John Wall Says It’s ‘Time to Be an All-Star’

You can continue to laugh, but John Wall still believes his Wizards can make the Playoffs next season. Not only that, Wall plans to make the All-Star team as well. From Hoopshype (via DC Sportsbog): “I’m very confident,’ Wall said. ‘I mean, the organization, the general manager, the owner and the coaching staff are doing a great job. Now it’s just up to us the players to go out there and execute what they’re giving us and play our best.’ The man with the mic then asked Wall if it was time for him to make the playoffs. ‘Yeah, it’s time for me to be in the playoffs, it’s time to be an All-Star,’ Wall said. ‘It’s all those type of things that I’ve been wanting and wanting [for] this organization, to help the Wizards get better. So it’s all up to me to lead my team and us to get better.’”

I can only assume he made friends with a bunch of goons willing to go Tonya Harding on about 8 guards in the East

  • Sheed

He could be one of the best point guards in the East next season so I could see this happen. He has the potential to perform better than Dwill and Kyrie

  • nocioniisgod

I bet the Wizards have a better chance of making the playoffs then him becoming an allstar…they have a pretty solid starting 5 if they all commit to D

dwill. kyrie. rondo. lowry? am i forgetting anyone? jrue? he could make it if the wizards have a decent record and he improves from last season

  • Tempest

Haha you wish John. Unless Bradley Beal plays like a ’96 MJ you won’t make the playoffs. How about you set small goals, Like getting an assist turnover ratio of more than 2:1 and shooting over 8% (YES 8%) from three point range

  • LA Huey

Wade, Rondo, JJ, DWill, Kyrie. One of them would have to slip significantly for him to get in. AND Rose could still get in via the sentimental fan vote. His best shot is his Wizards significantly improving their record and the coaches get him in that way.

Does John Wall have 1 billion Chinese stuffing the ballot box for him too?

  • jayrose

I’m sure hell have a good season but like everybody says rondo and dwill are the top guards in the east with kyrie behind them and when rose returns to his form his chances gonna get lower.

cosign LA huey. personally I think John Wall can outperform Kyrie but whatever.

  • Brett

Could he make the all star team? Yes
Will he most likely make it in? No
Could the Wiz make the playoffs next year? Yes
Will they most likely make it in? Possibly

All of it depends on the cohesiveness of the unit. This team seems very much the opposite of a “big three” style. We have a plethora of slightly above average guys to mix with some average guys and way above average guys. Wall, Beal, Ariza are going to be depended on to make this offense click big time. The big guys on the blocks are ones that have to be given opportunities as they most likely wont be able to create them regularly. I believe the bench’s responsibility is going to be more of a lock down defense role and slightly outscore the other team until the real scorers get back on the floor. Its going to be awesome to see Wall running this fast paced offense with Beal to dish out to. I could realistically see him averaging a double double this season, but the talent out there is too great for him to be an all star. Rondo averages close to a triple double every season, Kyrie will probably be a top 5 or 10 player within the next 3 seasons, and DWill plays amazing but could drop off this year if he’s unhappy. Add Chalmers strides he took forward during the end of the season and playoffs and Wall could be looking at being the #4 or #5 PG in the east. He just needs to play well enough to get in the playoffs.

Can he hit a jumpshot yet? But I suppose that’s a moot point seeing as Rondo’s no Ray Allen either.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

John Wall does this every year, publicly announces a crazy goal and it doesn’t happen & you lose respect for the guy. He needs to quit the limelight and play.

  • http://www.twitter.com/_dfrance dfrance21

Joe Johnson is still there too. He’s not popular enough for the fan vote and the unless he puts up crazy stats, the Wizards record won’t be good enough for the coaches to get him in.

  • Antonio

SMDH , some of y’all just down right haters . It’s always the ones who dreams failed to get them in the nba

  • http://www.newyorkshockexchange.com Shock Exchange

Cosign Redd. Wall still living off of the hype he generated in HS and at Kentucky. Put up or shut up.

  • LA Huey

Wizards have all the right pieces to make a playoff run but they also have a below average coach.

  • http://www.slamonline.com spit hot fiyah

i wrote that assuming rose wont be back until january

  • Tempest

@LLC compared to Wall Rondo looks like Ray Allen, and it’s not a moot point. John needs to be a better shooter than rondo because he’s passing is no where near rondos level

  • c.a.

As a mature adult not afraid to swallow his pride, after being on here two summers ago scoffing at Derrick Rose ‘I can be MVP’, I am going to keep my trap shut.

