James Harden ‘Pretty Sure’ He Will Re-Sign With OKC Thunder

Despite some transparent posturing, James Harden admits that he will more than likely re-sign with the OKC Thunder once his contract is up. Reports SI: “Predictably, the always-cagey Sam Presti didn’t reveal anything regarding possible contract extensions for Harden and Serge Ibaka, two soon-to-be fourth-year players who would become restricted free agents next summer if they don’t agree to new deals by Oct. 31. [...] ‘I’m pretty, a hundred percent, I’m pretty sure that I’m going to be in Oklahoma City,’ Harden said. ‘I’ll let my agent and Mr. Presti and [Thunder owner Clay] Bennett discuss all that, so I’ll let them handle that and stay out of it for right now and worry about the USA Olympics.’ When asked if he was at all enamored with the idea of being a more featured player elsewhere, Harden said, ‘I love winning. We have some great guys over here, something special, something I don’t think any other team in the NBA has – young guys who got drafted basically together, year after year after year. We’ve got something special, so I’m focused on what we have and trying to win a championship with these guys.’ Durant, who is well aware that the max deals given to him and Westbrook will make it extremely difficult to keep Harden and Ibaka, was confident as well but acknowledged that it would be tough for Presti to pull it off. ‘I’m positive that it’ll happen,’ Durant said regarding Harden. ‘Like you say, you never know in this league. You never know. All I can do is hope for the best, but James wants to be here. We want him here, and Serge the same way. So we’ll see. I don’t have anything to do with it. I just play ball.’”

Great attitude by both to have especially Harden. Keep the core together for as long as possible. I wouldn’t mind seeing Durant and/or Westbrook restructure their deals in order to fit both “The Beard” and Ibaka together. But then again maybe that’s too tall an order?

you can get another serge… but a james harden is a tad bit more difficult to get

Good move Harden. Don’t take advice from Shannon Brown or Jordan Farmar and overplay your hand.

    Break up the Zombie Sonics.

  • sef

is such a thing even possible to restructure deals?

  • davidR

peak507, i would think it’s the other way around. where else can you find an elite rim protector that can also hit the midrange and ft’s pretty reliably?
although good/great SGs are hard to come by, it’s even harder to replace what serge brings to the table

I’ll never understand the hate that sonics fans have for the thunder. I get that the move left seattle without an nba team but this is not the player’s fault. these are just young extremely talented guys that play good ball together. Be mad at the front office

Cuz people just can’t let things go and catch feelings

I let it go.(kinda) I love Durant. Love Collison. Like the rest of the team.
    Hate the owner…

We’ll see. James and Sam aren’t showing us all their cards quite yet…

I agree with @davidR…if Harden leaves you just up Westbrook and Durant’s minutes and add in another strong bench player similar to Harden. Those guys are like 23, they’ve got enough energy to pick up the slack

“Pretty Sure” until he sees how much money he can make elsewhere. I’m like 90% sure OKC values Ibaka more than Harden. 6’10″ 22 year olds who lead the league in blocks and can hit an 18 footer do not grow on trees.

TTWS3 – Can’t restructure contracts in the NBA. OKC won’t be able to keep Harden AND Ibaka. They’ll have to choose between the two, or amnesty Perk, unload everyone else not on Min deals and veer towards the luxury tax. Tough year ahead.

I’d let Perkins go before I let Harden and Ibaka go. Their young core has to stick together. If Harden goes, suddenly the scoring falls exclusively on Durant and Westbrook. Not good. Let Eric Maynor get back to 100%. Westbrook continue to grow and improve his decision making, Durant continue to get better on defense…this team will be the best team in the West for a while.

his statement just sounds like “if contract terms wont work out for my camp and i end up with the suns its not my fault, itll be either my agents or the thunders responsibility”. well…

Cosign nbk on the ibaka front. Resign serge first and then harden.

  • iceman

amnesty Perk and keep that young core together, its not like Perk did anything in the finals to begin with, so you might as well trim some fat and build up some muscle.

JAMES HARDEN PLEASE DON’t LEAVE OKC THAT’s YOUR BEST CHANCE OF WINNING A TITLE PLAYERS SPENT YEARS CHASING TITLES BUT NEVER CAN WIN ONE CAUSE THEY DON’t HAVE THE SPECIAL TEAM LIKE OKC AND PLUS THEY GO AFTER THE MONEY FOR EX. LIKE STEVE NASH ALL STAR PLAYER BUT NO RING DON’t LEAVE

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/tray24 T-Ray

Harden didn’t do much either or Ibaka for that matter

  • ReHeat

If u think that Harden is higher on Presti’s Priority List then Iblocka then ur higher then Serge.

  • MasterSplinter

@ Headofficial….. Actually Steve Nash did win a ring in 2013, get your facts straight.

  • Mike From Spain

If Harden is resigning with the Thunder, who is going to get Ibaka?

  • biggieman

@MasterSplinter: Awesome name…. haha. but Nash is going to get eaten alive by Russ Westbrook, so you and the rest of LakerNation can keep dreaming! As for Harden and Ibaka, keep them both and get rid of Perkins! As a Thunder fan it is so damn frustrating watching Perk continuously miss layups and dunks, I understand he is an intimidating force in the middle, but the guy is about a athletic and coordinated as a lampshade.
