Mark Cuban Upset Jason Kidd Chose Knicks

When the offseason began, Mark Cuban and Mavericks fans alike were hoping they’d have at least one Hall of Fame point guard on the roster for the ’12-13 season. They’ll be heading into the season with none. Deron Williams spurned his hometown team to stay with the Nets for the move to Brooklyn; Jason Kidd left Dallas for the League’s other New York team, the Knicks. Cuban hasn’t forgotten about either strikeout, though it appears Kidd’s leap to Manhattan really stung him. Talking about the offseason on ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM’s “Ben & Skin Show” this morning, the owner famous for speaking his mind did just that: “I was more than upset. I thought he was coming. I was pissed,’ Cuban said. ‘J-Kidd is a big boy; he can do whatever he wants. But you don’t change your mind like that. That was … yeah. I’m sure I’ll get over it at some point, but as of now, I wouldn’t put J-Kidd’s number in the rafters. It hurt my feelings, period, because I felt that we had developed a relationship, and I thought that he was committed to the organization. It sure seemed that he was. I mean, J-Kidd was active in going out there and talking to Deron Williams the whole time. I guess it was more shocking and surprising than anything else.”

In my 20+ years as a fan of this league, I’ve never once felt sorry for an owner in basketball related issues. Business is business when it’s what they want, and players are traitors when they do what they want.

  • LA Huey

Jason Kidd left the Mavs like the Mavs ditched Jason Terry.

  • Chris

LA Huey, finally someone gets it. “Loyalty” is a one-way street in sports, nobody in Boston hated Danny Ainge for trying to trade Ray Allen

  • tomtom

NBA Great and renowned professional in PR war VS Petulant billionaire sulk. – Let’s see how that works out Cubes.

    Yet another disgruntled slave owner

  • LA Huey

Chris, to be fair, he DID get heat for trading Perk. But it’s a business.

LOL at owners – it’s business when you trade them, but it’s personal when they walk away on their own.

people that rich shouldnt be allowed to be upset

  • Jamalion

Dallas should sign Petteri Koponen. Averages 27 points/game in European championships qualifications after two games. Martin Gortat was nothing agains Finland.

  • robb

    cosign M Cho

Jason Kidd would have stayed in Dallas if Mark Cuban and the Mavs wanted him. Once contracts expire with the Mavs, former NBA players will tell you they are not exactly treated like they were when they were first being recruited by the Dallas Mavericks. Ex: Tyson Chandler – Jason Kidd did so much for the Mavs. If Cuban wants something, he gets it.

Owners should be seen not heard

Cuban got shark tanked by Jason Kidd.

YES I AM back from the dead! Glad the Knicks got Jason Kidd and it pissed off that chubby man (lol) Mark Cuban. The Knicks have now scored two off-seasons in a row on the Mavs with the additions of Tyson Chandler and Jason Kidd. I wonder who’s coming to the Knicks from the Mavs next? Perhaps Delonte West. Make it happen Glen.

@Jail Blazer – “slave owner”? I have many retorts, but would prefer you fully explain your point before going on my multi-point tirade. Once your point is explained, I may shelve my tirade(s).

  • Zabba

i woulda been more upset at Jason Terry leaving than JKidd. Kidd’s still good but compared to Terry the old man’s over the hill.

  • Riggs

    you madddd you madddd

  • Riggs

On a serious note, LA Huey perfectly sums up why Cuban should get over it.

  • pposse

looks like Jason Kidd jersey will not be retired in Dallas anytime soon.

  • Mvpitzki

Listening to the complete interview, Cubes was mad that Kidd changed his mind after he had agreed and the Mavs had already announced the deal. After a deal announcement, more jerseys and memorabilia with that player’s image. and number are ordered as that’s when some of the sales peak because fans know that player will be there for a while
