Knicks are Reportedly the Favorite to Land Marcus Camby

Veteran big man Marcus Camby is currently looking for a new home—he’s reportedly no longer interested in returning to Houston—and according to ESPN, the Knicks have a slight edge over the Heat to land the center: “Highly sought-after unrestricted free agent big man Marcus Camby postponed his meeting with the Miami Heat on Saturday, according to a source with knowledge of his plans. It was done to allow the team to work on a potential sign-and-trade with the Houston Rockets, but the Rockets aren’t currently interested in dealing with the Heat. The Rockets, according to sources, are more interested in a sign-and-trade with the New York Knicks. Sources told ESPN.com that the Knicks have had discussions with the Rockets about Camby, as well as the Dallas Mavericks about a sign-and-trade for free agent Jason Kidd, who agreed to join the Knicks earlier this week. The Knicks are hoping to make a sign-and-trade deal for one of them and use their $3.09 million mid-level exception to sign the other. A source close to Camby would be ‘shocked’ if he signs anywhere for the veteran’s minimum of $1.4 million, which is what the Heat only have available after Ray Allen agreed to their mid-level exception of $3.09 million on Friday. That financial factor is one of the biggest reasons why the Knicks have the edge over the Heat and are the early favorite to land Camby, who is meeting with the team’s front office on Sunday in Houston. That’s where the 38-year-old played toward the end of last season after being traded from Portland.”

Still one of the league’s better shot blockers.. Im not really a Knicks fan, but they are addressing some of the areas they need to contend.. For their sake, I hope melo reports to camp in shape..

Melo will be in shape. He has already lost 20lbs so far, plus he is playing summer ball with team USA.

he’ll retire next year, he just wants to be a knick when it happens

Can’t go wrong with a guy that averaged 9 boards and is willing to come off the bench. Camby will get minutes behind Candler and Amare. He’s quite good at throwing lobs, so hopefully Woodson can draw up some plays involving two bigs so Camby can toss a lob or two per game.

Make it happen, Dolan… before Munkey’s team comes to court Camby.

  • philynation

he avrged 8 boards in like 20 minutes and the knicks need another big man lock down defender, good pick up if it goes through

  • Hobo Man

Being the favorite doesn’t seem to mean much this offseason..
