Chris Paul Still Bothered By Pau Gasol Head Pat Incident

Back in January, Chris Paul was visibly upset with Pau Gasol after the Lakers big man tapped CP3 on the head at the end of a hard-fought Lakers-Clippers showdown. Paul, who is on the cover of this month’s GQ, spoke about the incident in the magazine. Here’s an excerpt: “I notice I’m a few inches taller than Paul, who is 27, and it reminds me of the time last season when CP3 lost his cool: In the waning seconds of a close game, Lakers seven-footer Pau Gasol gently patted CP3 on the head after the two had exchanged words. Paul’s ensuing freak-out led SportsCenter that night. Gasol made a tepid apology; six months later, Paul is still annoyed. ‘We call that sonnin‘,’  he explains to me. ‘Like when I take Li’l Chris to the bathroom, I’ll walk with my hand on his head. That’s my son. You know what I mean? I understand that Gasol is that tall, but don’t do to me what I do to my son.’”

well, i dont know why the guys have been hating on you. i just dont see the point. if jordan had the greatness to spare duncan on that one, then thats fine, too

  • Kevin

That dont make him soft. If anything you seem soft because you acting like it’s cool for a grown man to allow another grown man putting his hands on them. CP3 is just like a long line of folks who dont like other folks putting they hands on them, that’s disrespectful. You put your hand on my head during a game im swinging on you

  • Esmooth

people don’t understand how cp3 feels…. if you was from the hood you would understand…that is one most disrespectful things you can do to man

  • Kevin

Exactly. That’s just disrespectful to put your hands on another man. People on SlamOnline acting like punks

  • That Dude

I guess thats why so many young blacks die over nothing

  • Kevin

Being disrespectful will get you killed. I’ve seen people die for less

  • Max

    This conversation was great.

  • LakeShow

I would never just swing on a person that “touches” me.
I’d probably start with a “WTF are you doing?”
Then learn the persons intent behind the touch and then make a decision as to what my approach will be going forward.
Swinging immediately sounds pretty non-soft though so maybe i’ll opt for that.
Then again if your not worried about people perceptions you wouldn’t care if you looked soft and could maybe keep yourself from having to go to jail and also from physically harming another human being.
All depends on who you are…

  • roscoe

cp3 should just get it over with an pat Pau back.

  • riz

Cp3 get a grip, basketball drama aside check out this nas mix http://www.livemixtapes.com/mixtapes/18699/half_man_half_amazing.html

  • Kevin

You got your methods, I got mine. Im a small guy too, I know how CP3 feels. You put your hands on me, we fighting. That’s just how I was brought up though no e-thugging though lol

  • roscoe

    Let’s have an experiment:
Lakers have the best starting five in the league.

  • LakeShow

I’m a “big” guy. What does size have to do with mentality?
What a grown man (big or small) SHOULD do is say
“yo Pau, you putting your hands on my head… that’s not cool where I come from. Do it again, and we have issues.”
Then you wouldn’t have to be the guy that swings on someone for what appears to be a pretty silly reason.
Pretty sure Pau, or the person in question, would get the point.
If not, no ones going to be mad at you for swinging on someone after you told them that what they are doing pisses you off and not to do it again.
Like you said though… You got your own method, which you seem to like.

  • Rainman

he already advanced to the secodn round “at least”…

  • Rainman

    ITs Pau, not Bosh

  • http://twitter.com/chlodovech James Ludwig

who calls that sonnin’? is he trying to start a trend to justify him overreacting? like everytime someone touches my head I have say “don’t son me! you’re not my dad!”

  • AiRsMiTh

Maybe CP should realize that Pau isn’t from the hood. Cultures are different throughout the world and gestures don’t mean the same thing to everyone. I think it’s stupid that this is even still being talked about. I’m sure Pau will keep his hands to himself in the future.

  • Caboose

Only in the NBA could a 6 foot guy develop a Napoleon Complex.

  • fruizm

    are you best friends now??

