Andre Iguodala Is Very Excited to Be a Denver Nugget

by Eldon Khorshidi | @eldonadam

All-Star swingman Andre Iguodala can’t wait to join his new team, the Denver Nuggets. Prior to acquiring Iguodala, the Nuggets were already one of the most athletic and fastest teams in the NBA, and with AI on board, they will presumably be that much more dangerous. With a promising young core of Ty Lawson, Danilo Gallinari, Kenneth Faried and JaVale McGee in place, and with former teammate Andre Miller on the roster, the Olympic gold medalist is very optimistic about Denver’s future. After all, the Nuggets did take the Lakers to seven games last May.

More details, via NBA.com:

“I really like what they’re building in Denver and I look forward to being a part of it.” The Nuggets acquired Iguodala from the 76ers on Friday as part of a four-team, 12-player deal that also included the Los Angeles Lakers and the Orlando Magic. During one post-trade interview, Iguodala said he was thankful for the opportunity to play in the NBA and added that he would be happy playing basketball anywhere—even in Alaska. Some misconstrued the comments as ambivalence toward the Nuggets. “I like the roster that Josh and (executive vice president of basketball operations) Masai (Ujiri) have assembled,” Iguodala said. “It’s a high-energy group with a lot of athleticism. I’ve played with Andre Miller and know how valuable a player he is. Ty (Lawson) is one of the best young point guards in the league and Danilo (Gallinari) can really stretch the defense with his shooting and can do a lot of other good things offensively. The young bigs like JaVale (McGee), (Kenneth) Faried and (Timofey) Mozgov are all talented guys who will only continue to get better.” It also should be a good fit. Nuggets coach George Karl loves to run; Iguodala loves to run. Denver loves to create offense with its defense; Iguodala is a lockdown defender who can create turnovers. “I think my strengths as a player fit in very well with Coach Karl’s system and the way he likes to play,” Iguodala said. “I like a more up-tempo game, and I know this team gets up and down the floor being among the league leaders in scoring and possessions per game last year.”

    Great!!! good luck!!!

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

Going to be an even more exciting team to watch. They’ll have a guy who can guard the other team’s best perimeter player effectively. JaVale McGee protecting the basket. Ty Lawson at the point. George Karl has a lot to work with.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

AI, will average more points playing for the Nuggets this year. I hope it goes well for him, because he plays hard on defense and has improved his shooting where it is acceptable now. Good high energy team!!

  • http://www.slamonline.com AT

I would say that Iggy might be the best defender in that conference now.Denver got somebody to replace afflalo that can get other players involved n gaurd the kobes, durants, and westbrooks.

  • Ctk

DenverNuggets season will boil down to how well WilsonChandler can handle the four position ..Faried shouldnt be playin more mins than him..Chandler they most talented offenvise player EASILY

  • http://google J-Ro

And the Nuggets open their season visiting Philly. That’ll be interesting.

  • James

he should be on the SG spot

  • Buyout

I’m very excited to see him play! This trade was good for everyone except ORL! @CTK: Faried was the second best rookie last year imo, he’s their future.

  • Ctk

@Buyout Faried can play no doubt but he cant score..n the Nuggets need a mismatch on the court ..we both know the playoffs is bout matchups..Chandler they best chance to get a advantage

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

Chandler will back up Gallinari at the 3.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

The Nuggets would be pretty scary if Chandler could play the two. A starting five of Lawson, Chandler, Iggy, Gallo and McGee is actually a very scary unit. Particularly if Gallo or Lawson become better scorers in isolation. That lineup only has one poor defender, three good defenders and one great one. Karl needs to make it happen.

  • Ctk

Chandler is a better player than Gallinari…Faried shouldnt be starting..if they care bout winnin n the playoffs

  • http://thahiphopcorner.com Kevin

I might have to buy League Pass just to see the Nuggets on a nightly basis. Lawson, Iggy, Gallo, Chandler, McGee, Brewer, Faried that’s a squad bound to have plenty of highlights

  • Brad09

    great fit

  • Rik Smits Mullet

    must cosign Allenp and Kevin

this team gonna be great. could be like the pistons a couple of years back. No real stars but still killing opponents.

