Knicks Reportedly Interested in Raymond Felton if Steve Nash Signs Elsewhere

Steve Nash is being heavily courted by a number of teams, reportedly including the Knicks, Raptors, Pacers, Heat and Suns. But if the Canadian point guard chooses any team besides the Knicks, New York may have a back-up plan in the form of a guy who played in the Big Apple not too long ago: Raymond Felton. The NY Post has more: “A source said the Knicks contacted Nash, who lives in the West Village, soon after free agency opened this morning at 12:01 a.m. to set up a meeting. Nash said he hoped to host a few teams in New York Sunday and Monday. A Raptors contingent reportedly was flying into the Big Apple this morning. Nash has never been to the Knicks’ Tarrytown facility and probably would like to test the commute. As one of the top two or three free agents available, however, Nash has told multiple sources the Knicks are on the outside looking in because they only have the $3.09 million taxpayer mid-level exception to wield. Nash made clear this week money is a major factor, and playing for a contender for less money is ‘tempting’ but could backfire if the chemistry does not work out and it leads to him getting traded. Having Jeremy Lin on the roster also could create issues. Nash is the best candidate to lift Stoudemire out of last season’s funk, but Felton also is on their radar and is more attainable. Felton made sweet music with Stoudemire on the pick-and-roll in Mike D’Antoni’s Knicks offense in the first half of the 2010-11 season. Felton loved D’Antoni’s offense, and new coach Mike Woodson has tried to keep some of D’Antoni’s principles. After a down season with Portland, Felton’s market value has fallen, possibly into the Knicks’ range. Former Knicks president Donnie Walsh never wanted to trade Felton, but was under great pressure from owner James Dolan to make the Carmelo Anthony deal happen late last February.”

Rather get Felton off rip..Nash wants to play for cash not a chip..of that was the case he’d go to a contender…get Felton for the low low and him amare will prob work out nice again ..go Knicks

No, no Knicks. Listen to me. Felton can be a quality PG, you have the talent to make a run, but have short bank. Look for an aging vet that wants a chance to win it all. That PG is Andre Miller. He would run the second unit and keep Jeremy from getting too many minutes.

  • Bt

You could have had him and Wilson Chandler and DG still if melo hadnt been so greedy and had just come across in free agency

^agreed bt, but i don’t know about mello being greedy. more like knicks being stupid. could have just kept the players u mentioned and waited for carmelo to sign in the off season, if he really wants to be there he would sign regardless, if he doesn’t, then good bye.

  • Hart

Shouldn’t do that. I love Felton, but Andre Miller is the better option for us.

Felton already prove he could run the team in NYC with Amare. Good pick up but if I’m Raymond I’d sign anywhere else but NYK.

  • MeloMan15

you can’t say melo was greedy, the knicks organization should have known better than to trade the entire team, considering he was going to ny anyways

Is Felton an improvement over Lin, I think they’re the same player right now with the exception being that Lin hasn’t hit his ceiling.

The Knicks should focus on getting Felton instead of Nash. NY is imfamous for getting stars when they are way past their prime.(Steve Francis, Penny Hardaway, Tracy Mcgrady, ect) Why would this case be any different? Felton was a borderline All-Star when he was playing at the Garden. He would be a great back and do more than help out as Jeremy Lin’s knee recovers back to 100%.

  • Nyknicksfan7

We need to sign raymond felton and sign randy foye cuz he said he would take the 3 mils nd he always plays great at the garden

People forget that Melo had an opportunity to sign a 3 year 65 million contract that wasn’t necessarily going to be on the table after the new CBA. For all intents and purposes Melo would have resigned in Denver for all the extra $$. NY management should have played a bit more hard ball though and kept one of those three assets.

i’d rather have Jason Kidd than any of these players. Add Kidd, Deshawn Stevenson, let JR Smith walk, Trade Fields. By the time playoffs come the nine man rotation would look like this:

    Lin/ Kidd
    Stevenson/ Shumpert
    Melo/ Novak
    Amare/ Jefferies

Shumpert off the bench because he needs to ball to be a playmaker. Stevenson can just play defense and hit open threes to spread the floor with the starting unit.

Kidd has become more of a 3 point shooter and doesnt get into the paint like he used to. Nash does. But real talk, i’d blow this team up and trade everyone to theeee worst teams in hopes of getting high draft picks. There arent two players on this team that compliment each other. Well, maybe Lin and Novak, but they aint building blocks. Nash isnt turning down Torontos 3-year, $36 mil contract and Felton aint the answer. Knicks is assout for the foreseeable future.

I think this is the NYKnicks way of saying through the public forum that they don’t really want Nash…. Nash has said with out actually saying it that he doesn’t want them…. he’s crafty.

New York Knicks reportedly interested in all free agents this offseason

  • gusisit

cosign mike, it seems like it, but i say the knicks should just scrap everyone and start to rebuild

The point guard list is long and distinguished. I wasn’t crazy about Felton running the show, he has game, but he’s missing that little sumthin sumthin. Aaron Brooks has been in a cell in Phx and UFA I wouldn’t mind Gilbert Arenas for super cheap Baron Davis contract. New York’s guard play is weak, they have to get an athlete with a chip on his shoulder and wants to lead.

  • josh

felton blows please leave portland you can have him!!!!

  • Justin05

Lol Lin is a joke. The NBA needed a spark so they rode that for a couple weeks. Must be nice when your name can be used for publicity so well. Simple minds..

  • Justin05

As for Felton, it doesn’t matter. Any team with Melo or amare will not win a championship…so having both is just stupid. The knickerbockers thought they were headed in the right direction but so far have only been fools gold.
