Kris Humphries Re-Signs With Nets

The Brooklyn Nets have re-signed power forward Kris Humphries to a two-year, $24 million contract, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein. Humphries averaged nearly 14 points and 11 boards last season for the Nets. Brooklyn’s starting lineup is now complete, and will feature Deron Williams and Joe Johnson in the backcourt and Humphries, Gerald Wallace and Brook Lopez in the frontcourt.

I hope that second year is a team option. Otherwise, good move. The big man rotation of Lopez, Hump and Evans is mediocre, but has some potential.

What were you saying about a week ago nbk I don’t remember? Lolololol

  • RKJ92

    Sorry I had too xD

  • http://www.slamonline.com spit hot fiyah

    super solid starting 5

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

Yea, this starting line up has some potential to do damage.

  • Groves

where the hell are the nets getting this much money from

  • T-Money

kris humphries is underrated. he went 14-11 last year. yeah, the nets overpaid but they are already over the cap so it has no implications other than prok’s pockets – and he gives zero fvcks about that.

  • Mas

With Evans, M. Brooks, and a couple of rookies they will be able to hold a lead if they are given one but I don’t see them winning games for the Nets. But in this L you can win with 3 or 4 good players and fillers.

    @Groves…a Russian Billionaire.

  • Mas

    ^…and Brooklyn mogul.

  • LA Huey

Kris Humphries is $12M/yr? Mikhail don’t give a fack about luxury taxes

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

I said I had been hearing he wouldn’t be returning…Humphries was looking for a 4 year deal worth about $9M a season. I like this move for Brooklyn assuming they don’t have to pay him the full $12M or whatever for him next season. He fits much better next to Lopez than Teletovic would.

  • CubicleWorker

So Lin at $25M for three years is ridiculous, but Humphries who has far less marketing power and slightly less comparable numbers (per position) gets the same amount for two years and it’s legit?

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I guess old boy figures that he’ll make the money back in real estate and other stuff. Plus, even if he loses $20 million a year, he makes that in a day.

  • http://www.slamonline.com TADOne

    WOW. Way overpaid.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Cubicle Worker
He’s overpaid. But, and this is a large but, the Nets need quality rebounders and they only signed him for two years. And I’d be willing to be the second the year is an option. I could be wrong, but I’m betting on it. So, just like with the franchise tag in football, the team overpays to fill a need for a single year.
Lin’s deal was for three years guaranteed and contained a balloon payment in the final year that would have raised his true cost to about $30 million a year. That is a big, big difference. Plus, he apparently went back and negotiated that deal to make it harder for the Knicks to match the original deal. Don’t know if that’s true, but that’s the scuttlebutt.

Again with the marketing power. This signing was about basketball.

    From John Hollinger:
If they’re thinking about trading for Dwight Howard after Jan. 15, when Brook Lopez is trade eligible – and most certainly, they are – then signing Humphries to a short contract of this size makes all kinds of sense.

The reason is that it allows the Nets to take back much bigger contracts from Orlando in a trade. Paying Humphries $12 million means that the combination of Humphries, Tyshawn Taylor and Reggie Evans can be used to take back $18.6 million in contracts from Orlando – which conveniently, is exactly enough to swallow the contracts of Orlando veterans Glen Davis, Jason Richardson, Chris Duhon and Quentin Richardson and clean the Magic’s books going forward.
That makes the deal look way better in my opinion.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

This is a delayed sign and trade pretty much then.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

That seems to be what they are hoping. Of course the Lakers could swoop in and steal Howard, but not for more draft picks and a complete salary overhaul. Right now, the Nets are positioned to offer Orlando the chance to tank completely, get draft picks and eliminate every horrendous contract on their books in the long term.
Either they take that opportunity, or they build their team around Andrew Bynum and his lukewarm interest in re-signing in Orlando.
We shall see, but Billy King has made some good choices.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

This seems like the best option for Orlando if NYK doesn’t match for Lin

  • LA Huey

It’ll be a half-hearted tank job at best though. Will Orlando wilt to public pressure from Magic fans who just want to get Dwight off a team going through the motions or will the front office truly stick it out until January or until a great deal shows up?