  • wewqdqwd

    cp3 = overrated little bitch

    lakers > clippers

    but

sacramento > everybody who cheats to win rings

  • pposse

nate dogg said it best…”the game dont chaaaaange” the players do, the game is played the way the players want the game to be played..cp3 enjoys acting and flopping like the rest of them so i am more than in my right to call him soft, a baby whatever i want to say. Sure he plays hard, and one of the best pg’s in the game right now, but its just my opinion and my opinion on anyone who wants to take the opposing pg out to dinner and a sleep over before they play a basketball game is “soft”

  • pposse

cosign what lakeshow says…i agree its not natural to be touching another grown mans heads..but i swear i see that done all the time in the nba…and even here in DC playing pick up games in the gym cats will be pulling that nonsense…that ish is nothing to be fighting over

  • Caboose

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that Robert Horry isn’t your favorite player.

  • jeiko

common cp3 are you a real player or not? stop being so bothered by it..if your acting like this you are such a pussy..that’s why players in the 90′s are way better and physical than today..in today’s games only tapping is a big deal! LOL!..shame on you cp3!..

  • Drig

Whatever you said might apply if he still isn’t angsting about what happened about what, half an year ago?? By a guy who probably doesn’t even know the hood thing. This should not be classified as being competitive. Hell, as competitive as Kobe is, he doesn’t mind the usual pat on the head.

  • Ryan

I used to like Chris Paul a lot more than I do now. If you don’t want people to treat you like a little boy the first step is to grow up.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

You’re right. It is your opinion. Which doesn’t make it fact. You’re in the minority with that opinion though. Every player and coach who talks about CP3 talks about how tough he is. No one calls him soft. Their opinion is more valuable than anyone else’s.

  • http://twitter.com/natures1stgreen JaM

I’d like to see Paul grow up about this inident. He’s so mature about otheroff the court things

  • HoopFan

@disqus_j65FuvcSML:disqus don’t forget the return of Lamar Odom playing against his old squad.

  • pposse

just cause im in the minority does not mean i am wrong; this is mob mentality that is being preached right now, or so it sounds like. The facts are CP3 wines and dines tony parker, deron williams, and other friends of his, and then they sleep over his house before game day. This is just a microcosm of what is wrong in the NBA today. ALL of these players are soft (besides guys like D Rose who will use the most little things to fuel him ie: if the oppsing pg goes out on the town the night before they play him). You talk about the game is different, so the players adapt. PFFT, when you adapt to look like a bi** on national tv for the sake of the game..its not the game..its the players. Just type in ‘chris paul whines’ on google and page upon page shows up, and thats a FACT. 1,180,000 results show up.

  • pposse

even better, type in ‘Chris Paul Flop’ haha a ridiculous amount of pages show up, that prove his youthfulness, type in ‘Derrick Rose Flop’ and the whole first page on google are articles asking “should derrick rose flop more to get calls” – do you see the difference??

  • LakeShow

Honestly forgot about that. Good call. More drama. Put that one on TNT.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

Have you heard about CP3 still doing that with guys he’s friends with in the league? I haven’t heard it since a few seasons ago. Not recently. He’s gotten married and had 2 children since the last time I heard of that. So I’m sure he doesn’t do that anymore. Different guys have different personalities. Usually, when your opinion is different than the opinion of guys who actually know Chris, play against him and play with him…you are wrong. In this case, it seems that you are wrong unless you somehow believe that you know Chris better than people who play with and against him. Google search results mean absolutely nothing in this case. Ask NBA players and coaches about Chris Paul.

  • pposse

why should i ask other players anything? I just told you the whole league is soft..that means none of their opinions on each other mean jack sh** to me..you just conceded that inviting players over for sleep overs was pretty lame..just cause he stopped doing that doesnt mean that he is less of a lame now. I don’t need to know CP at all, im sure he is a great person he is a good role model…but players like Gary Payton, John Stockton, Zeke, would all handle CP. The problem with the league nowadays is that they forget about the mental aspect in the sport and rely too much on their physical abilities. I am almost %100 positive if i ask the coaches without cameras on they would tell me that the ballers these days are mental midgets compared to their forefathers. I would have to be someone the coaches trust tho for them to reveal that to me, they won’t dog a whole generation without some assurance i wouldnt make a public article about it..

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

They forget about the mental aspect? Is attitude not a mental aspect? Is drive not a mental aspect? Is having a killer instinct not a mental aspect? You’re just not making sense now.

  • Jazzy

This is too funny…CP3 doesn’t want to be treated like a boy but he is behaving exactly like a five year-old. LOL. Grow up man.

  • alamo

    CP3 aint gettin a championship ring ever…………..!