  • steve

I know it is a softer society nowadays, but you grown men have got to stop referring to another grown man as “Iggy”. Iggy? Really?? Iggy?

  • Rell

    My new Squad on 2k13

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ Corky

    ^Shutup steve

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/tray24 T-Ray

Cosign Allen with that lineup they possibly could have beaten LA last year(glad they didn’t). That team would be hard to guard.

  • steve

@Corky – your name is Corky, ’nuff said. Corky and Iggy went skipping through the forest

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

    ^Haha, kinda funny.
Anyway, IGGY should play the 2 spot…
Why would you have Wilson Chandler playing the 2 spot when he’s better at playing the 3 and 4, and you have a player that is better at playing the 2 spot already there?
    Ty Lawson/Andre Miller
    Wilson Chandler/Danilo Gallinari
    Kenneth Faried
    Javale McGee/Timofey Mozgov
That’s a solid team. They would give anyone a scare.

  • ChristianBulleN

Gallinari is a beast, and should start.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Iggy tried playing the two guard in Philly, it went poorly. He’s better at the 3 where he’s not called upon to be a scoring option and can get different looks on the floor.
Chandler is the better shooter, he should be the one spotting up more. Neither of them is best at the 2, which is why I said the plan is contingent upon Chandler figuring out how to play the position.

  • iknowmybasketball

My guess for the nuggets starting lineup is: Lawson, AI, Danilo, Faried, McGee

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ The Promise

Losing Nene hurts more than you people are realizing..

  • eZ

Lawson can be a shooting guard, because mcgee is obviously a point center. He can go coast to coast and take of from the three point line.
Seriously though chandler playedna lot at the two and later four spot in nyc, he did well. He will be their sixt man and should try to be as versatile as possible, playing 2,3,4.
I think iknowmybasketball is right. Iggy can skip along as a Sg defensively. Gallo can step out for spot jumpshots on set halfcourt possesions. In other words he will switch positions on halfcourt O, but will be on the perimeter on D for breakouts.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

    lol @ Steve…

  • riggs

    shut up steve.

  • Steve

riggy and iggy dress like ms. piggy. hahaha come on guys! Grow up! IGGY? Just say that out loud one time. Like if he walked in the door and you said, “hey Iggy”. You know other people in the room would be like, “wonder what those 2 have going on?” and Andre would be like, “man you are going to have to stop calling me ‘Iggy’”. Grown man. Iggy. Damn. Lot of dudes born in the 70′s and 80′s wondering what happened to the male sex. And I think we all miss 2pac. I wish he would have heard you call another grown man Iggy! Clown @ss niggys

  • http://theillustrationboard.tumblr.com/ Stepfan

Have Gallo come off the bench as 6th man. Wilson Chandler at the 2.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

I think they should start Gallo and Faried, gives them more versatility with Gallo and more toughness with Faried.

  • T-Money

allen – you don’t have to shoot or even be a scorer to play 2-guard anymore. since most of the big-time scorers nowadays play the 1 and the 3, there’s a lot of 2-guards like thabo, stevenson, bogans who just defend. of course, iggy is way better than that but his lack of shooting won’t be exposed in denver at the 2 because there’s lawson and gallo at the 1 and 3. in philly, he was playing with wings that couldn’t shoot like turner and thad young so he had to force things. he’ll be just fine at the 2 defending the top perimeter player on the other side.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    You could be right.

  • http://thahiphopcorner.com Kevin

Didnt Andre shoot 39% from 3 last season? I think that’s good enough for him to play the 2. I think he’d be fine playing that spot. I say start Chandler at the 3, Gallo at the 4. I would keep Faried on the bench and bring his energy with the second unit

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

He took 3 three pointers and made one. Well, 3.1 and 1.2

  • Nope

I’m sure Karl will experiment with a variety of lineups. He’s already said he’s not afraid to have three SFs on the floor at once. I guarantee the starting lineup on opening night will not be the starting lineup after the all-star break. These are all excellent players, but some will have better seasons than others. Entertaining as hell, though, that’s for sure.

