Houston Rockets Sign Scott Machado to 3-Year Deal

Point guard Scott Machado, who led the NCAA in assists last season but went undrafted in this June’s NBA Draft, will sign a three-year, partially guaranteed contract with the Houston Rockets this week. In Houston’s last three summer league games, Machado averaged 11.3 points and 7.3 assists. Via UltimateRockets.com: “Machado will join a group of players competing to be the primary backup for Jeremy Lin. In addition to Fortson, Toney Douglas and veteran Shaun Livingston will likely see time at the point in the preseason. The Rockets will sign Machado after opening a roster spot by releasing Sean Williams. Machado averaged eight points and 5.6 assists in 25.4 minutes per game in Las Vegas. ‘They know I’m a great passer,’ Machado said. ‘I feel like every day I progressed and got better just getting more comfortable and more used to the style of play and the pace of the game, the players around me.’”

Congrats to Scott Machado! I still can’t believe he went undrafted. I was hoping my Raptors would’ve taken him with one of their 2nd round picks =(.

Can’t believe the Knicks didn’t sign him, even as a good pr move

  • shockexchange

After he went undrafted, the Shock Exchange thought it was a wrap for Machado. He stuck with it though. Great story of perserverance.

I hope he gets an oppurtunity cuz he can play. Could grow into a good backup point guard.

I’m happy for him and hope he can really play teamwork basketball with all the teamates and respect other players as a rookie. Houston is very interesting. Hire 2 undrafted players so far (lin and Scott) I hope both of them can work together and become the best backcourt for Rockets. This is good for lin in case if he gets injured.

I think the Rockets will make the playoffs.

Great news! People should realize that a lot of times it is these undrafted players that come into the league and make a lot of noise. This is the best news I heard since Kevin Jones signed with the Cavaliers! The Rockets are going to use its talented youth to ascend the ranks!
