Memphis Grizzlies, Darrell Arthur Agree on 3-Year $9 Million Deal

The Griz and Darrell Arthur have agreed to terms on a contract that will pay the forward just over $9 million over the next three seasons. Reports the Commercial Appeal: “Memphis tendered qualifying offers to Arthur and fellow forward Marreese Speights, both restricted free agents, in late June. The Grizzlies came to terms late last week with Speights, agreeing to pay him nearly $9 million over two years. The third year of Arthur’s deal is a player option. Though the current free agency period started on July 1, players and teams cannot sign contracts until Wednesday. Because of Arthur’s restricted status, Memphis would have had the opportunity to match any other team’s offer. The 6-foot-9, 230-pound Arthur missed all of last season with a torn right Achilles tendon suffered in the days leading up to the December start of the lockout-shortened season. In 2010-11, Arthur averaged 9.1 points and 4.3 rebounds in 20.1 minutes per game. He played in all 13 games of the Grizzlies’ 2010-11 playoff run, averaging 7.1 points and 2.2 rebound per game. Arthur, who was drafted in 2008 out of the University of Kansas, has played his entire career in Memphis.”

Great move, hopefully he can make it through a season. He’s produced when healthy. Gasol, Z-bo, Speights and him make a nice front-court.

Haha. Ilyasova gets as much in one year on his new deal as Darrell Arthur and Ray Allen. It was sure worth those 16 games and boring fall last year.
