Carmelo Anthony Says the Knicks Have No Rivalry With the Brooklyn Nets

Once the ’12-13 season is in action and professional basketball teams are hooping it up in both Manhattan and Brooklyn, fans and media will surely attempt to turn the two squads into rivals, creating some kind of Battle For New York storyline that is sure to capture the attention of the NYC masses. Carmelo Anthony isn’t exactly denying the inevitability of all this, but he definitely is pushing it aside for now, claiming the Knicks and Nets have zero rivalry for the time being. Per Newsday: ”What the Knicks hope will be a run into June officially begins Nov. 1 at Barclays Center against the Nets. Just don’t call it a rivalry with their crosstown opponent. Not at the moment, anyway. ’There’s no rivalry between us and Brooklyn right now,’ Anthony said. ‘It starts on that first game. We’ll see what happens with that first game. But as of right now, we are focused on ourselves. We are not really focused on nobody else.’”

Knicks have thé better front Court, eventhough NJs is pretty Good. NJ has a far better front

  • ALD

it started last year when deron lighted them up with 8 trifectas!

Like Melo sorta said, after Nov. 1st, this WILL be a rivalry! Two prideful teams battling for New York City! If the teams dont feel its a rivalry, the media will definitely make it one!

it was supposed to say NJ has a far better BACK court

  • LA Huey

The starters in the frontcourt for these teams are going to be matched up with their polar opposites.

FACT: The Knicks have absolutely no rivalry with the Nyets. It’s like saying the Yankees have a rivalry with the Mets or the Giants have a rivalry with the Jets.

im no nyers but didnt the nets make the Finals a couple of times about a decade ago. the knicks havent been relevant since the last lockout.

It’s a rivalry. It’s always been a rivalry. It will be an even bigger rivalry now that the Nets have an opportunity to be competent and the Knicks are semi-competent. This might be a season-long race to determine the 4-5 seeds.

Not yet but give it a couple years. Shit. Will. Get. Real.

  • nbk

depends on your definition of rivalry

  • The Mauve Avenger

Fans wildin out on each other outside MSG

  • nbk

then probably not. i doubt there are many New Yorkers who are already in fighting mode over the Nets. But then again, they are New Yorkers…

    Not a rivalry….Nets = Clippers

  • datkid

He swears it’s not a rivalry… until the nets smack flames outta him. which they will. lmao

  • chingy

    Knicks =/= Lakers…not even close

  • YKnot

Not a rivalry till you play and somebody wins! Speaking of flame am I the only one who thinks Melo looks like Waka Flocka Flame minus the dreads?

I laughed at, “What the Knicks hope will be a run into June officially begins Nov. 1″

Hopefully both of these teams play in the first round of the playoffs. I trust the nets in terms of being a 4-5 seed but I still don’t trust the knicks. Melo-Amare still won’t play defence, Felton is still fat coming off an abysmal season and i am not sure if Shumpert will be back 100%… when will Shump come back? The Knicks can still be exploited. not saying the nets can’t but Lopez is finally going to be 100% healthy (hopefully he can improve on his first 2 yrs versus his abysmal last 2), Deron will be Deron, Joe will be the 2nd option like he should be and I trust Gerald’s Defense, rebounding and corner 3. we’ll see. Oh also i trust avery Johnson with talent… I don’t trust Woodson. Lets not even get to owners. its clear whom the better owner is and its not Dolan.

Melo will be beast this year

  • robb

    no he won’t

  • SirGrey

You gotta brush it off, same as the Celtics did with the Knicks when they called them rivals (Celtics had a bigger reason to brush it off). Can’t call it a rivalry until I see them take blows at each other come playoff time for some time. Everything else is hype.

The media will create one. No doubt

  • GetReal

It is a rivalry now because the nets are better and in BK,NY. It wasn’t a rivalry lately because the nets was so sorry. I would not be surprised one bit if the nets be better then the knicks.
