Cleveland Cavaliers Sign Alonzo Gee to Three-Year, $10 Million Deal

High-flying free agent swingman Alonzo Gee will return to the Cleveland Cavaliers, signing a three-year, $10 million deal. Gee, who went undrafted out of Alabama in 2009 before rising through the D-League ranks, played a fairly large role for the Cavs last season, averaging 10.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 63 games. He also started 31 games. Via Cleveland.com: “Since his contract expired on June 30, Gee has been saying he wanted to return to the team, and the Cavs said all summer re-signing him was their No. 1 priority in free agency. ‘From the start of free agency, we made it clear that re-signing Alonzo was important to us, and we’re happy we’ve been able to do that,’ Cavs General Manager Chris Grant said. ‘Alonzo has worked very hard to make the most of the opportunities he has had thus far, and it has been great to see his development and growth as a Cavalier. We’re excited he will be part of our team as our young group of players continues to grow together.’ Gee, 25, came on strong for the Cavs after the lockout last season, when coach Byron Scott said he’d accomplished everything the Cavs had asked him to work on during the break. He was their most improved player for the most of the season before tailing off a bit at the end. He scored a career-high 22 points at New Jersey on April 8 and had a career-high 13 rebounds at Atlanta on March 21. Undrafted out of college, Gee was named the 2010 D-League Rookie of the Year and All-NBA D-League second team.”
