Report: Derrick Rose Likely Out Until March

A month ago, the Chicago Bulls were saying that former MVP Derrick Rose, who underwent surgery to repair his torn left ACL in May, was “ahead of schedule” in his rehab. Today, however, the Chicago Tribune is reporting that Rose might be miss the majority of the upcoming season. CBS Sports has the details: “The Chicago Tribune reports, in the midst of an in-depth analysis of whether the Bulls’ moves are financially-based or basketball-driven, that Derrick Rose is ‘out until likely March.’ Kaboom. Reports in May had targeted an early January return for Rose, but March is more consistent with the tentative-12-months prognosis often given to ACL injuries. There’s no way to be sure, though. Rose could bust through rehab and make it back by January. He could have setbacks and miss the entire year. It’s a long and difficult process with steps along the way, but all of them have to go right for him to hit the optimistic end. And updated projection two months later of March is not a good sign.”

It’s all good, unfortunately, this is the only way they can get more young talent for free. Tank this season and get a healthy Rose back next year and a good lottery pick then get right back into contention. If they can dump Boozer along the way and free up cap space that would be a plus.

From the outside looking in, he should take the year off. The team he last played with might not even be the same team he comes back to with all of the moves Chicago is making. What if they are simply a .500 team before his return. He’d be playing his way back into shape for the remainder of the year, battling for AT BEST the 5th seed. He is young and will have plenty of years ahead of him IF he takes his time during the rehab process.

Wonder how Rose will handle being told he’s being replaced by Bellinelli. We need a real Superstar and Rose just isn’t good.

  • jayrose

I know he would like to be back as soon as possible but he should just take the year off. No point of trying to run on a season where we pretty much disassembled the bench mob and picked up no big free agents. We might make the playoffs but we can’t win a championship with rose coming back not 100 percent so as much as we want him back I rather him miss a season and come back healthy for the long run.

  • Derp

My sympathies go out to Rose, dude is suffering beyond what we can imagine. The NBA is also suffering without this boss. Say a prayer…

This guy needs to take AS LONG AS HE MUST to recover fully. His style of play is far too demanding on a half recovered body.

    tank city

…still think the bulls are gonna be better than the knicks this season, scrubs?

  • YaBoy

    not making playoffs this year

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

Probably @Z and if not its on an account of Bulls not having their best player lol. Knicks are the scrubs. An Allstar, superstar, a DPOY, and yet a 7th seed.

There is no need for Rose or the Bulls to rush his return.

  • Juice

If he rushes his return, he might injure himself again very quickly.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

the Bulls as an organization aren’t trying to win a title this year, idk why anyone would think Rose would rush back. Or even be ALLOWED to.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

People thought he would return around January? Even with reports of him being ahead of schedule, I figured it would be late February, early March…..I was just happy to hear the process had been going well.

  • pposse

he is not gooing to be allowed to rush back..d rose is way too competitive to willingly sit longer than is necessary. I see a situation very similar to 1986 MJ returning from his foot injury!

  • Tempest

^^^ yeah but the problem is he doesn’t know his limits or how to adjust his game when he comes back. You only jar to look at that disastrous game against the Knicks to see that. He just shoots and shoots regardless of the form he’s in.

  • BRAVO

with ROSE out the toronto Raptors making playoffs for shure

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Jordan’s injury was rather minor compared to Rose’s. Jordan came back with the same athleticism he had when he got hurt. To think you are going to see the same Rose you saw pre-injury is wishful thinking. At best.

  • patrick

Why did his ACL get injured in the 1st place? how can these injuries be prevented? that’s what im interested in regards to all this

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

Raptors still won’t get in lol.

  • http://www.michaelcho.com M Cho

Tank it and get that pick, Bulls!

  • pposse

all i am saying is that the closer D Rose gets to being fully healthy and clear to play, the more chirping that will be reported from D Rose’s camp to allow him to play. Nothing will surprise me with D Rose; whether it be a complete drop off from the pre-injured d rose or a better and more athletic version of the pre-injured d rose.

  • http://www.slamonline.com nbk troll

Should have signed with NIKE. Bulls need to make roster changes and give rose help when he gets back.

  • isiahone1

nbk is the biggest douche on this site

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/tray24 T-Ray

Why tank it? I don’t see this team in particular tanking sh*t. They’re too prideful especially Thibs.

