Brian Scalabrine is Not Ready to Retire

Brian Scalabrine, who’s had a storied 11-year NBA career, is hoping to receive a training camp invite in the next few weeks. The Chicago Bulls recently informed Scalabrine he will not be invited to return to the team, but the fan favorite and extraordinarily hard-working forward feels like he can still contribute, and is not ready to call it a career just yet. In a revealing article, Scal says he’s not going to leave the game until a team tells him he’s just “not good enough.” From NBA.com: “‘I’d be discouraged if I just quit,’ said Scalabrine, who remains without an NBA team after being told by the Bulls he will not be invited to return. ‘Everyone keeps telling me it’s not quitting (taking an already offered TV job). But I want someone to tell me, ‘We don’t want you.’ I’ve always been a tough cut to make. I want someone to tell me I’m not good enough. I just want to see what happens.’ Scalabrine spent five seasons in Boston — the last three under Tom Thibodeau, before signing with the Bulls in 2010. ‘You don’t measure him in stats,’ said Tom Thibodeau, who added he is disappointed to lose Scalabrine. ‘He knows how to win; he helps you win. To me, he’s invaluable with what he brings to a team.”

With all the jokes that come with the name Scalabrine, its safe to say he really does have a love for the game and any team willing to add a player that will work with anybody and bring great atmosphere to the team both on and off the court, should sign him…

  • King

Somebody better sign THE GREATEST PLAYER TO EVER TOUCH A BASKETBALL but then again the nba max is way too little for him

i hope the knicks wave either stat melo or chandler to bring him in on a max contract

  • hushabomb

Every team, arena and fan will never tire of screaming out “SCAL-A-BRINE”. Think what he can do on a young team like the Bobcats or Kings. If they kept on Lindsey Hunter to help out DRose, I reckon they can keep Scal on to mentor the young guys up and coming in the NBA. SCAL-A-BRINE!!!!!

  • Riggs

yall sleeping on scals now, but he would make a great assistant coach.

  • ti-sizzle

this dude is extremely hard working. straight from the local Y into the NBA, it’s practically unheard of! he’s an inspiration to all hoopers everywhere, from ymca in new york to cali

  • Heals

I’m torn on this one; I’d love to see another fan base get to enjoy the Scalabrine experience, but he’d be (and has been) great behind the mic and probably get much more camera time than being 10th man…

Note that the Lakers have already made some big championship trades and signings. If they want to seal the deal, is all I’m sayin…

  • LA Huey

Nobody’s ready for him to retire.

  • Da Real

It’s crazy how this guy can have a ten year career and some of these other big time talents last 3-5 years. Hard work = long career.

The Scal Man will be back, whatever team he’s on, I’m on that bandwagon.

I still remember the play where he locked up Lamar full court in the finals. This dude needs to be on someone’s roster.

Scal, you aren’t good enough, you aren’t good enough. Get advice from your fans and work on your game in the D-League. Find your preferred style and focus on that until everyone in the NBA believes you’ve improved dramatically.
In the meantime accept you aren’t good enough to play on the NBA and work hard because you suck right now.

Imagine if a dude like Eddy Curry had the heart and work ethic of Scal…Love that dude’s attitude and determination.

^Watch him drop a 30-20-10 triple double on your favorite team next year…
    You just wait.

I love Scal. I am a massive fan of the Bulls and the different personalities on this squad make them just so fun to watch. Not too happy with the pick up of N.Robinson, just do not like his personality.(Little Man Syndrome) I mean props for winning dunk contests at his height but what a goof. Anyways back to the White Mamba. It would be a shame to lose Scal.
No matter what squad your on I will be cheering for ya buddy.
And keep up the awesome articles SLAM.

Hope he gets a spot somewhere. He’ll do great on TV or asst coach somewhere, he ain’t gonna starve, good for him.

He could lead the suns straight into post-nash era success and not even touch the ball . . . This is how great an influence he holds. Really though I’m going home after work tonight and find which team he is on in 2K and trading for him.

Scal was great in ‘cop land’. Superboy!

  • Brad09

lol is he honestly a hard working player? does he get a lot of shots up lol? i really dont know the answer. One thing scal really does seem to do is keep a locker room loose, should be a great tv guy.

His post finals interview straight after game 7 for the celts was the finest hour in fhe modern era celts playoff stage.
