here now.’ He paused, and then added, ‘to rehab.’ I asked about his back, which he had surgically repaired, and he said he will be fine for the start of the season, but he said he could not talk about basketball. What else would you want to talk to Howard about? A few minutes later the Dodgers showed Howard on the big screen in left field eating his dessert. He drew considerable applause, and I wonder what the reaction would be if they showed Andrew Bynum on the big screen. The word around the Lakers earlier in the day was the team might know by Wednesday whether there is any reason to pursue Howard.”

  • just the facts

I have never seen anyone self destruct so quickly as howard. Dwight obviously is still very inmature and is listening to the wrong people. I could care less if he stays or goes but at this..going is the way.

nbk, well, if you give that tweet any credibility you have to consider the rest of what he’s saying. I’m not sure.

those weren’t tweets. those were direct messages, that who he was messaging leaked.

the reason i give those credibility over the public comments is because he’s not trying to save his image in a private message (or i assume so) – there is less of a filter on his words. if you will

D-12 just needs to shut the hell up and just be ready by the start of the season to come play basketball. The rest of that stuff will work itself out. You’ve already said enough!

I’ve always felt the Orlando’s reported threat to “trade him the Lakers unless he picked up his option” was weak at best. Seemed like there had to be more to it.

i still think that’s the closest story to the truth about why he signed the extension.

His playful mindset towards playing ball showed a pure weakness and flaw in him that says he can’t get it done… Smiling & grinning, everybody else growling showing their teeth taking it straight to your weakaz chest… 2face-az

Howard likes it long and hard. He takes it eagerly is what I’m saying. This is coming from a lifelong Laker fan.

Dwight needs older players with bigger egos than him i.e. Kobe/Nash. Dwight is too hot headed has always been the “MAN” since he got drafted by Orlando in 2004. He should go to L.A. in two years he will be 27 in his prime and Kobe will be Done. Dwight Howard in LA would be so insane It’s like Joe Montana For the jets. Defensive Dwight would slowly progress under the lakers organization they love their big men.
