Dorell Wright Says Andrew Bynum is Better Than Dwight Howard

The general consensus among people who have ever watched the NBA, is that Dwight Howard is the League’s top center. Dorell Wright realizes that new teammate Andrew Bynum is his meal ticket, and quite understandably makes the claim that Bynum is the true top dog. From the Philly Inquirer: “Having faced Bynum, acquired from the Los Angeles Lakers, multiple times when he and Wright played in the Pacific Division, Wright, who spent his last two seasons with the Golden State Warriors, stated unequivocally that Bynum is the league’s best big man. ‘He’s going to need two defenders to stop him; I would say he’s the best big man in the NBA right now, hands down,’ Wright said. ‘He’s a guy that can give you baskets with his back to the basket; a guy who makes free throws at 7-feet. You’ve just got to respect him.’ At that point I interjected, asking him if he calls Bynum the best big man in the league because they are now on the same team. Or could it be because Howard is on the mend from back surgery? ‘No way, I’d say it any day. It’s because I know he can put his back to the basket and give us a basket and request a double team and make free throws,’ Wright continued. ‘It’s his all-around game. Hopefully he can stay healthy and we can ride, he can put us on his back and he can take us as far as we can go.’”

i agree. id rather have bynum on my team than dwight. his game is more well rounded and he has a number of go to post moves. whereas dwight just has the step hook shot. bynum is also young and i believe his stats will only get better and better as he matures.

  • D12

he wants to ride bynum….. very suspect

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

everyone wants to see bynum become better then dwight

  • http://twitter.com/bmoreshockt BRUCE LEROY

he is better offensively and much more aggresive but idk about blocks and rebounds i still wouldve kept bynum if i was LA steve nash is gonna unclog the offense and keep kobe’s hero shots in check look for dwight to be a pawn on O while gasol kills off the pick n roll

  • spit hot fiyah

not the first time a player promotes his teamate. nothing here

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

get this nasty talk outta here. your father, uncles and grandfathers would be ashamed of you posting this trash.

  • R32

Bynum has the potential to surpass Dwight as the NBA’s best big man, but immaturity and discipline are holding him back. D12 all day.

  • http://twitter.com/bjollz Björn Atli Davíðsson

immaturity is holding them both back equally.

  • Unknown nigga

1st off,,, can’t dwight score with his back to the basket? yes, he can even more emphatically then bynum can I might add… and when you mention dwight’s game, the conversation WON’T stop on the offensive end of things, dwight will drastically change the number of points given up per game, shots blocked & altered & when you have a presence like that behind you on the floor, it increases everyone’s defensive stats bc he’s back there to clean up. he’s won defensive player of the year 3x’s back2back2back… And head to head, he puts bynum in the basket easily… I personally guarantee, bynum’s presence didn’t change ppg given up by philly,,,, stop it please, no comparison, I don’t like dwight but he’s a 1st ballot HOF’er at his current pace & bynum is a kevin duckworth in his prime, a nobody

  • Unknown nigga

Tyson chandler win the defensive player of the year award this past season right? He STILL didn’t make 1st team allnba defense by long shot, dwight got it & I don’t like dwight (media mostly) but he is THE BEST CENTER BY A LONG SHOT,,

  • Ryan

I agree with Dorrell. And when it comes to immaturity Dwight Howard is obviously much more of a problem than Andrew Bynum.

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

    bynum don’t hold back

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003246310246 Jason Carter

Bynum is more offensively skilled with footwork and decent freethrows, D12 is more dominant in the paint, and athletically blessed, with that said I would rather have D12 on my team, because when your a slasher type of player, if you see D12 in the paint you think twice about driving in, but your (alil) less worried about bynum, not to mention he is more injury prone.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Simply put, he is saying this because they are teammates. even if he denies it. it’s obvious that Dwight is the better player.

  • zogs19994

DORELL WRIGHT IS IN NO POSITION TO BE COMPARING ELITE PLAYERS….

  • i AN LEGEND

    Oh yeah, Dorell? Okay, buddy.

  • G$

Free throws. Dwight can’t hit em. Bynum can. So who you want with the ball in his hands at the end of the game?

  • j

a lot of what you said is valid. dwight is an athletic beast. i totally recognize that. but in my opinion i think dwights athleticism is his actual flaw. that athleticism isnt going to be around forever. which is why i like bynums game better. he has far superior footwork and i believe his post game is better than dwight. even shaq, thinks bynum is the best centre in the league and its because he recognizes bynums skills are far better than dwights.

  • danpowers

i think he is more in a position to compare elite players than anyone of us

  • LakeShow

He may truly think he is, or think that FT’s make up for the difference in defense, but it doesn’t.
    Not yet, is this true.