  • LA Huey

co-sign T-Money. The 2 & 3 are pretty much interchangeable these days if you have the requisite size and quickness.

  • http://www.nba.com/knicks danpowers

he is excited and he will have some nice time in denver. id just love to see him on a contending team. iggy is a good guy and deserves it to get a ring b4 he retires

  • LA Huey

Who’ll be more exciting to watch: Denver or Minnesota?

  • http://thahiphopcorner.com Kevin

I say Denver. McGee, Iggy, Faried, Chandler, and Brewer with Miller and Lawson they could be the next Lob City

  • KC

Us sixers fans are also excited that he is a denver nugget

    Last two comments FTW.
Sorry a dudes moniker is Iggy… LMAO

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Huey, personally I’m going to love watching the T-Wolves next year.
    Rubio(at some point will start here)Alexey Shved/Ridinour/Barea
Roy(if healthy will start, if not gaping hole here)
    Kirilenko/Chase Budinger
To me that is an exciting team. Not “lob city” exciting and they don’t have the speed of Denver’s exciting pace, but just a mesh of interesting talents will make them interesting. AK-47 immediately makes them a better defensive team than last year.

  • LA Huey

I’m guessing that 1982 and shutup listen to drake and weezy. But honestly speaking, when did people start calling him that?

  • justin

It is a wack-@$$ name no doubt, but that’s how these cats roll nowadays. Regardless, when did people start calling him that? I can only recently remember hearing people refer to him as Iggy. And I am a huge ‘zona fan, for what its worth..

  • LA Huey

    7:22 comment was not me.

Lake, Nuggets will make Sportscenter more but the Timberwhites will have the kind of highlights true hoopheads love but not sexy enough for the casual fan.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

    Glad you agree.
T-Wolves could/should be a playoff team to watch out for.
Sacramento will be fun to watch if they do, well ya know, what they should do. T-Robb is going to be an exciting rookie. DMC showing he’s 3rd best center in the L. Hopefully Tyreke returns to rookie form(what??!!??)..
Really though, Golden State is totally a dark horse also.
    West is exciting overall.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Gdub

This comment is not me ha. @LA Huey and Justin – no clue, only recently I guess as I live right outside of Philly and never heard anyone call him that. We call him AI or Dre. I can promise you that dudes from Philly aren’t calling nobody “Iggy”

  • http://www.mensa.org/workout.php shutup

I don’t listen to Drake or Weezy. I didn’t start calling this dude Iggy and honestly before this post I don’t think I ever refereed to him at all. It’s just some one trying to impose a standard from a fictitious historical standpoint is well at the very minimal; hypocritical, if not down right ironic. People complain about tight pants now but men have been wearing tights, and tight jeans from before the 70′s(not that I wear skinny jeans) FYI Tupac was a very skilled actor, if you believe he was a gangster so be it, gangster @$$ musical theater major.LMAO.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

“Dudes from Philly aren’t calling nobody Iggy.”
This site gets better every day.
Pac was the best Rapper/Actor in history.
    Mos Def is 2nd.
Will Smith IMO is not a great actor. That doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy him. He’s one of my favorites. Love him in I-Robot, Pursuit of Happiness, and I Am Legend, but he’s not as good as Pac or Mos Def at acting, and is one of the worst rappers of all time(sorry).
Eminem is also good, but not great by any stretch.
Mary Mark is the greatest white rapper turned actor lol.

  • http://www.mensa.org/workout.php shutup

i f()ks wit Mos Def on both fronts. He was really good on Dexter.

  • http://www.mensa.org/workout.php shutup

I think Jay-Z is the MJ of rapping, definitely has the most storied career and most success of any rapper to date. Head to head if you can only take one track from any rapper’s portfolio he stands up pretty well too. Whats your top 5 songs from the “best” rappers? I’ll go top 5 rappers in no order Jay-z, Tupac, Biggie, Eminem and DMX.

