Report: Ray Allen to Sign With Miami Heat

Ray Allen has joined the Miami Heat, according to multiple reports. After battling injuries during Boston’s Playoff run this past year, Allen—an unrestricted free agent—has decided to join LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and the Champion Heat, the team that ended the Celtics’ 2012 season. NBA.com‘s David Aldridge is confirming reports that Allen has agreed to a deal worth what looks like less than what the Cs and Grizzlies were offering: ”The Big Four are no more. At least not in Boston. Free agent guard Ray Allen agreed to sign Friday evening with the Miami Heat, ending his five-year run in Boston that was highlighted by two Finals trips for the Celtics, including the 2008 championship. Allen chose Miami over Boston, Memphis and Minnesota, giving the Heat a potentially lethal perimeter option to go along with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh next season. The 37-year-old Allen visited Miami Thursday and left town Friday morning after being courted by the Heat organization. He was supposed to visit the Clippers on Friday, but that visit was cancelled after Los Angeles agreed to terms with free agent guard Jamal Crawford on Wednesday. Allen never met with the Grizzlies or Timberwolves. The Celtics had been optimistic that they’d be able to re-sign Allen after agreeing to terms last week with Kevin Garnett on a three-year deal and reaching terms on Thursday with forward Brandon Bass. Allen took less money to go to Miami. All the Heat had to offer was the taxpayer’s exception that starts at $3.09 million next season and can go out a maximum of three years and $9.5 million. Boston had offered a two-year, $12 million deal, and the Grizzlies were willing to give Allen their full non-taxpayer mid-level exception that starts at $5 million next season and can go out as long as four years. Heat owner Micky Arison broke the news on his Twitter account Friday, writing, “Its 2:30am in London and I was just woken up with great news. Welcome to the family #20!!””

I hope this is a joke

  • LA Huey

Bigger role on team + 1 more year than Boston offered + no state income tax

  • iknowmybasketball

i definitely wouldve like to seen this big 3 retire as a big 3. With all the chemistry that celtics team has, i cannot help but think KG PP and Rondo feel betrayed. guess theyll be out for blood when miami rolls along in beantown…

  • BWill22

Ray’s jumpin on the d**k like is going out of style!

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Teams are going to have a hard time loading up the paint to slow down LeBron/Wade’s drives now that MIA has Allen along with Battier, Miller (possibly), Chalmers and at times Bosh.

  • O

Allen was good as gone when Ainge was trying to find a good package to trade him for. Not to mention I read that Allen’s relationship with Rondo resembles that of 50 Cent and The Game when they were on G-Unit together (Ok, maybe not that bad, but you get the idea). That said, Heat got the next 3 titles on smash.

heat vs lakers in the finals next year lmao.

  • wet

yeah, people easily forget that they tried to trade him the last two years.

  • Emphy

    2K13, I got the Heat!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

I’m not too worried about this move actually….ray has lost a step. Like Barkley says: you don’t get healthy when you old, you just die…

  • http://slamonline.com Caboose

Redd is my friend. I bet hed give me a discount on a rimjob

  • alphabeta

Very good signing. Well, Boston Geriatrics, the only person you can blame is that flamer Rondo. If it wasn’t for him maybe you would still have RayRay. Now fade into oblivion. LOL.

  • http://wikipedia.org Eddie1

I’ve been working in the Boston Area for the past 10 years (From Seattle originally so I respect Ray and root for the cat). Since 08, there’s been rumblings of tension between Ray and Rondo, with the former blaming Rondo for his slump during the 08 playoffs. In 2010, this tension resurfaced with Rondo saying that Ray was the reason for the fracture among the locker room with Ray demanding more shot opportunities from Rondo. Didn’t hear anything bad between the two from then on until 2012.

  • O

He could’ve gotten more money elsewhere. This is his big “F*CK YOU” moment to Danny Ainge.

  • Emmanuel

    Okay… That’s it for ray Allen… He’ll now become a true bench warmer…

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

Yesh this is horrible for the Eastern conference. But that’s not to say that Allen is the same player.

if u cant beat um..join um ..dude still got alot juice left

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

And also assume Allen will be rotated out for Wade so I think we’re overreacting to how affective he will be.

  • money man

that’s how free agency works folks – players heading to the best situation.

  • TV63

Really disappointed to see him go. Miami don’t give a rat about Allen! Job well done Lebron breaking up the BIg 3 and for half the price! You learned from the best! THough Danny Ainge we mostly have you to thank for this . You treated him like disposable garbage during trade time yearly. What did you expect? You sir are a class A jackass!

  • http://wikipedia.org Eddie1

As long as the Thunder don’t win ever I’m good. Eff those thieves. Eddie reppin seattle for life.

