Dwight Howard Told the Orlando Magic Once Again That He Wants to Be Traded

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

Rob Hennigan, the Orlando Magic’s new general manager, is doing his best to try and convince Dwight Howard to stay. Um, it’s not working out too well for Hennigan. To say the least.

According to numerous published reports, Dwight Howard re-iterated his desire to play for another team in a meeting with the Magic’s front-office on Wednesday in Los Angeles.

Howard reportedly has the LA Lakers, Brooklyn Nets and the Dallas Mavericks (next summer) on his list of desired teams, since he — quite rightfully — doesn’t believe Orlando has a clear plan to contend for an NBA championship.

From RealGM:

Hennigan’s pitch to Howard had a heavy focus on the two men developing a relationship that would be valuable to the Magic moving forward. He expressed a sincere interest in getting to know the six-time All-Star and working with him to improve the team. Howard, however, was expecting an outline of how the team planned to improve and get back to a championship-contending level, something he didn’t receive during the hour-long meeting, according to sources. Howard was staunch in his stance and again made it clear to Hennigan that he has no desire to return to Orlando. He told the 30-year-old general manager that he would “never sign another contract with the Magic,” according to sources.

During the meeting, Howard informed Hennigan that he would be willing to re-sign with the Lakers at the end of the 12-13 season if the two teams were able to complete a trade. The scenarios Howard was open to during the meeting were: An immediate trade to the Lakers, a January trade to the Brooklyn Nets or a clean break at the end of the 2012-13 season. But he was clear that he would not return to the Magic, choosing to leave as a free agent after the season, sources said. Hennigan informed Howard that he didn’t have any deals in the works and wasn’t quite sure how to respond to what he was told, according to sources. Hennigan was noncommittal on any of the discussed scenarios as the meeting ended.

It’s a no-win situation for all involved: Dwight Howard is frustrated with the Magic’s questionable handling of his situation, Orlando quite understandably wants to retain the franchise center (or get an incredible package of players in return if they trade him), and fans and media are left with no choice but to patiently wait it all out.

What an ugly, interminable mess this is.

Dwight it’s this simple; no comment…

this stuff annoys me even though im neither a magic, nor nets, nor lakers fan. that one year contract extension was the worst thing that could happen to the magic, they shouldve shipped him during last season. they will never get an equal worth in return, just live with it, collect picks, tank one or two years and then put up another decent team. is it that difficult my god…

Why does K Love roll instead of pop when setting a pic? If he popped wouldnt it put him in a better position to score as well as open the spacing for team USA?

  • T-Money

heals – how can he have no comments when orlando flies across the country to meet with him. the better question would be: how many times does he have to tell them the same thing?

  • Jer dawG

I’m in Los Angeles and a supporter of local teams. I am 100% sick of Dwight. I know even if he winds up on Lakers I know we will all love him IF Lakers win. But right now he can go to hell

  • cal

The Magic have been are coming across as totally blind to what a toxic situation this is.

  • D

It’s a good thing This clown doesn’t have to live in the real world and work a real job

  • cal

The Magic *have been asking for too much in a trade. They’re acting like they’ve got all the time in the world to trade Dwight.

Howard informs them that he expects ORL to surround him with championship pieces and they resign Jameer Nelson?
Both sides are to blame for this debalce. Orl for continuing to baby a player that obviously doesn’t want to be there anymore and Howard for failing to make up his mind.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

The NBA is make believe? Who knew.

  • ALD

The Magic organization is bad. If someone tells, you multiple times that they want to leave, why would you convince that person to a one year deal.. Dwight should have stuck to his guns but w.e Ppl found someone new to hate on rather than fixing their own problems.

  • pposse

dwight should have kept it real last feb when he could have opted out instead of signing that one year extension. There is no way he looked at himself in the mirror in those months and seen himself staying with the Magic. He balked, now he gets chastised from the media; seems fair enough.

D12′s really destroying his reputation and may supercede LBJ and Kobe as biggest douche in the NBA. D12 used to be a very likable and humble guy but he’s got all the wrong people surrounding him (off-the-court influences) and telling him to do this and that. Regardless of what D12 has said above, if I were Hennigan, I would ship him outright to Houston and start the rebuilding process. Houston is more than happy to receive him even if he doesn’t sign an extension…

    Barf….no more Dwight talk!

I want to see him this whole season with the magic and see how awkward the crowd will react the first home game.

  • ksupreme

Its like SLAM wants to piss us off with Dwight news…how many times do we need to hear about something we already know

  • MikeC.

There has to be a team willing to take Dwight for a year just to sell tickets and merchandise. Somewhere he absolutely doesn’t want to go. Milwaukee, Sacramento, Charlotte come to mind. If they have players on one or two year contracts to send back, punish Dwight by sending him somewhere he doesn’t want to go. Or let him walk as a FA. There’s no rule that says they have to accomodate his whiny wishes. Let him walk and use the cap room to start over. Let him lose his Bird rights and leave millions on the table. Does he want to play in BK or LA badly enough to sign for the veteran’s exception?

    3. Post comment about how tired you are of this kind of Dwight Howard-related news.
    4. Fail to realize the irony of your actions and provide lulz for those who do.