  • SeanMagicJuan

The best rapper/actor is Ice T.

  • SeanMagicJuan

And yes Hov is the MJ of rap.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Gdub

Jay-Z had a nice run from 95-2003, then retirement ruined him. So bad now. Eminem, 2Pac (not the best lyricist, but best all around I think – passion, heart, thoughtfulness, hardcore, heartfelt, etc.), Method Man, Biggie. DMX was definitely a nice one, but if you look at the length of his career its hard to put him up there. Redman has always been good, as has Mos Def. Nas was good, Biggie had a great flow (got better on Life after Death for sure), even Lupe Fiasco has some nice mixtapes and flows, but I would never put him in the “all-time” category. Rakim. If Snoop had kept his flow that he had on “Doggystyle” he would be in the discussion no doubt, but it didn’t happen. So, I will go with:

-Eminem (best rapper ever, nobody wants it with him. Old school, can freestyle, write, disses people in their own songs, best seller, etc.)
    -Pac (best all around)
-Method Man (lifetime achievement award. Never sold out his style)
-Mos Def (thoughtful, educated, great word play)
-Biggie (puff daddy should wake up everyday thanking him! Although a lot of it is on hype considering he only put out 2 cd’s really, which sounded nothing alike. Great flow, even when he just spelled his name.)

  • justin

I wish we could have like 5 different categories. Best rapper, best r&b singer, best guitar player, best band, best dj (although that would be hard since there are so many, and everybody has that one friend/uncle who held it down at parties back in the day haha)

  • http://www.nba.com/knicks danpowers

eminem just sells good coz all the white middle class kids can project themselves into his figure and they are the biggest market for rap. same with pac plus he had the thugs additionally to the white kids. when ure talkin about white rappers id put action bronson or necro over eminem. you also forgot to put mf doom, guru and some others in that list tho when talking about the elite guys skill-wise

  • Basketball_iQ

Chandler has come off the bench before its not a new role for him… Faried WILL START.. Don’t be stupid… He was too too beastly last year plus they have very little outside of him & javale to bang inside vs a very big western conference.

  • http://www.mensa.org/workout.php shutup

I hate when people don’t give Em his due, yes he’s white I get that, but lyrically he is in rare air. Jay-Z has had good albums post 2003 and great songs, there are some gems on American Gangster (despite it being a concept album). Method Man is in the same mold as a Busta Rhymes- great Cameo’s, really good songs but so hard to listen to a full album by them. DMX is on my list because for a year before It’s Dark and Hell is Hot he was on everybody else’s songs and killin them; 24hrs to live, Usual Suspects, 4,3,2,1. As for killer lyricists Joe Budden, Cassidy, and Fabalous have some great mixtapes.

  • http://www.twitter.com/WutUpThooo WutUpThooo

Dre Dala is gonna do his thing on the nuggets, run n gun with a defensive stopper with athletic players

  • Nope

O like Mos Def’s squad: “My dream team would be myself, Black Thought, MF Doom, Jay Electronica and Nas”. I stand by him that they would wreck ANY combination of rappers in battle. I’m not a huge MF Doom fan, so maybe sub him out for Andre 3k and you’ve got yourself a deal. Nas has the best flow of any rapper out there. Nobody tells a story like Nas does.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

You are all a bunch of queermosexuals, and that makes me excited.

  • justin

Take sales out of it, cause its irrelevant. It depends on a lot of things, that is for sure. Kind of like contracts with NBA players. By that I am saying DeAndre Jordan will prob make more in his first 8 years than Hakeem did in his entire career, but if they played it would be a massacre. Action Bronson is cool, but as far as rap goes he is still in the beginning stages (elementary rhyming – 99% of his raps only the last word/syllable rhymes). He’ll get better, but Eminem would probably destroy his career right now. Necro? Man, are you serious?? Dude has been out longer than Eminem and 95% of the world doesn’t even know who he is. In this day and age, if you are THAT good, people will know you. Eminem and Andre3000 are probably the most gifted lyricists ever, in their primes. Could you imagine Andre3000 battling Necro. Oh lawdddd. He’d go back to playing guitar

  • Sundance

Iggy ?…….. His name is Andre Iguodala!

