Raptors Sign Restricted Free Agent Landry Fields To Offer Sheet

New York Knicks guard Landry Fields is a restricted free agent, but he may be on the way out. According to Marc Stein of ESPN.com, the Toronto Raptors reached a tentative agreement on an offer sheet with Fields, which may also affect where Suns point guard Steve Nash ends up. “The Toronto Raptors have reached a verbal agreement with New York Knicks restricted free agent Landry Fields on an offer sheet, according to sources with knowledge of the deal. Sources say that Fields will sign a three-year offer approaching $20 million. He cannot sign until July 11, which is the first day NBA players can sign new contracts. The third year of the deal is expected to include a spike in Year 3 similar to the deal that the Houston Rockets verbally agreed this week with Chicago Bulls restricted free agent Omer Asik. The Knicks will have three days to decide whether to match the offer once Fields signs.”

If Nash goes to the Raptors id say they could compete in the east fairly well
    1. Nash
    2. Demar Derosan
    3. Landry Fields or James Johnson
    4. Andrea Bargnani
    5. Jonas Valanciunas

assuming everyone stays healthy, that looks to be a better team then Nash had with the Suns last year and they almost made the playoffs in the west. They could be a decent team.

  • O

So much for the sign-and-trade with the Suns for Nash. Landry Fields is the only Knick they’re interested in at all. Damn you, Toronto!!!

don’t forget Mike, we have Ed Davis Amir Johnson and Fields coming off the bench. that’s pretty good for a 4 to 6 seed in the east

Why did we have a lockout again? Landry Fields making more than 6mill a year is rediculous.

  • http://www.dimemag.com Showtime

Well tha knicks are out the running as usual..t-dot just put a 20 mil block to any speculation of a sign -trade with the knicks.lol..

Raptors with the Nashblock on the Knicks.

@O, yea, from what I hear. This move essentially kills the sign and trade with the Suns. Pretty damn good chess move by BC I must say. But if the Raptors end up getting Fields…we now have a jam at SG of DeRozan, Ross, Fields, and Forbes…hmm. well I guess some of them COULD play SF.

  • LA Huey

How does that kill the S&T scenario for Nash? Can’t NYK just match the offer and retain the rights to Landry Fields? Or is it that the Suns are unwilling to pay that kind of salary to Landry?

  • MeloMan15

This is horrible, my two teams fightig over Landry Fields… They’re both screwing eachother

  • MeloMan15

also, Landry Fields making 6mill a year is horrible not only for what ever team gets him, but for the entire NBA. didn’t the lockout happen to prevent stuff like this from happening

  • Hart

We wanted to f**k Landry so he f***ed us first! and He got paid! Gonna miss him.

  • R32

Championship or bust for Canada’s team! War Raps.

@mubwar, and don’t sleep on terrence ross. fields would be nice for toronto, or any team for that matter, classic glue guy

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Huey, Phoenix only wants Shumpert from Knicks. No S&T for Nash competes with what Toronto is offering him. Even if Landry agrees (all S&T’s must be agreed to prior to the contract being signed) Phoenix likely wouldn’t make the deal because they would have so many wings eating so much salary….especially after they inevitably sign Dragic to a 3 year 32 million dollar deal or whatever they overpay for him.

  • Marcel

    Dont forget TERRANCE ROSS

i completely forget about the rookie Ross. saw some highlights on youtube and the dude can pull up from anywhere specially from downtown

  • Forge

further to what nbk mentioned, if Knicks does match the offer, they cannot include Landry in any trades in 3 months. Phoenix or Nash would not wait 3 months to complete any trade.

that 2 gaurd is gunna get a LOT of heat in practice for minutes… Demar (who apperently put on enough weight to guard a 3), ROOKIE Terrence Ross and now Fields… wow

Good move by the Raptors. Now, the Knicks can move on and sign Randy Foye and re-sign Baron Davis. Make it happen, Dolan!

  • bravo

    @bravo lol.

  • Bravo

Lol common I gotta rep my city haha

  • Mike

To all of the idiots who now think that with landry fields the raptors are now a playoff team is just stupid. Even with the nash They are not going to be better than the hawks, knicks, magic, etc. they might have a chance at the 8 seed but good luck playing the heat in the first round

  • LA Huey

Forgot about the 90 day rules on new contracts. Thanks.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMo_HcRBnUY LakeShow

Fair enough. As long as you know your weird for the CAPS ;)

  • Bravo

Fair enough coming from someone I don’t even know

  • Shem

The Raptors will be making the playoffs not based off signing Fields, but from several moves. This team can compete with the Knicks and can easily take care of the Hawks or Magic. That’s an uneducated and joke of a statement. This team is going into next year with potentially :
    Fields/James Johnson/Kleiza
    Andrea/Ed Davis/Quincy Acy
WITH an additional $5 million of cap space excluding exceptions.

  • Bravo

Agree I feel like toronto can be better than some of the teams in the playoffs next season

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

The only way the Raptors don’t suck by starting Andrea Bargnani is if they have Steve Nash feeding him the ball. In that case, he’ll be pretty dangerous. Otherwise he’s a f*cking softie.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Can the Raptors still throwing money at James Harden? Are they less likely to do so now???

  • MeloMan15

    Fields SUCKS

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

where’s the story on Omer Asik SLAM?

  • http://slamonline.com Jones

To be honest, the East is so weak the Raptors could well make the playoffs.

  • Lloyd

Good pick up for the Raps. When are guys going to learn that usually free agents that come to Toronto NEED to be overpaid. Not many American players want to come here, that was one of the reasons why Colangelo was stuck getting Euro players for the longest time. Toronto is a very Euro friendly city with our diversity. If you want any American player, you got to pay them more than say the Knicks would. There’s no other appeal.