  • Sizzle

J-Wall has the potential to be nice, maybe not D-WILL, RONDO, OR ROSE nice, but a good player none the less. As funny as this sounds, he has to slow down. Right now he relies 100% on his athleticism. That doesn’t fly in the L. His game needs to be more cerebral and I definitely agree that he needs to find some semblance of a jumpshot. He doesn’t have much around him, so I am not expecting an ASG appearance for him….

  • LA Huey

Rondo’s passing is on the level befitting of a Point God.

  • dsleepy

    go wiz

  • Orlando Woolridge (RIP)

A while back, I asked y’all who you’d take if you had a choice between Wall and Irving, and a great majortiy said Wall. Seems like he’s losing some of his luster these days. At this point, who would you take? I need to decide for my upcoming draft for NBA Live 12! Actually, out of the last 3 years combined including this years draft (because they didn’t make the game), who would be your top 3 picks?

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

A player like Beal will work wonders for Wall’s game.

  • http://slamonline.com Krishan

Wow brett did I just read that right you’re putting chalmers ahead of john wall?

  • LA Huey

There’s no such thing as NBA Live 12. Unless that was a clever reference to your fantasy league.

  • Orlando Woolridge (RIP)

    Live 13…my bad

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

I believe in him, if he’s as committed as he says he is.

  • LA Huey

LOL, it’s all good. I figured as much. I was thinking of doing the same in 2K13 with Brooklyn after creating the version of myself whose basketball career wasn’t derailed by a crippling lack of work ethic and raw talent.

  • http://www.dimemag.com showtime

kid is nice & has potential ,if he put work in and the team has winning record he has a great shot. Hince remember last year when the young buck was making a strong case 4 allstar but milwaukee flame out @ the end. Plus its guard heavy in the west.

  • Basketball iQ

Ppl sleep on wall .. Don’t forget he’s over there by himself with jordan crawford. Bringing in nene & ariza & okafor is nice . You have to expect everything will grow from here out. I don’t remember the questions wall vs kyrie but he’s not terrible in the least to outright pick kyrie over him.

  • Basketball iQ

& nba live will trash 2k this year. I said it write it down.

  • Ryo

Wall has the potential to be amongst the elite point guards. The question is, how bad does he want it and will he work hard enough to reach these goals of his?

  • Respect

Wats up with the kyrie love does anyone watch the games hes not that great of a passer which is y he avg. Like 5.5 asst. To john walls 8

  • ALD

wall is good but this is not the dleague.

  • http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/grant-hill-says-detroit-orlando-mismanaged-injuries-042711 nbk

Kyrie was better than John Wall last season. By a good margin. Wall probably has more potential, but Kyrie is the better player. Offensively at least. Defensively he’s not.

  • LA Huey

co-sign nbk. And Kyrie wasn’t crippled by knucklehead teammates and took full advantage of it.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Kyrie is a better player now and will be in the future. John Wall is an And 1 player. To me John Wall is a shooting guard and I hope he gets his team involved enough in games for them to win.

  • Orlando Woolridge (RIP)

Man, I just typed a long-ass message and it didn’t show up at all? Damn! Anyway, I was more impressed with Kyrie’s game last year, but I didn’t get to watch either of them a whole lot. It seemed as if Kyrie plays with a lot more control and is actually running the offense. Wall is obviously blessed with amazing athletic ability, but didn’t seem to run the offense as efficiently. Also, if you were picking from the last 3 drafts combined, I don’t know where to put Anthony Davis. Do you take size and potential over proven ability?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

He also had a coach in Byron Scott who has been around a few great PG’s in his career in the NBA.

  • Ldub

Its going to be tough when you have Irving, Rondo, Williams, Rose as top pgs in the east. But if his numbers are right, i believe he can do.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

To say that Wall is a SG has to be the dumbest sh*t I’ve heard in a long time. The man avg. 8+ apg in back-to-back seasons while being surrounded by what is arguably the worst supporting cast/coaching staff in the L.

  • Orlando Woolridge (RIP)

Not that I think the Wizards were anything close to being a good squad last year, but I’m not so sure if Irving’s supporting cast was all that much better. Maybe in terms of bball IQ, but not talent.

  • Sérgio

@ Brett: Chalmers competing for an All Star Spot? f@ck man, what have you been smoking?

  • B.C.

They could make the playoffs but him being an all-star is unlikely with DRose, Rondo, and Deron Williams playing poin-guard, only way he’ll be able to is if they get injured.

  • Fletch213

John Wall says “it’s time I get a reliable jumpshot”

  • Raseven

the fact he averaged 8 assists a game two years in a row with that cast defininitely shows the potential he has

  • Omar

Don’t let athleticism and potential cloud your judgment. Kyrie Irving is a better player than John Wall right now.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

if John Wall develops his jumper shot, he leapfrogs the Kyrie Irving conversation and jumps into the Russell Westbrook one.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    jumper,*
