Dwight Howard Reportedly Headed to Lakers in Four-Way Trade

It’s over! Dwight Howard is officially a Laker—or at least will be after a call is made to the league office Friday morning. As part of the deal, Andrew Bynum is headed to Philadelphia, with multiple pieces from the Lakers, Magic, 76ers and Nuggets moving around. More details, via ESPN: “A four-team trade that would send Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers is complete, multiple sources told ESPN on Thursday night. A source with direct knowledge of the talks told ESPN.com’s Marc Stein the Lakers will receive Howard, the Denver Nuggets will acquire Andre Iguodala, the 76ers will receive Andrew Bynumand Jason Richardson, and the Magic will get Arron Afflalo, Al Harrington, Nikola Vucevic and one protected future first-round pick from each of the other three teams. In addition, the Magic will be getting other pieces, including 76ers No. 1 draft pick Moe Harkless, a source told Stein. Sources close to the process told Stein and ESPNLosAngeles.com’s Ramona Shelburne that a trade call with the league office has been scheduled for Friday to secure the necessary NBA approval to make the deal official. Lakers forward Pau Gasol had been in and out of talks, sources told Shelburne. Earlier Thursday, Yahoo! Sports, citing sources, reported that talks of a four-team trade involving Howard have taken place this week and have ‘grown serious.’”

Haha you made yourself clear, don’t worry. As for my PF rankings…
    Greatest: Duncan, Malone, Garnett, Barkley
    Best: Duncan, Barkley, Garnett, Malone
I think that looks good. Centers is trickier…
Greatest: Russell, Kareem, Shaq, Wilt, Olajuwon
Best: Wilt, Kareem, Olajuwon, Shaq, Russell
    Anybody else wanna join in?

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Wilt is greater and better than Shaq. Olajuwon is better and I would say greater as well, but the latter is more debatable. IMO it’s no contest between Wilt and Shaq.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

KOBEEEEEEEEEE! Jordan Sucks! Kobe Rules. We’re gonna be 2013 champs and all Miami and OKC can do is watch,

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

    screw HEAT

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Lakers suck, all Kobe is is a ball hog!

  • Bravo

Lakers gonna kill it enough said

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

The Center’s are extremely difficult. Idk, at their peak, i’d take Wilt, but after that, idk, i’d probably just rank them the same as you, but it’s crazy difficult to know for sure. i wish i got to actually see more Wilt and how he effected games. I know individually he could do whatever he wanted, but I also know he wasn’t a killer. All of the “LeBron doesn’t have the killer instinct talk” is how you can define Wilt. Wilt was more worried about seeming great and being loved at the same time. Hakeem, Russell, Shaq & even Kareem to an extent just wanted to kill everyone. But what’s different for all of them is the circumstances that shaped them as player. Shaq for example, idk if he would have ever become the absolute force he became without that Finals series against Hakeem in ’95. Getting destroyed like that was an eye opening experience for him. Something Wilt never really went through, mainly because Russell wasn’t punishing guys offensively.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Yeah Lakers are going to win for sure. I’m just worried how they’re going to run their offense. To many egos and not a good enough coach. If they figure it all out, 2013 champs for sure!

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

    LAA BABY

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

I just wonder, if Wilt actually had someone to challenge him on an offensive level (Kareem, Shaq) in his prime, would he have worked harder? Honestly, sometimes I think he was just toying with the league. I mean, what dude just says he wants to lead the league in assists and does it? I could argue putting him higher than Jordan on the “Best” list.

  • IGGI

OMG!! The Magic are so stupid they got nothing, they could have traded DH to the Nets for a better deal. This deal get them NADA. The worse trade ever…

  • Suvamupadhyay

Wilt would’ve dominated no matter the era. It is hard as it is to score 100 points and get that many rebounds regardless. Shaq was just not as serious and motivated enough player. it’s just how some people are. .. And Teddy-The-Bear quit trolling, or pick a side!

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

i totally get it. you definitely can, and that does play into my belief that the 66-67 76ers were the greatest team of all time. but Wilt’s whole championship count is the problem. At his best when he averaged 50 the team went 49 and 31 and they lost in the East finals. — in 66-67 he put up 24, 24, and 8 – amazingly ridiculous numbers that are more than boosted by the style/speed/rules of the game back then. the numbers are so screwed up that it’s impossible to rely on that too define the player. Especially considering that team had 3 future hall of famers, Billy Cunningham, Chet Walker, and Hal Greer all being ranked typically in or around the top 100 players of all time. That’s a stacked team to win a title with. So it’s not like he overwhelmed his way as an individual to win, or even really carried any team to a title, and that really hurts him in my book.

Jodie Meeks got signed too, not a bad pick up. Now there’s only 2 destinations for players who want to win quickly. It’s Lakers and Heat only.

afflalo, harrington, euro guy, moe hark, mcroberts, eyenga, 3 first round picks, 2 second round picks isnt that bad for a team building for the future. they have a lot of flexibility and no crazy contracts…besides hedo but im sure hes gone by the time the season starts. lakers got better but so did philly n denver.

mayne!! This thread is crazier than bill clinton, charlie sheen, dennis rodman, and bernie going on a week long drug binge in amsterdam

  • http://www.slamonline.com nbk

    No Walt Frazier Taylor?

