Hakeem Olajuwon to Work Out With Carmelo, Amar’e, Camby and Chandler

Hakeem Olajuwon is expected to put in some work with the New York Knicks’ forwards next week. According to The Dream, the Knicks’ superstar tandem of Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire can and can and should work. From ESPN: “Olajuwon, who will fly from his home in Texas, said he expects to work out with Amare Stoudemire, Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler and Marcus Camby. Olajuwon worked out with Stoudemire earlier this summer, training the Knicks center for two-and-a-half weeks in the gymnasium on his 400-acre ranch outside of Houston. Olajuwon, who was able to excel alongside superstar teammates Ralph Sampson and Clyde Drexler, said there’s no reason Stoudemire and Anthony can’t have similar success playing next to one another. ‘They both have to realize that the most important thing is not how great you are individually,’ Olajuwon said. ‘You’re remembered for how many games you win. So to get to play with another great offensive player should help you. It should make your job easier. You have to work well together. You can’t be competitors with one another.’ While Olajuwon has taught Stoudemire back-to-the-basket post moves, he said the Knicks’ game plan should not be simply to post up Stoudemire while Anthony dominates the perimeter. ‘It shouldn’t be Amare just staying in the post because he can be a scorer in the paint and outside,’ Olajuwon said. ‘It’s the same thing for Carmelo. He can score in the post and outside. So if Carmelo is in the post, Amare can be at the foul line and he can make that shot. If Amare’s in the post, Carmelo can make the shot from the free-throw line, too. They shouldn’t be competing against each other; they should be complementing each other. They need each other to win.’ But Olajuwon doesn’t think the Knicks need to be a two-man show offensively. He sees great offensive potential in Chandler, who averaged 11 points per game for the Knicks last season, three above his career average.”

sounds good. im just a bit upset by the knicks insulting offer to ewing coaching their d-league squad. wouldve been nice to see him as an assistant in woodsons staff. having that mini camp with olajuwon will work great on them but having big pat on the sideline to improve their frontcourt play on offense and defense for a whole season wouldve been even better. the knicks frontline will play scaringly well anyway. dont see too many teams out there being able to stop them if they mesh.

As T. Bogues t-shirt says: You can’t teach heart.

  • pposse

haha Hakeem making bank off these mental midgets that are now our NBA heroes. Just validating my claims that the 80/s 90s ballers were far superior than the crop out there now..

  • Sean B

I love Olajuwon he was the greatest.

  • spit hot fiyah

he is just being nice to them for what he did to the knicks in 94

  • danpowers

if this was true he would have to be our coach and mentor for the rest of his life ;)

  • Junior Taylor

This helps the Knicks on offense but what about the defensive end? I know they improved defensively last season mainly because of Shrump/TC but when it came down to getting timely defensive stops during the Playoffs, they were unable to do so.

  • danpowers

that will be alright if injuries spare the team. they can put camby out there when chandler sits. shumpert and brewer should be on board come playoff time to play some nice d. if you put kidd on guys who are not overly athletic he is a nice defender too. highly motivated melo and stat will at least put effort on d, which alltogether makes a nice defensive team. things will be fine in ny. only major injuries can stop this team.

  • Junior Taylor

“Only major injuries can stop this team” Umm…I beg to differ. There are about 8 teams that can stop this team.

  • danpowers

theoretically any team can stop any team (except the bobcats) this is the nba. but when healthy this years knicks team has the potential and will to be as good as any team out there constantly

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    no. they don’t.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

What they need? is to learn how to play a full basketball game. Offense and Defense. New York is full of one way players. And the best one way player they have, is incredibly inefficient. So inefficient in fact, he has done less to help his teams win over the years then anyone really understands. Click the Link:

  • danpowers

yes. they do. great discussion :)

  • pposse

hey do u agree with the writer of this blogspot that its not carmellos fault too, but rather the owners for paying him too much?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

just because you and your little Knicks heart want to believe that’s true, doesn’t mean it is. The Knicks are the 3rd best team in the East at best, AT BEST. “Constantly” or “Consistently” they will be something comparable to Indiana.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Definitely. Carmelo is a player, getting as much as he can is his duty as a professional. If he can find an owner stupid enough to pay him what he wants, rather than what he’s worth, good for him.
    .
Now if Carmelo went to New York with the anticipation that they would compete, and still demanded all of that money, knowing how much the team has already invested, then that’s on him. But I don’t believe Melo values winning over money. He wouldn’t have demanded to go to New York if he did.

if it was little it wouldnt have survived the 2000s, sir. i know your point of view and your arguements, we’ve had that many times now. in a couple of months we will see how good or bad they really are.

