Dwight Howard Will Reportedly Miss Start of Season

Continuing to recover from April back surgery, Dwight Howard told the media on Friday night that he may not be ready for the Lakers’ opening night. ESPN’s Arash Markazi reports: “Howard also was unsure when exactly he would be cleared by doctors to return to the court. Multiple sources told ESPN that Howard is expected to miss the start of the regular season as he continues to recover from back surgery. ‘My health is great,’ Howard said. ‘I’m getting a lot better and a lot stronger every day. I’m looking forward to the doctor saying you are free to play. I can’t wait for that day.’ Howard and Kupchak were optimistic that day could be before the season opener but made no promises. ‘We’ll see what the doctor says,’ Howard said. ‘If I’m ready for opening night I’ll be there but I’m not going to rush it. A back is very serious, so I’m going to take my time and make sure I’m 100 percent because I want to give everybody 100 percent. I want to give everybody everything I have.’”

We still have mvsteve (way cooler nickname than Black Mamba) and Kobe. If this is true we should sign a solid center. Or move Gasol to center and put in Jamison at forward

The Lakers have to be careful and not rush Howard back. Speaking off experience, back injury/surgery is not to play with.

For some reason, I am sure he won’t be on the court with stitches still in his back and having lots of lower back pain trying to play through it.

they could hold him back till january and they wouldnt suffer, just spread em out and let nash win regular season games like he always does

  • bravo

They should be fine on offense but defence is the question…..

Honestly, this injury is gonna hurt him. Herniated discs are NO JOKE. Y’all saw how Amare did after his disc problems right? I’d be concerned if he hasn’t recovered by October.

  • Rocky

Hmmm what Kind of doctors do you got?
3 years ago, with 25 i had a herniated disc surgery in my lower back. L5/S1. I barely coud Not sit and Walk. After it, i had 4 weeks rehab in a clinic and another 6 weeks rehab with Physiotherapy. Then everything was cool and u didn’t had/have muscles like Dwight, that protect the Spine and discs from the preasure…
I ask myself what they do with him, that it lasts so Long?

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

Rocky: I myself have a herniated disc, same location as you. Some discs cannot be operated on based on their herniations, proximity to nerves, overlap on spins, etc. For example, I wasn’t a candidate for surgery. Instead, I got two years worth of physical therapy and it still bothers me. A non-operable herniated disc is a really depressing thing to have. I don’t think Dwight’s is that bad, but it really is based on how it herniated.

Howard can rest up, for the title run.

Imagine if Dwight doesn’t come back this year and doesn’t sign an extension. LMAO. It would be glorious to see all the Laker fans turn on him.

If Howard does not sign back with Lakers, his career is over. He will get blasted the rest of his career for picking potentially chokeless Dirk led Mavericks over the Lakers. I don’t see it. Howard needs to play well, went Kobe retires, but I think Kobe will play for the Bulls one day or another team. Howard can get the team and be the lead dog.

if he was like Derrick Rose he’d be training already.

Ladidadi, We like to party, We don’t cause trouble, We don’t bother nobody.

This is a stunt. Lakers have too much money and power to NOT let D12 start this season. They want the haters to hate louder! I’m from Toronto, the Raps are my team (not a groupie hopin’ on the wagon), but that LA starting lineup is pretty stupid! If Dwight can’t be fixed fast enough… they’ll buy the cure! Either way, when he starts playing they’re going off!!! That being said… Go Raps!!!!!

A back is very serious? As opposed to any other type of injury requiring months away from the game? Good call, Dwight…

    +1 for that, Justin. Clever.

Thanks Caboose. Music is my second passion behind bball so I never miss an opportunity to quote a legend.