  • MUBWAR

why doesn’t hump deserve this deal? he was a beast down low. how about averaging 14 11 1.5 assists 1 steal and 1.5 blocks a game.

  • ALD

@MUBWAR Cosign.. the hump is a top 10 pf.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Huey
There is no great deal out there. All of the deals are flawed. And with Dwight saying he’s not resigning with most of these teams, very few great deals will materialize.

  • http://www.nba.com Shadojoker

Humphries EARNED this deal..there team looks like they can do some SERIOUS damage next year!!! Sad day for the East..Bulls are about to trade places with the Nets

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

The second year isn’t an option. It’s fully guaranteed.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Ehh then I am not a big fan unless he is definitely traded.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Yeah, that’s what I said. That’s a lot of money for a guy who is not better than David Lee or Joakim Noah.

  • http://www.slamonline.com nbk

overpaying him like that was probably the only way to get him to stay for less than 4 years. His $24M over 2 years is what, $8M less then he was looking for over 4? + next years expiring deal shouldn’t be too hard to deal. I just don’t know if he is worth what he will provide THIS Nets team. He may be worth close to $12M to a team that doesn’t have any PF’s, but what is he really going to do for Brooklyn? They are a 3-5 seed with or without him. So, he has to get traded for this to be worth it too me.

  • http://www.fullc0urtpress.com KHoliday

Looking like a nice sign and trade being set up for Jan. His time in Brooklyn will be about as long as his marriage was. Hey Dwight, see you in January my friend.

  • LA Huey

Well, I doubt Lopez is going to play well knowing he’s trade bait. But I think Dwight will finally make his stand stick to Brooklyn as his only destination. So the Magic will make the trade anyways.

  • http://www.rich-imaging.com Dutch Rich

    Hello

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I think Lopez will play well because he has something to prove to himself and the League.
At least that’s what I am hoping. If he gets 18 and 8, the Nets will be ecstatic.

  • http://www.slamonline.com nbk

Well he got his money. He might not feel like he has anything to prove. And he might get hurt. Which seems almost likely.

  • http://www.rich-imaging.com Dutch Rich

Very good day for the Nets. Hump is so much more to this team than rebounds and 7 put backs.
He’s the motor! Never takes a play off, never complains, takes up a lot of space, can give hard fouls if needed and he runs the floor extremely well even though it doesn’t always look pretty. He brings tons of intangibles and with Wedgie the PF position is pretty menacing, especially on the defense end. Great signing.
I would say barring injury we could now legitimately claim the 2nd seed in the east, and we are definitely deeper than nbk’s rectum. Sorry, had to go there. Picking up CJ Watson from the Bulls was brilliant, now we’re only lacking a solid back-up for Lopez.

  • http://www.slamonline.com nbk

had to go where? was that supposed to upset me or something? you still salty because i relayed information to you? it’ll be ok sugar pile.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

    Girls, girls.
    Now, now.

  • http://www.rich-imaging.com Dutch Rich

    It sure will….

  • http://www.slamonline.com nbk

    lol

  • JB

wow! 12M? Nets owner has serious deep pockets…luxury tax going to be more than some teams total salary.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

The Magic roster in late January will be…Jameer, Brooks, Turkoglu, Humphries, and Lopez with Nicholson, Redick, and Earl Clark off the bench….let’s tank it boys!

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

@ Caboose: They could still probably make the playoffs in the East… if this was 2001.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Prokhorov wipes his @ss with luxury tax dollars… before paying the Stern Gang.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Wow, dude got paid…. And still has the Karadashian’s gine juice on his tallywacker (Not the fat one, the hot one).. Its a good day for Kris..