  • justin

@Shutup – yeah you are right about Method Man and Busta. Hard to listen to an entire album for sure. Great rappers no doubt, but its kinda the same thing over and over again. Canibus was good too, but that was short lived. Jay-Z has done some great things, but Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint and The Black Album are his best BY FAR in my opinion. However, I will say that if those 3 are your best albums, that ain’t too bad! I like Nas, but only bits and pieces. Still though, in high school smoking and listening to “It Was Written” will always bring back good memories. It Was Written, ATLiens, All Eyez on Me, etc., etc. Man, those were some good times..

  • Rodger Bohn

This dude said Action Bronson, Necro, and MF Doom are better than Eminem. Lawd have mercy! Good god almighty. MF Doom don’t even show up at his own shows!!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

@nope wtf if you’re going for storytelling then 3k is the best by a lot not Nas. For storybook rappers I’d put 1. 3k 2. Lupe 3. Goodie Mob 4. Scarface 5. L Boogie with special homage to Nas, Dead Prez, Slick Rick, and Atmosphere

  • ReHeat

Slug has been holdin down the underground for a while now. Ant’s beats r some of the very best out there imo. Atmosphere’s dope.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Chinese Oppenheimer

Nas is the best story teller and it’s not particularly close. Even on his garbage albums he tells a story better than most of these dudes. Face is right there with him. Damn I hate this new generation smfh. Same lil kids who think the “Dougie” was a dance invented by some kids from Texas.

  • http://www.twitter.com/_dfrance dfrance

@Shutup, no love for Nas? And LakeShow, Will Smith isn’t a good actor???? That’s kinda crazy, dude is one of the best IMO. Not a role he can’t tackle. He wasn’t a great lyricist, but dude has classic songs. I haven’t experience a summer where I didn’t hear Summertime on the radio at least once.

  • Rodger Bohn

lol at Chinese Oppenheimer who said, “Nas is the best story teller and it’s not particularly close” then 1 sentence later goes: “Face is right there with him.” Whooo boy haha early morning giggles

  • http://www.mensa.org/workout.php shutup

I like Nas, but after it was written i’ll take a few songs here a few songs there, One Mic and Made You Look were real good and his new album is surprisingly good. I think DMX’s storytelling is severely underrated. Atmosphere is sick (well Slug is) saw them live at the House of Blues, they put on a good show. All eyez on me got serious play in my CD player while I rode the A-train through Brooklyn, and my favorite Jay-z album is in my lifetime Vol.1. “Where I’m From” got one of the sickest beats ever, that was the first real CD I bought with my own money, bootlegs and mixtapes were big in NYC at that time. Dead Prez is dope and so is Big Pun, f-ed with the Lox hard after they jumped off bad-boy, Wu-Tang forever, those RZA beats are classic. If you wanna go obscure Tech and K’Naan are solid contributors. My guilty pleasure back in the day was Bubba Sparxx.

  • http://www.nba.com/knicks danpowers

yup nas is in his own league when it comes to story telling. but there are so many other good guys out there that wed allways leave some guys out that would deserve to be mentioned. i didnt read much about masta ace here, a long hot summer is a masterpiece imo. and i dont think that record sales are a sign of quality. normally the oposite is the case nowadays. just look at all the trash that has been out there in pop charts or total record sales. justin bieber, britney spears, 50 cent, all these RnB fa***ts , etc thats sheer trash of absolutely no cuality, fast food for the masses. i dont want to say that many sales mean that smth is bad, there are exceptions like nas, biggie or jay-z. eminem has got some skills, sure, but the content of his lyrics are mostly just whining stuff so that teens who feel misunderstood by their parents can identify themselves with it. thats why id prefer bronselino or necro over him. sure, necro has been out for a while but “whos your daddy” still beats anything eminem put out there by far. bronson aint got all the techniques yet but itll come by the time and gotta love his style that guy is just real. and you dont gotta like mf doom but this guy is deep n jus great when it comes to flow n lyrics.

