Kyle Singler Set to Begin NBA Career With Detroit Pistons

After getting drafted in the second round in 2011 and subsequently spending a season hooping in Spain, former Duke forward Kyle Singler will begin his NBA career this fall, when he laces ‘em up for the Detroit Pistons. The Wilmington NC News has the report: “Two days after the NBA draft was completed, it appears as though the ACC’s 2012 rookie class is about to grow by one. The Detroit Pistons announced Friday that they’ve come to terms with former Duke star Kyle Singler, who played last season in Spain after being drafted in the second round by the NBA team in 2011. ‘We expect to sign Kyle Singler on July 11,’ Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars said in a statement. ‘We look forward to having him with the Pistons this season.’ A 6-foot-8 forward who earned Most Outstanding Player honors in leading the Blue Devils to the 2012 national championship, Singler signed with the Spanish club Lucentum Alicante during the NBA lockout. He decided to stay in Spain even after the labor dispute was settled, signing a one-year deal with Real Madrid, where he averaged more than 14 points per game.”

I thought it was a really smart move for this guy to stay the full season in spain. Didn’t have to suffer through a miserable piston’s season, made some money and gained some euro skills.

He had a chance to better his game. Also got valuable practice time (which all the NbA teams would have liked to have). Now you got a solid core of Brandon Knight and Monroe. If only someone can take on Villanueva’s contract…..

  • el_larsen

    good news,he ll be fine
    but cmon jo D there s a lot of SF NOW(prince ,cv,jerebko,daye,singler,middeleton)

How can Singler play in Motown when he himself, has no soul

  • HEHATEME

@hehateme they r acting like kentucky didnt jus thappen

Yeah I agree with @el_larsen Dumars has too many SF’s on the team, he has to trade maybe Daye and CV to a team that’s looking to rebuild (Charlotte, Cleveland, NOLA) and trade them for a future first or second round draft pick. Free up some cap space and get someone good to replace Prince next year!

Detroit seriously looking to create problems… Possible championship contenders in 5 or 6 years if all pans out with their core

If Andre Drummond becomes Dwight with offense
Monroe- athletic sabonis or less athletic lengthier Chris webber
Brandon knight- more explosive Chauncey billups

With Austin daye being a homeless durant
Or singled mike miller on wizards

    It’s dynasty

Lol ^^ Greg Monroe = Sabonis. Wow.

  • http://Slamonline.com Captain Mar-Vell

What? Monroe is great passing big with good jumper. I’m talking about when sabonis was younger. Of course sabonis has size advantage but skill set it identical

I didn’t mention stuckey or jerebko because they’ve somewhat plateaued which is not bad thing cuz they produce some quality stats

Any TRUE basketball fan that hasen’t seen “Gunnin’ for that #1 spot” needs to add it to your Netflix que…. Thank me later. ;)

sabonis was never a younger sabonis in the league.

    Singular Wireless @BossT…

Sabonis is rolling around in his 7″3 grave right now.

  • EuroForce

@Nick Tha Quick sabonis is alive, but yeah if he hears someone calling Monroe a young Sabonis he might get another heart attack

You forgot to mention he lost in the finals after being up 2-1. But he’ll be fine in the nba at least he’ll be better than Daye. Cv is a pf, Jerebko is a pf, Prince is old but hey they need veterans with all these young guys and singleton isn’t that good a nba player. The pistons look like fun let’s hope they cal pull it together next season and sneak in with the 8 seed or something like that. They could use an expierienced point who can help mentor these young guards. Maybe Big Ben comes back as a player or an advisor to help Drummond. The big rookie needs to want it though.

andre drummond HAS no possible way of becoming “dwight with offense” …lol…Sabonis??? lol

Honestly i think Singler is kind of like a young Mike Miller. He can spot up, put it on the ground if need be, hes smart, and knows his role most importantly.

Mike Miller was much more than just a shooter when he was young/healthy. Also, young Sabonis was a BEAST. He would have been dominant in the NBA, he just couldn’t play over here until he was older. Also, I think scoring 20+ ppg is enough to convince me that Dwight Howard can play offense…SLAM online – where some of the most illinformed comments happen.

“Arvydas Sabonis”? Funny stuff in this one.

Sabonis is not the comparison i would put toward Monroe; however, i believe Monroe has the ability to be better than Sabonis was. A better comparison for Monroe would be Bob McAdoo, IMO.

As for Singler, i think he will do good in Detroit. Im actually glad he spent a year overseas working on his game. And yes, Detroit does have a glut of swingman, but Tay, Jerebko and CV can also play the 4 and Middleton and Daye can also play the 2. You can never have enough versatile wings. I would be all for trading CV but i dont see any takers out there.
