Orlando Magic Sign Kyle O’Quinn to 3-Year, $2.5 Million Deal

Former Norfolk State big man and NCAA Tournament hero Kyle O’Quinn has made his NBA dream a reality, signing a three-year contract with the Orlando Magic. The first year is fully guaranteed, with the Magic holding team options for the second and third seasons. The Orlando Sentinel has the details: “‘It’s pretty emotional,’ O’Quinn told the Orlando Sentinel on Wednesday night. ‘It’s kind of like the final stage to all the work you’ve put in. It’s another big day.’ O’Quinn, who grew up in Queens, was not recruited heavily out of high school. He attended Norfolk State, the only college that offered him a scholarship, and was named the 2011-12 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Year as a senior. The Magic were one of the 12 teams that did not work out O’Quinn prior to June’s draft. But Magic general manager Rob Hennigan and Magic assistant general manager Scott Perry already knew him well. O’Quinn had worked out for the Oklahoma City Thunder when Hennigan worked for the Thunder as an assistant general manager.”

  • drock

    @miagus23 was that suppose to be a knock against Kyle O’Quinn?

  • miagus23

    @drock yea lol

    He’s Truly Deserving of this.. Since we all know Dwight won’t be in a Orlando Uniform anymore.. Smart Move..

    I like the move if they are trying to rebuild. If they are still trying to keep Dwight then it’s too much money. I actually liked the big man tandem in the Summer League with O’Quinn and Nicholson. Those guys were crashing the boards and playing hard. I’ll take two work horses over a star who doesn’t want to be there.

  • miagus23

    its funny to belive that theres people who actually think this guy is going to be a somebody in the league lol

  • miagus23

    amazing how people believe this going is going to be a somebody in the league lol he’ll be somebody alright. Somebody on the bench

    everybody on here is either a die hard norfolk state fan (if there are any) or a magic fan looking for a quick replacement to dwight howard.. Cmon guys, havent we learned our lesson with these mediocre players coming out of these unknown universities and sitting on the bench for a couple of seasons then either go play overseas or have a career involving coming in and out of the D League.. smh

    who cares, he’s only making a little under 800K the first season, then the next 2 years are team options. He’ll be a good energy guy for the magic… if he ever see’s the court

    Nobody, even Magic fans, think this move was meant as a replacement for Dwight, who is actually still on the Magic. The Magic are giving this dude less than $1 mil a year. Just one of the 15 players on the team. Nothing more nothing less.