  • ratguts

@patrick I’m guessing his taking it into the trees and getting clobbered time and time again. If I recall, they said his ACL was hanging by a thread and this injury was bound to happen at some point.

  • Valkyrie

@Derp, I hope that was sarcasm. It’s not that serious my g.

  • RunNGun

Good season for the bulls to tank…

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Best of luck to him.You guys remember when Redd said that Chicago is the new mecca of Basketball instead of New York? The most idiotic thing I’ve read on SLAM. Honestly, I think he might be on the stupidity level of my troll.

  • Valkyrie

^ Not NBK’s troll. NBK is a true NY hater.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    that was my troll Redd.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

I find it interesting, as a troll, that somebody is trying to troll me. I wanna let you all know that “nbk troll” is not the real troll.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

    ^not me

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

I think nbk has multiple trolls. This is getting weird. People are trolling him and they arent me. I’m the first troll that you built the bridge for.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

2:32, 2:50, & 3:36 are the only comments from the person everyone knows as nbk.
    .
    You see this SLAM? Ryne?
    .
There are at least, a minimum of, 3 different people using nbk as a name + 1 nbk troll.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

Lol it’s all good Nbk, always enjoyed you as a commentator despite if you think I’m an idiot:( lol but nonetheless again Chicago has produced many great players recently and stick by it nbks troll.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

This is Allen, I changed my name to NBK just to fit in.

  • http://www.nba.com Shadojoker

I’m with my fellow Chi-town crew..tank this season..save money for cap space and get a good lottery pick out of it..have Rose rest the ENTIRE season (sadness)..and be ready to sign Dwight next year..jk about the last part..btw..LMAO at people trolling “nbk”!!

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

^your dumb. The Mecca isn’t just something that gets thrown around. Do you even know what Mecca means. LOL your an idiot and I’m not from Chicago or New York. Everybody knows that the only stars that were born in Chicago are Rose and Wade. You know Wade right? The guy that always joins Lebron in dismantling the Bulls?

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

That last comment was for Redd not shadojoker

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I don’t know how this is working. I tried to post as NBK as a joke, but it didn’t work so clearly someone is taking care of the problem.

  • Sérgio

Has anyone ever come back from ACL surgery and remained with more or less the same athleticism? I only remember that guys that lost a lot of mobility, like C-Webb or Kidd.
    Well, maybe STAT and Martin…

  • pposse

baron davis suffered an acl before he was an nba ball player. And RGIII on the washington redskins suffered an ACL tear and is still a physical freak. The latter example is a guy who aint a bball player, but he is an athlete, a damn good one at that too.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

both of you realize the Mecca of basketball is a fictional idea right? New York is traditionally called “the Mecca” because of it’s playgrounds, namely, Rucker Park. Where players in the 70s used to travel to year round to play the best basketball in the country. In reality though, the Mecca is either Springfield Massachusetts (where Basketball was created) or Indiana (basketball is a religion there – high school ball is the most competitive there). Chicago probably has the best amateur players in the country as we speak, New York has the best playgrounds. Neither are really “the Mecca” anymore than the other. In the 70s though, it was New York in players and location – and that’s when it got its prestige.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Sergio, idk how athletic Kyle Lowry used to be, but he tore his ACL in college. He remains pretty damn athletic.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

@nbk…ok then I guess that’s settled. I guess I misconstrued the concept of “Mecca”, it’s hard for me to disagree because being Muslim I understand the concept of “Mecca”. Then I guess I could say Chicago is the new breeding ground for great players. But I do disagree with Indiana though but everything else nbk you got right.

  • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Largest_high_school_gyms_in_the_United_States nbk

Redd, i personally don’t think there is a “mecca” for basketball. i just relayed what a lot of people believe about the concept. the only reason Indiana gets so much love as “the mecca” (from what i’ve witnessed/learned/heard) is because it is the only place where basketball is literally treated as a religion by a huge portion of people. the high school basketball gyms (should say stadiums) in Indiana hold like 5,000+ people. Click my name. That should help illustrate what i’m trying to say.

I think it comes down to genetics, how resistent your body is to damage, how well it is at adjustment and recovery from such injury. Next it is how you are personally, how you eat, train etc. I tore my ACL lost near half of my meniscus. At the before injury I was no physical marvel, 5’10 270 -280 but i could get a firegulation rim(on a good day).
