Chauncey Billups on New-Looked Lakers: ‘Don’t Nobody Scare Me, Man’

Clippers guard Chauncey Billups, who’s as tough an NBA player as there is, said that while he respects what the cross-town rival Lakers have accomplished this offseason, people shouldn’t count out his Clippers—or the other 29 teams—just yet. The former Finals MVP is currently rehabbing his left Achilles tendon, with hopes of being ready for L.A.’s regular-season opener. Via The Detroit Free Press: “‘They are trying to stack the deck over there, but I tell you what—I’m very pleased with my team and what we’ve been able to do and I will just say this – don’t nobody scare me, man,’ said the former Piston with a chuckle. Billups, who was Finals MVP when leading the Pistons to the 2004 NBA title, spoke briefly with the Free Press over the phone Saturday afternoon and said his rehab is ‘going well.’ Billups, 35, suffered the injury in the February and some wondered if the 15-year veteran was facing the end of his career.”

Allen summed up wat the lakers biggest variable will be this season pretty well: kobe’s attitude. When he’s making the smart, team first plays, reading the floor well and looking to involve the bigs early in the clock, i think he’s still the best (naaah i cant say that…he’s 2nd for now) player there is. And when he played that way during his prime he was on par with mj or any other guard thats ever played hands down…it’s just those instances were all too rare. I cant blame him. If you or i were as talented, skilled and dedicated to a given craft as he is to bball we’d wanna explore the full range of possibilities, see how far it can take us…does that mean we’re selfish? But he’s gotta realize that those days are over now (which im very confident that he does), play this season the right way and try to build chemistry for the playoffs. That being said, i think miami beats the lakers in the finals. Lebrons a friggin beast. They got no excuse to not win every year with him in his prime.

I hear ya BM, thanx I always thought it was the no. 4 pick that came from the Mo Williams trade. Dumb f%#kin luck.

Ya the Clippers screwed that up royally. But they might have not gotten Chris Paul if they had drafted Kyrie. Interesting stuff.

Always seems like Allenp brings up the white folks. It’s okay, I’d be salty too if I was black with the name Allen.

I feel like Chauncey needs to start at the 2. Having both him and CP3 on the floor at the same time somewhat decreases Del Negro’s overall effect on the game. Which is kinda important.

Tall lanky defenders with decent lateral quickness bother Kobe the most. Esp. if it’s in the second half of games, he’s more likely to face up to him and shoot over the top a long ranger. That’s the problem LAL neesd to take care of.

Lakers 3 maybe 4 games outta 5. Cp3 will beat Nash. But what will je do once he sees Pau and Howard down low. But if Cp3 gets a lot of turnovers and fasbreak points they might get a W.

I remember a few years ago NBK would say some pretty ridiculous things, & I would just skip over his comments, now I read them & agree with them too. Dude got smart. Funny how times change.
AllenP with the subtle ‘eh’ in his Canadian joke ribbing. I see you.

chris paul vs steve nash is a pretty even matchup – atleast history says so. Head to head CP3 won 9 times to Nash’s 10 victories. CP has scores about ten more points a game, but they shoot the same fg% and have the same assist numbers.

  • pposse

does chris paul still wine and dine other pg’s in the league the night before he plays them?

Thank you for catching that Hursty.

Canada is not worse than the US at anything except cable.
On “Hardwood Classics” for NBA TV Canada, they had a marathon of Toronto vs. Milwaukee regular season games from 2007-2011.
    I sh!t you not.

Also add Chandler Parsons to the list of guys who guard Kobe well (relatively speaking, of course).