  • Junior Taylor

This is starting to get out of hand. I know it’s the in thing to dislike Howard after all the BS he put us through but damn…..there’s no way in hell Bynum was, is or will be better than Howard. Apart from his ability to score with his back to the basketball, what else does Bynum do better than Howard? He’s not a better rebounder (offensive/defensive), not a better defender (not even close), not a better passer, doesn’t have the stamina or durability of Howard and has yet to show that he can be the man on a playoff squad like Howard has been the last 5 seasons. The tomfoolery has to stop.

  • shockexchange

Pau Gasol / Andrew Bynum at the same ____ … postin’ up, callin’ for it at the same ____ time was unstoppable. Bynum by himself, not so much.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

he doesn’t even score better with his back to the basket….

  • Tom A.

regardless of whether he really believes this or not, I’m really excited about this years philly squad, with Dorrell to give them a legit 3pt threat and Bynum attracting so much attention, not to mention more pt for Thad Young and Turner. This is going to be a fun team to watch

  • Junior Taylor

I was speaking in terms of post moves.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

come on JT, that’s a Lakeshow type argument though. Kobe has every move ever, is he a better scorer than Durant today? It’s the same concept.

  • Junior Taylor

You’re right. I never said Bynum was a better scorer because scoring comes from different ways. Off PnR, fastbreaks, dives to the rim and putbacks, Howard is significantly better than Bynum but Bynum has him beat when it comes to having a larger array of moves down low.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

you said he was a better scorer with his back to the basket though. And he’s not. He does have more moves, and better footwork, but he is not actually better at it. At least not statistically. I get what your saying I’m not tryna argue, I’m just explaining why I said what I did.

  • roscoe

@nbk: Bynum has the use of both hands as good as or better than any other big in the game & his post game is better than dh12.

Don’t take my comment as drew > dh12… but the truth is drew has the best post skills for a center in the league. Hands down.

    dh12′s P&R is better than drews and dh12 is a better re-bounder.

JT has some good points above… but imo he is missing a few variables.

  • roscoe

@Lakeshow you are already hedging for the dh12 FT criticism… lol. FT matter, just say it.

  • roscoe

    neither

  • roscoe

    but i play p/up 4 times a week…

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Better Moves & More Skills Don’t = Better Performance
    .
Dwight scores more points, more efficiently from the low post. Along with every other aspect of basketball that affects performance. He is literally better than Bynum, in terms of what he actually does (not can do) at everything but shooting free throws.

  • LakeShow

    Free Throw’s matter.
    .

    .
    Great defense matters more.

  • roscoe

I don’t necessarily disagree with your conclusion, but imo drew post game is better than dh12s.

If you want to call Lobs/put-backs post game then you are 100% correct, but imo going down to the block and delivering is different.

Guys like drew & andre miller don’t get respect bc their games aint flashy.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

From 3-9 feet, both Dwight and Bynum shoot about 5 shots a game, and make 2.2.
    .
Dwight literally scores more points per possession in the post (not counting put backs and lobs) than Bynum. He is literally a better post scorer.

  • danpowers

    lol

  • roscoe

    3 feet… lol… Sh*t. dh12 from 3 feet is _____ dunk.

  • roscoe

Who shoots FT worse from a visual standpoint, dh12 or shaq?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i mean probably if he’s by himself, but in terms of these statistics it’s not. Dunks would qualify as “at rim” in which Dwight shoots 75% and Bynum shoots 73%

  • LakeShow

    Is that a real question?….
Shaq is top 5 worse ever. It looks like he is throwing a hammer when he shoots FT’s.

  • rugged

his way of saying, nigga please pass me the rock on double teams, ass kissing 101..lol

  • BRenden

Every team Dwight has been on has been top 10 in defense including 3 times in the top 5. Howard played 6 less games and still had more rebounds, points, and blocks than Bynum. Bynum doesn’t run pick and roll well. Dwight is the best center at that. Dwight can also go down on fastbreaks and stop em as well, unlike Bynum. I’m a laker fan and bynum is an overrated offensive player. Does he have a better skill set than Dwight? Yes. But people talk about Dwight clowning but fact is he’s way more focus every game than Bynum.

  • roscoe

    @nbk you’re a stat machine!

  • roscoe

@lakeshow: That is a good description of Shaq’s FTs. Shaq reminded me of the Oakland As Logo w/ an Elephant standing on a baseball while holding a bat.
As far dh12 it just seems to be mental imo not form all of the time: Dh12 FT video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_cg08SXrQ0

  • Slick Ric

Well said……..the guy said “hands down” the best. SMH

  • R32

Dwight isn’t the one shooting 3′s against the coaches will.

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

what can i say?.. sometimes niggas be wildin!

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

    you a scrub tho bruh!

  • http://www.facebook.com/Bishop.SeanMagicJuan Sean MagicJuan

Bynum might be a tad better than Dwight on offense but Dwight is THE dominant defensive force in basketball. No way that Bynum is better.
