Anthony Davis Says He Needs to Get Stronger

The top draft pick gained a lot from his Olympic experience over the summer, but Anthony Davis still has a very long way to go — on the court and in the weight room. Per the AP: “Although Anthony Davis has shared the court with some of the greatest basketball players in the world, he does not see himself as an NBA player quite yet. ‘I just feel like a guy who’s just playing basketball right now,’ Davis said. ‘Until I play an NBA game, then I (can’t) consider myself an NBA player.’ With training camp opening next Tuesday, Davis stopped by the Saints’ training headquarters, which is now in the process of becoming the headquarters for the Hornets under new owner Tom Benson. Davis brought his gold medal with him, and acknowledged his experience playing for the U.S. at the London Games should put him ahead of the NBA rookie curve. ‘My game developed more than what I expected just by playing the Olympics and being around them guys,’ Davis said. ‘But there’s still a lot to learn and a lot more to do so I’ve got to continue working.’ [...] Davis said one of his priorities is to bulk up in the hope he can become more effective guarding the post against physical and bigger players. ‘It’s a physical game. Very physical. I definitely got to stay in the weight room,’ he said. Davis said he has already added weight to the 220-pound build he had while winning a national title with Kentucky last spring. ‘I’m not sure how much. Just feel it,’ Davis said, cracking a playful grin. ‘Feel like I’m Superman.’”

hell yeah you should.. you skinny as a hell, bulking up a bit would really help downlow. makes me wonder how garnet held his own even without bulking up

While I understand why Anthony Davis wants to put on more pounds for the paint, I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary. Look at KG and KD. They’re skinny just like AD and they managed to get along fine. I hope he has a good nutrition where he only puts on muscles (build strength) and not just more weight that’ll slow him down. He’s too athletic for that.

That’s the case in point. It’s more about strength than weight. As long as he is strong and stay as athletic as he is, there is no need to worry about the exact pounds he puts on.

Just look at Pippen when he was in college and after a couple of years with the Bulls. AD is built much more like SP than KD as he has a very wide upper body. But more importantly, there has never been a big man who has the combo of skills…ever.

How about KG? CWebb (without the defensive ability)?

  • LakeShow

Define big man? LeBron and KD are both “bigger.”

KG Is the ideal basketball mold…KD i fear will one day suffer a crazy injury. KG i’m guessing can hold his own in the weight room too. KD can’t even bench press his weight..i dont care iif bench press is irrelevant towards bastketball skills, but that’s pathetic.

it’s certainly unfair to compare the physical requirements of KD’s position to those of a Center. Obviously, KD spends most of his time blowing by and shooting over the top of dudes. But KG? That may be the best comparison for the Brow, period. And KG is strong — in the weight room, on the court. He’s just lean, like Kobe and the p90x cat. That should be the Brow’s goal.