  • Bravo

They just got the best 3 point shooter of all time

  • Heals

Much love to RayRay and fam, but now he’s playing for his “boys’” biggest rival, so after the first homecoming cheer and thanks, it’s nothing but boo’s Mr. Shuttlesworth. Hindsight is 20-20, but it was always apparent that PP34, Rajon and Ticket were a little “tighter” with each other individually than they were with SugarRay. The C’s organization had it coming since RayRay was always the go-to piece to dangle in trades (Rondo rumors were always false) over the past couple years so it’s a business on both ends. BUT fam is fam and there was no way in hell anybody even questioned where KG would play if he returned, Doc announced he was coming back within a week; so the whole fact he needed time to think it over between Mia and Bos (taking the meeting with Mia out of respect for LBJ and the Champs aside) at all said enough for me…

  • Robb

hes gonna do great in the regular season….yup. The regular season.

  • Heals

You folks are too funny, yeah blame Rondo fro “tension” or not enough shots when KG, Doc, PP34, Dooling, Bass, Shaq all LOVED to play with/coach. This is the same player who missed 17 straight 3′s in Finals right? Yeah all Rondo’s fault huh? Thought so. Yeah blame Danny for being SMART and looking to trade assets before they lose value. Cause we need to blame Danny for Bass re-uping, Green re-uping (10mil a year now that’s a different story for a different time), snagging Jet (who is more vesatile than RayRay), snagging Sullinger in the draft and establishing a true culture in Beantown…

  • Bernie

Ray Allen sucked last year real bad. None of you guys watched last season? If jones and miller are gone then I don’t think the heat improved really. Thunder up!

  • Your Friendly Neighborhood Dopeman

Thank you for leaving Ray. You was holding down the team. I guess you figured since you can’t guard D Wade for sh*t, you mind as well join him. I applaud you sir. I honestly don’t remember Ray having a good game all season long even before the “bone spurs”. Welp. I was w/ Ainge when he wanted to trade him.

  • Airnest

    JUDAS SHUTTLESWORTH!

  • Think Tank

Really wish he had stayed with the boston crew and upheld their stubborn old warrior mentality. I know that Boston tried to trade him a few times, moved Ray to the bench, and just signed JET… but I just wish he had chose somewhere besides Miami!

  • Joe King

Good thinking on his part in a way if they were trying to trade him the last 2 years… Made sure that he got on a team of his choice instead of chancing retiring somewhere other then a contender

  • anonymous

did people actually watch ray allen last year in boston he was horrific before, during and after the ankle injury. he was killing boston offensively and especially defensively yet ppl think this is a good signing for miami? I`m hoping the optimism is a new form of sarcasm because looked even worse in the playoffs.

  • T-Money

ray averaged 14 ppg as a 4th option and shot 46% from 3. now after the ankle injury, he was trash but he’s not washed up.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

I love how Ray is suddenly considered trash by a lot of people now that he’s in MIA, funny how that works.
The Heat don’t need him to be Prime Ray, they need him to knockdown wide-open 3s on a consistent basis and no one in the history of the NBA is better than Ray at doing that. Even with his struggles in the playoffs last year, we saw how teams like MIA were playing him whenever he came off this pin-downs/screens (afraid to give him the slightest daylight).

  • http://www.soundcloud.com/tray-5 T-Ray

    cosign JT
Ray doesn’t have to be Seattle Ray for him to be a contributor. Good point that people are turning on Ray after this move. Fickled fans are something else. At least my man Heals gives blood some love for what he’s done for Beantown.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

The NBA is going to be so much fun this season

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

co-sign nbk. So many factors to consider & new teams. The balance will definitely switch. I think Sixers got worse.

  • T-Money

jarrett jack’s twitter feed is hilarious. dude is SALTY.

  • Sam

I think it’s fair to say that not only did miami’s perimeter game just improve ten fold, but ray wants to win. He isn’t chasing $.

  • Dr Jamo

    HEAT GOT GAME!!!!

  • http://gmail.com Gangsta

I understand the Heat r the hottest team @ the moment but dat guy made a poor choice bcoz the Celtics r still the team 2 beat with the most titles……

  • http://WWW.SLAMONLINE.COM Benn0

I don’t understand why heat fans automatically believe that they’ll win another championship. Yes ray allen is a brilliant shooter, but he is 37 and becoming more and more injury prone, and he will also be a liability on defense. Secondly, i’d rather have Rajon trying to find me on the court than mario chalmers, or even lebron for that matter. Finally, other teams are still improving – OKC will be back stronger next year, the lakers have added nash, D Rose will be back for the bulls, and even though boston haven’t got ray back, i still think they improved their team in the offseason, and they could still go after someone like lou williams (long shot), OJ Mayo or even elton brand.

  • JML-G

Bulls fans are delusional – without second superstar, its a wrap for that team as contenders in the east

  • http://www.slamonline.com L.E.

A healthy Jeff Green and Jason Terry isn’t that bad. Let Ray go.

  • azhood

Ray Allen just solidified his nba story by chasing coat tails. Its sad really. He wont even be playing in crunch time.

  • EJ

Lebron vs Kobe in the finals, finally?

  • blackthought

man – jesus shook hands with the devil!i justed puked! HATE 2 c him leave, greatest shooter in the game! hope miami doesn`t ever win a ring again!
