Magic Send Ryan Anderson to Hornets in Sign-and-Trade

Unwilling to spend the money required to keep restricted free agent Ryan Anderson on their roster, the Orlando Magic have agreed to sign-and-trade the stretch power forward to the New Orleans Hornets. They’ll receive Gustavo Ayon in return. Some details, via Yahoo!: “Ryan Anderson has reached agreement with the New Orleans Hornets on a four-year, $36 million contract in a sign-and-trade deal that will send backup center Gustavo Ayon to the Orlando Magic, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. As a restricted free agent, Anderson intended to sign an offer sheet from the Hornets that the Magic didn’t want to match. Orlando then decided to negotiate the sign-and-trade. Anderson, 24, emerged as one of the best long-range shooting big men in the NBA, averaging 16 points and seven rebounds for the Magic last season when he was named the league’s Most Improved Player.”

Thank you Ryan. As Magic fan, I’m grad he gets paid. Maybe a good package with Anthony Davis.

Hornets are loudly becoming an incredible team. And Suns fans, you have officially lost my sympathy and gained my empathy. Ayon? Really??

I don’t think Anderson will be a good fit with Davis.

Davis needs a big who’ll bang and do dirty work ala Kendrick Perkins

Plus with a big who attracts defense attention in the post how will Anderson get open for all those 3s.

I love this trade. Why not get a good vet to go with AD and, more importantly, help acclimate him to the league, especially for someone who plays at his position. N.O. could actually turn out to be a team with size. Anderson could also help bring some leadership, since Eric Gordon is iffy right now….don’t know exactly what is the REAL reason Gordon has decided he doesn’t want to run with the Hornets anymore, but…good trade!!!!

@cbb_fanantic And the best part is that Ryan Anderson is really young that people mistake he’s a vet. Great pick-up!

What has ryan Anderson done in the league to brid Veteran Leadership material? the hornets should try acquiring talent that will suit AD and AR.

I don’t EG wants to come back because uncertainty of how hornets will do?
Best case AR and AD are top 10 players positionally in 3 years?

Atleast SUns have a great medical staff to prolong NBA player’s career. Plus Goran Dragic and Mike Beasley (which is better pg and pf duo over AR and AD right now).

How is Anderson a vet? So he made the most threes and became a rashard Lewis clone? I think Anderson’s minutes will drop once they realize his game won’t suit what new Orleans are trying to do.

Jason Smith,Davis and Ryan Anderson equals LOADED front court..not enough room..bad decision gor Ryan Anderson in my opinion

  • Donte

Ryan anderson is a good ball player.PERIOD. He won’t have a problem fitting in. I don’t have the time to explain versatility in basketball terms. One word in what it means to a coach: priceless.

To all Magic fans wondering why Dwight wants to leave need look no further

  • cbb_fanatic

Ryan Anderson is a VET compared to AD. Obviously, I didn’t mean he has a stretch of years in the league like KG or Kobe…OBVIOUSLY. Or maybe it’s not so obvious if I have to spell it out. Look. Anderson may be young, but he has more EXPERIENCE in the league that he could share with Davis to help him become acclimated to the league quicker and also serve as a model on how to develop his offensive game even more (which is not at all bad considering he attempted the fifth most shots on his team and was still the leading scorer…regardless of how he got them). So if you want to be petty about what you call a “vet” even in the context of being compared to a rookie, then that’s fine but this is still an excellent trade.

Such a big loss for the magic right here. Magic don’t want to keep the three point offense either perhaps. All of a sudden dwight if he stays will need to command a double team . . . Funny just thinking about it . . . But as a FORMER suns fan. . . I shouldn’t laugh.

  • john

Magic have a problem with turning average players into great players (courtney lee, marcin gortat, brandon bass, trevor ariza, pietrus, rashard lewis) and then giving them away for practically nothing smh

  • misso

A vet is player in the league 3yrs+. Ryan Anderson is a good pickup for them. As a magic fan I would like to say thanx to ryno for the hustle & yrs he put here in Orlando. Everyone thinks that this is a stupid move on behalf of the magic & it’s not cause the magic already decided to start over, its obvious. So there’s no need to say this is the reason Dwight is leaving. This trade was done purposely for cap space

Will always be a fan of Ryan (same high school, same college) so I really wanna see him succeed in Nawlins. I think he will, he’s a good kid. Nbk, no need to rub it in…we know we’re screwed. Beyond belief. Are we tanking next year with the Jameer, Richardson, Turkoglu, Davis, Ayon lineup?

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Gustavo is nice, Caboose. I think he’ll surprise you.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Dacre you’ve abandoned the Suns?? Are you by chance a Laker fan now ’cause of Stevie?

  • Flamingo Dont Do It

New Orleans is going to be exciting to watch.

  • D12FSU

We still have 5 PFs so I’m assuming hennigan is not done.

  • james

This is good for Orlando.. Now they realize that its time to start over..

maybe their making move to clear their cap space for the next year or next next year free agents

@ Teddy-The-Bear: Steve Nash has been my all time favourite player. I think it would be fair to say I’ve idolised the guy since he’s been in the league. So I’ve had to make a hard decision, to be able to stay close to my favourite player I’m taking my talents (as a fan) to the Lakers…. For the record I’ll still be a Suns fan. ^_^