  • http://www.mensa.org/workout.php shutup

Renegade with Jay-Z and Eminem is one of the sickest Jay collabos. The Blueprint 2 got some secret killers on it, if you want it condensed get the blueprint 2.1. Meet the Parents and Guns and Roses. You want a good mixtape? Bed Stuy Meets Blue Eyes; Biggie and Frank Sinatra it sounds weird but they pulled it off.

  • http://Slamonline.com John

@danpowers – you had me until you said the content of Em’s lyrics are whining stuff for teens, etc. Cut off the TV and the radio singles, listen to his old stuff and all of his other stuff that isn’t commercial and you’ll find at least 40 songs (honestly, probably more) that are better than the best rhyme Necro every thought of saying. Bubba Sparxx would smash Necro, and you are comparing him to Slim? F outta here, son! “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth (keyboard) and remove all doubt.” -Lincoln

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I refuse to call him AI.
Don’t know him well enough to call him Dre.
And I always misspell Iguodala when I’m rushing.

  • http://www.soundcloud.com/tray-5 T-Ray

One of the best verse I’ve ever heard is 3 stacks verse on Rick Ross’s “Sixteen”. Say what you want about Ross but he gets great features and that song easily is the best one on God Forgives I Don’t.

  • LA Huey

Fresh Prince was a great rapper. Will Smith is just average as one.

  • http://www.nba.com/knicks danpowers

@T-Ray: i also like ross for partyin or cruisin but come on, that guy doesnt belong into that list as long as it is about rap skills. he a nice producer and knows how to make money out of nothing and u gotta give him props for that but one of the best rappers out there? come on…

  • http://www.soundcloud.com/tray-5 T-Ray

I didn’t say he was one of the best I said he is great at getting features. I may only be 20 but I know my hip hop. That’s why I was highlighting 3ks because I think he’s one of the best rappers.

  • http://Slamonline.com Wondaboi

@Allenp – let it go dude.
@T-Ray – yep, yep. Andre3000 is ridiculous. Him and Eminem have word play like none other.

Jay-Z is a legend but would choke if he tried to spit some of their verses. Not hating on the dude, he was great at what he did, but his rhymes were elementary as far as syllables and such. That’s NY’s style, so its all good. Being equal doesn’t mean you are the same.

  • Tyquan

There’s not too many teams that trade their best player in franchise history and a year or so later they don’t miss a beat most casual fans will say Dwight going to the Lakers is the best scenario for that team in this particular trade but Denver is a top 5 team in the West with Iguodala and yes they start him at the two with Ty Lawson in the backcourt. Wilson Chandler, Gallo, and McGee in the frontcourt and bring Faried, Brewer, and Andre Miller off the bench but Faried is the wild card because if he shows steady improvement during the season then its gonna be impossible to leave him on the bench so in other words the Nuggets are straight without Melo.

  • http://www.mensa.org/workout.php shutup

@Wondaboi you obv never heard Jay ish before reasonable doubt he had a machine gun flow, he slowed it down much like Jet-Li to appeal to the masses. Elementary syllables ; NY style, you lost me. So I guess everybody was a fan of The Love Below? you know where Andre 3K was singing and ish (Shake it like a Polaroid picture, lmao), don’t get me wrong I’m a big fan of outkast but Big Boi was the lyrical big gun of the group. You want storytelling? go listen to 10 min by Joe budden.

  • http://Xvideos.com Ron

Best lyricist? Mike jones hands down the best.. Who is?

  • http://gmail.com z

    1) there will always be only ONE ai for me, sorry
2)steve’s right iggy sucks as a nickname, though not because of any psycho/sexual reason
3)youre talking new york mc’s and gonna not mention Pharaoh monch? Have NONE of you heard this guy flow? Lyrically, flow, voice, topics, storytelling, any measure this cat is the greatest mc from nyc ever. Mad cool points lost lol