  • O

They need to learn how to play D and share the ball. Props to The Dream for taking the time out to teach the kids on the team some shakes and moves, but the only dude that REALLY needs help with his offense is Tyson. And i doubt he even wants to be a scorer. I hope this works out for the Knicks team in some way, shape or form, but if not then it is what it is. I wonder if Patrick Ewing is at all offended by this…

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i was joking about the heart thing. the point being, i don’t need to wait a couple months to know how good they are. they aren’t bad. nobody called them bad. they just aren’t a contender. and they definitely aren’t and don’t have the potential to be as good as “any team”

  • danpowers

he wouldve gotton his max deal either way. coming “back home” might have also played a roll in going to ny. but it is out of question that the knicks gave up way too much in the trade for him.

  • danpowers

i took it as a joke, all good. to say you know it is a bold statement. nobody knew before 2004 that the pistons would win it all, or the 2011 mavs, or the 94 rockets & 95 rockets. to be considered a contender a team has to make it to the conference finals imo. and this is to where the knicks will make it (if there wont be major injuries). i’ll watch the nba finals in a pink skirt if i am wrong about that.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

if he waited till the off-season, or if New York did (since he would have ended up there anyway) he would have signed under the new CBA. And would not have retained his bird rights from Denver. Thus making considerably less money, letting the Knicks keep players, and giving them more freedom under the salary cap. So no, he wasn’t getting that much money either way.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

you think the Knicks will make the conference finals? maybe if Boston is plagued by injuries. Or Brooklyn. Assuming Derrrick Rose doesn’t come back to 100%. Good luck though, i hope they live up to your expectations.

  • danpowers

even when this teams are at full strenght. i mean it sir. and no, i am neither drunk nor stupid (i guess)

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

no, when those teams are at full strength New York is not better than them. there is no logic to believing that. just fandumb.

  • danpowers

maybe not better than the heat but thats it. if they lose playoff series against any of the other teams then either because they deal with injuries or because they act totally brainf**ked. that belief might be fan dumb, but stupidity lays in the nature of being a fan of anything anyway ;)

  • Unknown nigga

Unless phil jackson works with mike woodson,, this shit is losing in the 1st round again lmao

  • Unknown nigga

Better defensively? Stop kidding yourself knicks fans… I clearly remember a game versus the celtics where you didn’t stop them at all but bc y’all couldn’t miss that game, it was over looked… Need I discuss the heat series? Put it in reverse dude

  • Unknown nigga

    Finally reason… Dayum

  • Unknown nigga

Sike yo mike… Nj has a better shot than the knicks,1 more year, stat will be traded

  • Unknown nigga

I hope you live up to your bet. you’ re no longer the best team in ny anymore.

  • danpowers

we will never find out if he wouldve signed a contract under the new cba. i doubt that too but thats all just guessing and suggestions. it is what it is and ive seen worse knick teams during the last decade.

  • danpowers

i will, take a pic n put that sh*t online as my avatar here. we will see if the knicks aint by november 1st

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Naw, we know for sure he would have signed under the new CBA. We don’t know of it would have been in New York for sure, but we know that’s where he wanted to go, and that they would have been able to do it, so we can be pretty confident that Melo was about maximizing his value. Shit if he wasn’t, he would not have demanded a trade in the middle of the season

  • GetReal

Their bench is toooooooooo old and wont be able to score. melo going to be stressing because he know he will get the blame. He will push and try so hard that his team mates will be lest to stand like statues just like last year.