  • Alford

The saddest thing is that fans will voting him again as a All-Star starter. Howard is an idiot but the fans also. Send him all the year to Nbdl.

    @alford you need a girl

I’m getting so sick of this. I really hope Howard gets the Lebron treatment for a long time after this: he deserves it so much more. A*%hole!

Note to self … “Never take dating advice from the Orlando Magic.”

  • SeanMagicJuan

Is Kobe, Dwight, Nash, World Peace, and Gasol a better starting lineup than OKC’s? I still think that they’re too slow on the perimeter but Dwight automatically adds toughness.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

What is stupid is all of the idiots who clicked this article, didn’t read it, and still commented by complaining about Howard. If you don’t want to hear about Dwight Howard wanting a trade, then tell Orlando to stop asking and most importantly, stop telling the media every time they get told the same damn thing. How would you like to hear your sister tell you about all the times she has been turned down by her ex boyfriend? I bet not many. And I bet you sure wouldn’t be getting mad at the dude for saying no to your desperate sister.

  • NetsRTakingOver

Ok now this is on Orlando, they have asked him to stay for like the 10th time, that 85 year old Devos owner just can’t seem to let him go.

  • alex80

    send his azz to europe

  • IGGI

The Magic are to blame for all of this, how many time DH have to tell them the same thing “”"I WANT TO BE TRADED NOW”"” but Orlando seems to think that he will changes his mind again, if I was the owner I would fire the GM. The Nets were offering Lopez plus a bunch of other players. They could have gotten Scola from the Rockets, but the Magic are so stupid.

  • http://www.hoopsworld.com IamYOU

    Umm…WHO’s DWIGHT HOWARD AGAIN?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

Both the magic and howard are idiots.

He’s comin to the Cavs. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

“I wanna be traded, actually no I wanna stay in Orlando, actually no I wanna be traded, actually only to the Brooklyn Nets, actually I’d play for the Lakers, actually wait no I’ll stay in Orlando, actually just kidding trade me to Dallas.” So sick of this

  • Ann

    NOOOO this i news

  • http://www.twitter.com/Mavus15 Mavus

So quick to blame Dwight I see.. but ORL for a second season hasn’t signed another high level player to play with Dwight. What moves have they made? Keep in mind, the one player who got better Ryan Anderson is gone.. biggest pick up the last 2 years: Big Baby? We don’t know what Dwight was promised which made him re-sign that dumb 1-yr deal but at least he stayed with his team.. You same guys that killed LeBron for leaving flat out in the off-season, are killing a guy who gave his team one more year to make something happen!!!

  • bike

Orlando should try some reverse psychology. Hennigan should sit down with Dwight and tell him “Orlando can’t stand you, we want your azz out of Dodge, you suck anyway, you big immature prima donna you. Sure, you may come to our town and drop 30 and 20 on us, but we don’t care. We will boo your n*gaa azz out of the building you disgusting pice of sh*t.”

  • http://www.slamonline.com nbk Troll

^^^^ ask Dan Gilbert how that method works…. This whole saga is funny as hell. Im sure it will end in badly for all parties.

  • Jose

I say Tyson Chandler for The Next All-Star Game’s starting center, don’t let Dwight get it!

  • pposse

in this day and age you can’t just wait for your superstar player to sign a long term deal. You have to start building around them right away and hope they resign with you! Once you try and practice smart business and wait for the superstar to sign long term before you build around him is the exact moment these guys will throw a hissy fit.

  • IGGI

@MAVUS—Man that was well said!!! I agree, thanks for keep it real…

  • http://www.slamononline.com Redd

After I read those DMs from Dwight, I believe D12 didn’t do anything wrong and wants this over just as much as the next guy.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

    *yawn*

  • Heals

True T$$$, I was jus kinda saying big picture DH12 keeps complicating matters by going public (not so much this instance, just overall) with what he feels at the moment…

  • jbeee

This report originated with realgm, which, if you recall, is D12′s buddy.real gm is the one that broke the story last year regarding D12 staying. So IMO it seems that Dwight is the one blabbing his mouth. He hasn’t shown his face in Orlando since having surgery, rehab should have allowed him to return home after a few weeks.

  • http://Slamonline.com Black Mamba

I’m torn as to whether I want this guy on the Lakers. I mean, if he stays long term then yes, go for it. But Bynum is developing nicely, and he wants to be here. And to the commenter that is “nbk” I found out last night that your troll is my brother. I’ve made him stop immediately, so you won’t have this problem again. He apologizes and says he was just fooling around. I don’t condemn what he did and understand the insults to my family were out of rage because of what he was doing to you. Best of luck with you and your lady. My Grandma has diabetes and it’s tough so I get what you’re going through.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

I meant no offense to you, was just pushing his buttons as he was trying to push mine. I appreciate it man.

  • http://Slamonline.com Black Mamba

^no problem. I understand completely. I’m relatively new at commenting but I’ve always read the threads and have a lot of respect for your opinion. I always got annoyed when some stupid troll screwed up all the threads. He has to know that doing that is not ok. I was trolled on another website once and I did the same things you did so I understand why you did them. It’s annoying and I get that. I bare no grudge and cannot apologize enough for this whole mess.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

It’s not too big of a deal. He just prevented discussions from taking off, or killed those that were in progress. But regardless, I appreciate you stepping in.