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

I like a lot of that JT. But I can’t not put Wilt as the best center. And Russell NEEDS to be on the greatest list. Drexler should be ahead of Wade.

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

Good lists taylor, but ugh, you’d better move lebron to the front, at least the best line, I suppose you can save greatest for a couple years.

  • http://Slamonline.com Black Mamba

    Lboogie are you flat dumb?
This mixes up my OKC matchup.
    They have a better PG
    we have a better SG
I’m not even going to get into SF again
Gasol is now better than Ibaka because of Nash and Howard
We have a way better center now.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

nbk, damn. I messed up on that one. Take out Kidd/KJ, insert Frazier.
Caboose, I thought long and hard about that one but I think Malone had a better career (outside of ring count) than Russell.
Tarzan, maybe LeBron is too low on the best line but I still have Prime Bird being better than current LeBron.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Just saw a stat on NBA TV that said since the NBA/ABA merger in 76, the player with the most 20-20 games is Moses with 109, 67 more than the next guy on the list (Hakeem). That is greatness right there.

  • http://www.slamonline.com nbk

One of the reasons Moses is in my top 10

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

    Wade greater than West?

  • hugo

kobe had arguably the greatest center ever for his 1st 3 rings, and for his mvp ships he had arguably the best 4 and bynum. not to mention prime LO coming off the bench, playing a more-than-significant role. Now kobe has 3 other hall of famers (pau is a sure lock with his international achievements) and it shouldnt even be considered his team imo. I admit that i dont like kobe, but anyone who sincerely thinks that hes more than just one of the pieces now is also biased, plain and simple!

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Taylor, how you gunna feel when Kevin Love smashes Hakeem’s number of 20-20′s?
    Greatness?
    .
Jodie Meeks is a freaking nice sign. I know Howard and Nash are all that matter, but Meeks is great off the bench, shoots lights out, and we needed a shooter and backup PG/SG. Nicely done Mitch. Keep on seducing.

  • lofton

Everyone is forgetting that bynum is a better all-around player than Howard sure he won d player of the year but so did Ben Wallace he just a better walace both r injury prone….

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

Wow, I thought we got a steal when we landed Pau….

  • the king

@Brainwashers chill out the Faker not go win the ship they not getin the ship as long as LBJ at the top of his game

Cheers to Lake and Phantom I’ll see y’all at the parade in June.

  • the king

not go be a parade in L.A.

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/tray24 T-Ray

So as I was saying I’ll see y’all at the parade

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

The worst thing about all of this…I have to root for the Heat…

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

This is so stacked it ain’t even funny:
    1. Nash
    2. Kobe
    3. Peace
    4. Gasol
    5. Dwight
With Antawn Jamison off the bench?? And the Magic end up with Aaron Afflalo and Al Harrington? Unbelievable.

  • the king

not go happen as I was sayin

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/tray24 T-Ray

    Uh huh

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

This is probably one of the most stacked NBA starting lineups ever.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

    Best starting lineups ever?
    —–
66-67 76ers: Jones, Greer, Walker, Jackson, Wilt
86-87 Lakers: Magic, Scott, Worthy, Green, Kareem
85-86 Celtics: Ainge, Johnson, Bird, McHale, Parish
71-72 Lakers: Goodrich, West, McMillan, Happy, Wilt
95-96 Bulls: Harper, Jordan, Pippen, Rodman, Longley.
    —–
    Now tell me, is
12-13 Lakers: Nash, Kobe, Artest, Pau, Dwight
a better starting 5 than those above? My gut says yes…

  • Mike Gilbert

Im sure he wont see this…but all I gotta say is that pposse said like halfway throught the page that MWP had hall of fame credentials………………

  • pposse

He was/still can be imo a premiere defender in the league since his rookie year..never said that he would make the hall of fam.. he was the second best guy on that rockets team that finally got out of the first round with yao and t mac (but tmac wasn’t playin that year) and then pushed the eventual champs la lakers to 7 games…ron ron a proven winner without ever playing on the lakers…annot like some superstars who don’t get out of the first round of the playoffs either…plus don’t forget he lost a full year in his prime bc of the mele in detroit

  • pposse

If artest is the worst player in your starting lineup then your in pretty good shape is all I’m saying

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

Pposse, you don’t still think Kobe is also an elite defender do you?

  • pposse

if kobes assignment is to guard shooting guards then def think he is one of the best to guard that position still..he is still taller than most if not all sg and he is smart enough to anticipate moves before they happen..the sg position in the nba right now is not great in depth so he doesn’t need to be an elite defender…just a good one which he still is..plus out of all players in the league kobe get the most leeway wen it comes to reaching in

  • iceman

playing devil’s advocate: remember shaq and kobe were together from 1996 and didn’t win jack until 2000 when the wolf man aka the Zen Master and 11 time champion Phil Jackson came abroad, let me ask u guys, do u honestly trust Mike Brown’s decision making in a crucial game, or stretch during the playoffs?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

The Lakers probably do have the best starting line of all-time. You have two former MVP’s and a top 3 player and potential MVP himself every season in Dwight. Granted, Kobe and Nash aren’t what they used to be but they are still at least top seven(Nash more so than Bryant because Kobe is still arguably the best SG) at their positions While Dwights the best at his and Pau still being arguably a top five PF.

  • Jerome

Nash is the Coach. What he says goes.
