Marv Albert Promotes New York Knicks vs Brooklyn Nets Season-Opener

By now you know that the Knicks and Nets will face each other for the first NBA game in Brooklyn’s history (November 1st at 7pm), and none other than Marv Albert has a breathless promotion of the tilt already cued up. You can listen to the audio of the legendary broadcaster on the Nets’ team website, or read the transcript via the NY Daily News: “Live from Brooklyn, New York, it’s opening night for the Brooklyn Nets at the spectacular new Barclays Center. This is Marv Albert, welcoming a world-wide audience on TNT and the sold-out crowd here is electric, ready to see All-Star point guard Deron Williams lead the Brooklyn Nets against the New York Knicks. ‘They’ll be talking about this night for years to come as one of the biggest events in New York sports’ illustrious history. The return of major professional sports to the borough is what Brooklynites have been dreaming about since the Dodgers broke their hearts and moved to L.A. in 1957. It was for moments like this that the Nets were determined to re-sign Deron Williams. But Brooklyn is back in the big leagues, and a ‘Who’s Who?’ of Brooklyn sits courtside, including JAY Z and Barbra Streisand, among others. We’re about to tip off this historic event: the Nets vs. the Knicks; Brooklyn’s Backcourt of Deron Williams and Joe Johnson against Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire; a capacity crowd for opening night at Barclays Center. Hello Brooklyn!’”

Say what you want about this so called rivalry, but this game will be huge

Knicks will blow them the f*ck out the water and we’ll all be reminded that this game means nothing. No disrespect to any Nets or Knicks fans but until one of those teams can make it to the second round or beyond it’s irrelevant.

@T-Ray, I agree with what you’re saying about the Nets and Knicks not being two very succesful franchises (as is the lakers, celtics, pistons, etc.) but I think we have to look at this game in a different way. This isn’t a game to see which of these teams is more dominant than the other, but instead they both want to prove basketball dominance in one of the capital cities of the world. It’s not like the opening game of Boston vs. Miami, but more like a Lakers vs. Clippers type of game. They want to let each other know who’s the real deal in their state, and for sure Brooklyn is going to be escited to finally have a team they can, in way, be proud of. But still, I understand your mindset T-Ray :)

Knicks win, just glad Lin name is not in the promo, kid screwed himself and his tiny backup career over.

I see where you’re coming from. I live in LA born and raised and I don’t even see the rivalry with the Lakers and Clips. I guess you have to be in a NY State of Mind to really appreciate it.

@T-Ray, yea man the New York sports world is like seperate from everything else! #EmpireSateofMind

The “hello Brooklyn” theme is getting annoying

Marc Spears reports the Knicks never took the cross river rivalry seriously…
We owned the Knicks during the Jason Kidd era and will own them again. Go Nets!!
Ignant NY cats be trippin, like the Nets legacy is nothing.
Even my main man Melo can’t stop me from hating the Knicks. Always have.
From Doc to Buck Williams, Petrovic, Kenny Anderson, DC to the team that went to the finals back to back.
Great move on new ownerships part to keep the name. They appreciated what came before. Kuddos.

@dutch rich: the knicks allways owned the nets, just coz u had a couple of jason kidd yrs dont make ur legacy worth comparing with the knicks tradition. the new jersey nets are dead anyway, now the team gt some flavor and an exciting future ahead. n from now on you will be taken seriously, anything that was b4 wont ever get respect by any knick fan ;)
